From: Trout Recreant Why do I feel completely left out because I don't have any shades. Now I have to go find some. I had no idea that I needed any. Trout almost never squints. I do have a leather jacket, though. You know what else you need to get him, Elora? You know...he's your husband and all. He needs one of THOSE...This is your chance to get him a nice one, so he isn't chasing you around with some bizarre-looking newbie rod. Trout, I have NO idea how I'm going to even bring up THAT subject.

From: Yosef Okelly ...You can get good prim hair from the vouchers in the newbie pack. And speaking of hair ... I'm trying to remember where I saw it, but I have seen an AV skin with thick, curly chest hair somewhere. Actually that reminds me! I saw an Av that would be perfect for him - it was a gay male "bear" avi. Ok, I know most of you don't "get" this and why it's perfect for him. But take my word for it - it would be the best match for his RL look. My gay friends find him to be incredibly hot, the ones that are into "bears" Good thing he isn't put off by this at all lol.

From: Elora Lunasea Trout, I have NO idea how I'm going to even bring up THAT subject. You don't have to, dear. You have the Real Thing right there, you lucky, lucky girl. While it might be a fun little variation, I'd actually recommend against it. After all, if he HAS pixel parts, it might put ideas into his little pixel head about USING them. Maybe not on you. Why put temptation in his path, is what I say. Stick to the shades and the leather (oh all right, denim) jacket.

Yea, I have a feeling that is exactly what would happen. I'm pretty sure he'd think it's rather stupid, knowing him. Not the chat aspect of it - but the poseball parts. When I showed him how my hot tub worked? He was not impressed, to say the least so I'm pretty confident for him, pixelated avi's just aren't quite going to cut it. To each their own. And, I'll be just fine with that. I'd rather spend my time exploring and hanging out with him inworld anyway if he decides to join in to any degree. I have him in RL. Don't really have any strong desire to expand that part of it to SL.

We even have a multi pose bed just for the giggles....I guess with someone you only know virtually it might take on a more serious note! For cheap fun you could always go and use the poseballs in a show room, fully clothed.

Can also be great fun, funny kind of fun, if you only know the person through SL (as opposed to serious kind of fun). Ah memories. Oh, and setting up a male avatar quickly? I have no idea. Been here a year, and still have no idea.

From: Yosef Okelly Finding a free male AO is going to be the toughest part. On the other hand, it's not quite the social necessity that it is for women. The default male walk isn't nearly as horrible as the default female walk.

From: Elora Lunasea He would need a decent skin and hair. Hair has to be "normal" NOT trendy. He isn't much into role play. Preferably, short, dark and curly - with a goatee. I found a hairstyle at the Free Dove that may suit him. It's called Zeus, and it's from *DG* Innovations. I'll drop a picture on you. (I don't know if it's available in their store or anywhere else but the Free Dove, but at least that puts it in your price range.) I'll drop a picture on you.

See? Show him that picture and he'll never suspect that there are any wacky hijinks going on at the hangout. He'll think it's some sort of retirement residence where the only excitement is the weekly Bingo game and Matlock reruns.
That picture cracks me up. Soji looks so grouchy in it!

I love that picture too. Actually - I found a pair of old people avies I'm dying to get for us if he sticks around. I've never seen anyone around with them. Can't say what it is, it's too freaking good to let on about and suits us completely. I told him about it and he was game. So, some day....who knows.

From: Nika Talaj Elora, how cool is this!!! Neat that your hubby wants to share SL with you!
And you believe its cool to have your spouse sharing sl with you? I would think sl is to get some freedom to do what you like as oppose to having to be with your mate same as rl. Many couples who come in go their own ways which I think is best. They may start out together but once they see how it really is, things change as they feel like doing things that don't require their mates to be there.

From: Trout Recreant I forgot about the AO. Yosef is right. You're never going to find a decent free male one. If you want to save money, hook him up with a copy of ZHAO II and look for the animations he really needs. Walk, sit, and a few stands at a minimum. You can probably find a few of those free, and if you have to buy them, single animations usually aren't that expensive.
Come to think of it, I've seen some pretty weird famale ones that were probably freebies. What's up with the "sexy walk" that has you listing 20 degrees to starboard as you walk? Personally, I favor the ones that make me look like I'm trying to unscrew my hips from my torso. All the subtlety of a hand grenade in a bowl of oatmeal.

From: Elora Lunasea Thanks Solomon, that would be very appreciated, especially because of the "painters jeans". My husband is an artist in is limited spare RL time away from his techie life - so he'd think that was pretty cool. You definately should get him the painter shoes from Shiny Things. I bet he likes those too, and they happen to be one of the VERY few decent freebie shoes in SL. Actually, I think they are the only truly well built and textured free mens shoes I've come across in almost 2 years of SL. Concerning hair: Diversity Hair & TamiMcCoy have vouchers for newbie residents (<30), you can choose a free hair style from their entire collection. Quality stuff, and they have a pretty decent mens collection. Gurl6 has the same offer, but they have hardly any mens stuff (hence the name, duh). You can get these vouchers at their shop, or at the Free Dove. Skin: A few skin shops have quality freebie skins for new residents (also <30). The ones at Adam n Eve are good, I personally really like the ones by Fleur (used to be TaP). They are just as nice as the full price ones, only thing is you don't have facial hair options (only clean shaven) and they have underwear on the skin. But that doesn't matter as long as he keeps his clothes on, right? They have a vendor at their shop that you can click, and it registers if you are young enough to receive the free skin pack. If you want a skin with facial hair, there's a skin that is sold or given away at a lot of shops, I think it's called Michael. It's obviously ripped from a famous skin, so not the most classy option. But I think it would really fit the Italian guy look he's going for. At least make sure you don't pay for it, so some ripper doesn't make money on it. I have it in my inventory (full perm), send me an IM if you want it, I can drop it on your (or your husbands) profile. Also get him the Jack in a Box by the Linden Lifestyles team. You can get it at their headquarters, also at a lot of freebie places. It's a pretty complete package with skin, shape, eyes, hair, clothes and a Male Walk Overrider. Most of the stuff in there is not that special, but it's worth it for the AO alone. Like others mentioned before, getting free animations for men isn't easy, and this is a start.

I don't think an ao is going to be that hard to do with no cost. My ao is free and I hand made it - using a freebie script and freebie walks/stands etc. I think if you can find some male freebie walks and stands, you can sort it no problem. http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2007/07/day-307-animation-override-ao-tutorial.htmlI used this as my guide, there are some links to other parts of her blog with details on AOs. She also has some freebie animations under the freebies section in her store. Im sure there are some male ones in there. Might be worth checking out to see.... does this mean I will have a use for all my random men's freebies I seem to have collected? Does he have an insane need for leather gothic buckled all-in-one suit? Or how about an afro system hair? I also have a rather worryingly large collection of men's boxer shorts.....hmm maybe not Why dont I just delete this stuff? ooo, and if you get some old avvies, we can officially start OAP wars...the hangout will become a home for the elderly and insane lol.

Elora - Calla have a free Jack in the Box kit, at the reception near the entrance. Don't know what's in it but might give you something to start with.
Trout - I have some shades that would be perfect for you, I will send you a set later.

Yep - that one couldn't be any less sexy. It looks like you have some sort of deformity. Can avatars get hip dysplasia? Other than dog avatars, of course? "All the sublety of a hand grenade in a bowl of oatmeal" is going on my list of all time favorite quotes. I don't know exactly what it means, but I love it!
