My friends that own these weapons, keep them in a safe. They also have a gun safe in the vehicle when they go to the range for firing.

Again the movies and media would have you believe gang-bangers all carry full auto UZIs and Mac-10s.. Both weapons were available in semi auto, and some one with a good file can make them full auto. Of course since they were disigned as semi auto making them run on full will cause jams and miss fires. The guns become unusable because of the damage the occurs.

Kids see a movie or play doom thinking yea... full auto spray bullets everywhere. If you pick up a .22 semi-auto pistol and fire a clip of bullets out of it, your ears wiil ring for 20 min. Firing a full auto SUZI, Mac-10 or similar weapon you better had hearing protection you won't be able to hear your own voice for an hour or more.

The other issue is that spraying bullets everywhere is a completely inefficient way to do anything at all except maybe terrorize a neighborhood. You might get very lucky and kill someone, but fully automatic guns are almost impossible to control. When I shot competitively, I used a .45, which is semi-automatic, of course, so it only fires one bullet per trigger pull, and even with that, after firing the first round, getting the gun back on target for the second took a LOT of practice and training. I spent hours and hours and thousands of practice rounds before I was able to get two accurate shots off in rapid succession.

I haven't shot competitively in 15 years, so I suspect I'd have to start from scratch.

And it is way too uncool to walk around the hood wearing your ear protection headset.

Yeah I've heard that the type of illegal gun owners who don't take gun safety courses or practice at the firing range often have problems when they fire the weapons and when they get hit themselves they are surprised at how much it hurts. The people who make and sell guns legally can't seem to keep them out of the hands of criminals though...

I still think my initial suggestion of using a cactus is more effective. Everyone's afraid of cacti spikes...
