But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Really it makes no difference be it Gor or otherwise. In SL Goreans use it more commonly..well..probably because someone started doing it and it just caught on.

But in either Gor or 'Vanilla' BDSM Lifestyles, it has the same significance ^_^

So had to bounce in here .. as far as Gor it is because the novels are written that way- the idea being kajirae need to be indoctrinated to give up all concept of "Self"- In the novels the majority of the girls speak in third person although there really is a bit of lack of consistency. Mr. Norman truly is not the world's best author ;)

Personally, it annoys the hell out of me and the only time I will deal with it is on Gorean boards and that is only because that is the accepted form- when in Gor do as the Goreans :). Not hanging about in SL Gor I don't really get impacted by it- when on one on one conversations with kajirae- out side of a Gorean forum of course, I prefer regular speech, regular capitalization and use names - none of the "Mistress, girl" what have you.

Love the wispiness of the clouds; heh, in a weird way, it reminds me of "Night on Bald Mountain" in "Fantasia"...

You should read Heinlein's Farnham's Freehold, he has the third person self-deprecating(sp) speech down to an art form.

Ani't that the truth!

Every one of Norman's characters from every 'culture' on gor all have the same speech patterns. They also hve the irratating habit for starting more sentances with "too" than Canadians end with "eh". Thankfully there are no Canadians on gor. Too, there are few non-Americans, eh.

I'm reading Witness of Gor now, beside the one I said earlier; his style has not changed. Then again, we don't really read him for his prose style. If that were the case there wouldn't be many Goreans. I remember when I read Tarnsman ages ago and kept thinking- damn if that doesn't remind me of something...
