RA is in sore need of fresh blood - and some good old fashion "Why is there a box on my head" questions. Please help those addicted to helping and giving advice. If you've ever felt too shy to post, now is your chance to jump in. While I can not guaranty all the answers will be to your liking, I _can_ tell you that it pleases many here when they are able to help.

Sometimes, the solution to your problem will only come out on the 10th post, but rest assured, while some answers might not help you with your particular query, they may help others. And after all, most posters are just trying to help.

The rare rude posts that you may get are only a reflection of the said poster and not of the people here in general. As for off topic humour, they usually appear once the question has been answered - feel free to humour them right back (or not).

So, if your not sure about how to start a thread, feel free to use this one. :)

Prerequisite questions:
Are you an old lurker? or a new poster? Are you intimidated when it comes to RA?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Does anyone else keep the box item as well as the item itself in their inventory?
I've accidently (even to this day) worn the box for an item, compared to the item itself...always good for a laugh, especially when attempting a smooth transition form one item to another...

So, for what it's worth...not only newbies end up wearing boxes...

To all the lurkers:

I will back what Isabeau said 100%. We've seen a decrease in the number of people posting questions and it's probably because this forum has started to look like just a goofy forum rather than Resident Answers.

Don't worry, though, there are still plenty of people who are here to answer your questions and help you through many problems.

Sure, your thread is likely to end up getting silly and you'll see lots of posts about pie and such but we'll make sure we get your questions answered.

It's also true that you'll get some rude responses from time to time, but they can't really hurt you since you're anonymous. Knowing it's not personal then, there's no reason for you to hesitate asking your questions.

BRING THEM ON!!!!

Yes, but I have a folder called "Purchases" where I keep the boxes, so it has yet to happen (for that reason I mean).

Not many new posters here, lol. Either they don't really exist, or they have nothing to say at the moment.

Joseph, I also keep the boxed copies, but I now immediately shove them in my 'copy' folder. Stupid how most of them have the same name as the folder - still not disciplined enough to rename and add 'boxed' to the copy.

I have a box on my head that's got this sorta blue and sometimes read stream of clouds coming out of it when i move and trees and the door to my favo club now has this red haze over it but i can see other people move through it and they have blue clouds too and does this mean i'm bannzed?

Also, how can i make Lindens? Do I need to be in an adult room and already have a breeding pair?

edit: ah.. friday at 5.. sorry.. bring teh newbies! always happy to help, if they've got real questions.

I have to say I have posted about 8 questions (with really easy solutions!) on here and always have gotten good advice that was right to the point. I don't post because #1 I haven't been on here long enough to offer any help to a person in need and #2 I feel that everyone does know each other really well and it's kind of like I know my answer or opinion would not be good enough here (I know... my reasoning skills are off) and I don't feel like feeling unwelcome. I kind of see this board with this in mind: I have been trying to meet new people lately and have been going to clubs and live events etc. (It seems my timing is always off and there are always about 5 or 6 people there that all are members of the club or managers or something) so when I get there- there is this group of people who are generally familiar with the others. I feel more comfortable in the places where people say hi, or acknowledge me than the ones where everyone goes on with their dancing or talking and doesn't pay any attention to me. I guess I have a need to fit in, and like the safe and comfortable places. And on here I see a group of people who know each other really well (or so it seems) and I do want to be acknowledged and respected, but I am afraid if I did have a strong opinion on something- people would base their first impressions of me upon that, and I would be overlooked and not welcome into the "group". I know it sounds weird and is hard to explain- but I gave it my best shot. But.... like I said- all my questions were answered quickly, and I also posed a question with my alt that could have made people jump all over me (I didn't want to go with this one) and they were really nice and understanding of my question.

So yes I do lurk, and I am not intimidated to ask a question (only once was I), but I am intimidated by the closeness/familiarity that everyone has. I know this always happens in forums, how could it not when you have people posting everyday, so instead I sit back, lurk and watch the show from afar.

Oh - but you know what? If there was an introduction thread here I would definitely post on it to say hi and say a little bit about myself. I feel that this would let everyone know me a little bit, and they wouldn't be so quick to judge me based on my opinions that I had voiced. And I know for a fact that I would feel more comfortable posting here- but this is resident answers and I don't want to stray from the main idea.

But guess what? A thread has been started all ready- So hi! I have been on SL about 2 months now and I am having a great time. In RL (I don't mind sharing a little) I am a speech pathologist and I work primarily with preschoolers with disabilities. There is so much more about SL I would like to get into, like building, buying land, and other many things people can do here. I am always impressed with the knowledge that many people here have about computers/building/ and other SL topics. This board has been helpful to me with my questions and I appreciated it. (and if anyone ever has a speech/language question they want answered- just message me- I like to help too!)
Bye!

I'd agree with this. I'm a lurker, I only occassionally post to ask noob questions (which I have to say are always answered quickly - thanks for that everyone!).
I think most internet forums have cliques of regular posters, which is natural I guess. Sometimes it's just a little hard to break in! The same goes for the forum cartel hangout place..

Monjo, I think most people respond mainly to the content of the post rather than the poster (with a few obvious exceptions). I know I do. And I think people who seem to "know" each other here do so only because they post a lot. Actually, we're all, or nearly all, total strangers to one another except for here and at the Forum Cartel Hangout, where believe me, EVERYONE is welcome. Post, and post constructively, and you too will find you are regarded as a "regular" and accused of being part of the "clique."

edit: Scarlett, too!

Thanx for posting, Monjolichat (is your cat named Spyke by any chance?)

I was beginning to think lurkers were an Urban Legend or something. Before coming here, I had never been on a forum. I knew nothing about anything - SL, computers, forums, bad hair, etc. I still feel very new to all this...

As for inworld, I found a few places and groups I thought I would enjoy and kept going back. Figured they would notice me eventually... and they did. I finally chose out of those the ones I really liked, and dropped some that weren't for me. I didn't say much in the beginning, but slowly found my voice.

I remember the 1st time I went to the place which can't be named *cough* Forum Cartel *cough* and being quiet. The next day, I think it was James who pointed out that he was quiet because he thought I was a regular... Goes to show, we're all new at some point. :)

I hope you'll come by the Forum Cartel club house some time. People always say hi to me and say hi to everyone who shows up. It is a very friendly and safe place for new folks and regulars alike.

I've ended up wearing my sky box.

It's very easily done - a slip of the mouse when dragging an object out of inventory and just dragging it onto your avatar.

The skill come in picking a really good time and place to indulge in this sort of accident.

Hey there nice thread to offer ppl.
I am also newbie but I just jump right in somewhere I feel like w/o second guessing myself or what other ppl who know each other here will say. I have not had one bad experience here from it. Thank goodness I cant stand rude forums I would just walk away to be honest. I also have just showed up at the "hang out" in world too.
a large part of being uncomfortable is really on the person posting in most cases, thats just imo. No disrespect to anyone else intended. Just my 2 cents worth.

I just can't think of anything to say for thread replies usually. Besides, most of my questions have been asked and I usually find the answers through the search option.

But.. I figure maybe if I make one post, maybe I won't be so chicken to post later :)

Hello everyone, my name is Adana Ember, and I'm a LURKER. :D

It isn't that I'm shy or anything, it's just that sometimes I get so caught up in reading everything that I forget or run out of time time to post. Also, with a little effort at searching I find that most of my questions have already been answered miriads of times. ;)

I really must get over to the Cartel and meet a few people ... so much to do, so little time ... :)
