Hey, has anyone ever read Joan Aiken's Wolves Chronicles? The first one is "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" and the second is "Black Hearts in Battersea" - there is a bunch of them, but anyway -

One of my older sisters was mad about them, so I always avoided them. But a couple days ago I picked up Six's copy of the first book and loved it. Now I have to read them all, like the Harry Potter books.

I always thought they had the coolest titles.

OOOOHHHH!!!!

Joan Aiken is WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!!!!

Kim Harrison's "The Hollows" series is pretty good as well. Vampires, werewolves, witches, demons and fairies. All trying to coexist with normal humans in modern times. Some mild sex and violence.

Gabriele aside (for I know why she's hot), I wonder why vampires are such a hot commodity right now...books...movies...tv.

Me - I'm a huge fan. Books, movies and tv series. I'm just wondering about the fascination. :)

Ruth really let herself go after Linden Lab retired her in favor of "puffy cloud."

Here you go Mo.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/series/92738/ref=pd_serl_books?ie=UTF8&edition=hardcover

That will give you the titles, most are out in paperback now.

Mari, I rarely, if ever, use LOL to convey anything online because I don't make a habit of cackling at my monitor screen, but this time your comment made me laugh. Good one :)

Of course, the thought of "cackling at a monitor screen" actually elicited a laugh as well. What can I say, I'm easily amused. ;)

In case anyone missed the ride earlier there is still room on the backup bus.

Lindal's bus looks a bit quicker, so it may take us a while to catch up.
Where were we going?

Hey, is there a Walmart in SL?

I'm not sure about a Wally-World, but I ran across a Dollar General in my SL travels.

Some possibilities:

- that powerful, hypnotic attraction they have. Very sexy, especially for anyone who even fantasizes about D/s. ("I just couldn't help myself...";)

- they're sharp dressers, too.

- and suavely charming, even if they aren't mesmerizing you.

- they are (in a limited sense) immortal. In an aging society, the promise of eternal youth is powerfully attractive.

What I object to in the recent glut of vampires in popular literature is that they're so watered down. The "Twilight" series is a glaring example. The vampire protagonist is nothing more than a romantic, attractive hunk. Vampires are evil undead, in addition to their charm, and should (IMO) be portrayed as such. Their existence is wound about with limitations; it's not all high fashion and dancing at exotic nightclubs. Vampires are easily destroyed, by sunlight or by staking. They are vulnerable during the day, and must always fear their coffins/beds being found. In some legends, they are limited in their ability to travel, especially over water. And of course, they are all serial murderers, sustaining their existence by terrorizing and killing others.

I like Barbara Hambly's portrayal of them in "Those Who Hunt The Night" and "Traveling With the Dead". Her vampire Don Ysidro is both a believable vampire and a sympathetic character.
