You can own a machine gun (full auto) in the USA. There is a gazillon miles of paper work but yes you can do it. You must have a spotless police record and demostrate that you are a legitmate gun dealer or collector. A friend of mine has a full auto M-16 assault rifle.

The news media would have you believe two 9mm hand guns is an arsenal of automatic weapons. When in fact, the guns are semi-auto, you have to pull the trigger for each shot to fire. The guns were likely stolen from legitimate gun owners or illegally obtained.

But think about this for minute. More people have been killed in a certain Mass. Senator's car than have been killed by legally registered and privately owned fully automatic weapons. The police and military are a different matter.

And my rifles are semi-automatic - I actually did not know that anyone could get a fully automatic in the US. Hell they are working hard to outlaw the semi-automatic ones.

I would have guessed it might be more than that. I'll try to calm down. I'm still a bit worried about all the legally manufactured but somehow illegally owned weapons out there. I used to work with gang neighborhood kids who loved talking about "Uzies" etc. It just didn't seem like a good mind set.

How about a battery operated spaghetti twirler? Fits easily in your purse, and when you take it out and turn it on, the element of surprise gives you just enough time to stick in his chest hair and run away.

I personally know of four people tha own legally own fully automatic weapons. I actually fired two of them. One was an M-16 and the other was an M60.

I don't care how many wieghts you lift.. You are not going to hold an M-60 in one hand and hold the belt with the other and fire from the hip unless you are Garrett or Lindal.

True - but they aren't easy to get, which is why I said "readily" available. There's paperwork to go through to get any gun if you buy it legitimately, but the paperwork for a machine gun is impressive. maybe it's a test. If you are able to mainatin your sanity through all the grief you have to endure to get the gun, then you are stable enough to own it. Maybe?

I like Isabeau's idea of the automatic spaghetti fork self defense weapon. I'm going to go design one with a mace cartridge built into it. Spray, stab, run. The perfect solution to self defense. Just be careful when you're using it to eat spaghetti. Push the wrong button and you could ruin your dinner.
