From: HoneyBear Lilliehook Not a problem sweety. Let's take a look at it tonight when I get home, and figure out where we can put you. I have a few empty skyboxes, I can just either put you in one of those or let you have a lot to put up your own. Awesome, thank you. I don't know why it unnerves me so to see people standing there. Maybe playing WOW too much and I think they are going to attack me lol.

I admit that moving back to Cherry from Parkville Isle has been a little weird for me too. Not used to people being on my Mysti...but I can handle it, after all, I see them all the time anyway when I'm dealing with the tenants and the mall. IM me tonight hon, we'll get you fixed up. If you want, we can simply take your entire house and move it up to 1000m. I don't care if there's a house there or not, and Keith would love to have the yard room.

From: Jerboa Haystack Hmm...Lex...being able to start in Safe Mode is a good sign. At least you can get in.
I didn't catch it, are you using Vista or XP?
It would help to know the exact error messages you get when trying to start up on Normal Mode though.
This just started after shutting down and restarting your computer? No other changes have been made? It is an XP. The error message is something like "cannot read page. NO PAGE" or something like that. I'm at work, so I can't look. Of course I don't want to look, I want it to work. heh. This is new, the not being able to get into normal mode. Before the computer would over heat and crash. Then I'd get that other error message that I can't recall now. Something about hardware installed incorrectly (though I didn't install anything other than that fan). The fan uses power from the computer. I think the SL and fan hastened the collapse of my computer. Of course without the fan, it was overheating. Had a huricane fan on it before and after the mini-fan/cooling pad experiment. (need to read thread before answering, heh; so otherwise "Mistress is correct"

Yeah actually there were suppose to be metal studs, tried to blend the mistakes but the sides have this metallic distortion to the boots. Also the collar looks too doodled and I need to make better vest. Jacket's collar and coloring looks off to me to me even when tinted.

Lexxi, My gut feeling is you are loosing / have lost the hard drive. A replacement from Dell (blank with nothing on it) is going to cost 90 to 120 dollars or somewhere in there. Dell usually put the system restore disks on a hidden partition of the hard drive. Since that is also the root of the problem, you will need to get a set of CD's from Dell. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/product_support_central?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=btClick the middle button and enter the service tag number. You can find the number on the bottom of your laptop on a thin white sticker. From there you can download any patches (fat lot of good that will do now) or order the CD's and/or hard drive. However, I do not feel good about asking you to spend 100 bucks or more on something that might not be the problem. If you take it in to someone for service, they can verfiy the problem and do the work for you including putting on windows and loading the newest and correct drivers for you. Maybe an hour and a half time spent. $150 for tech and labor, $120 for parts and media from Dell. So, it will probably cost $300 to get your laptop back in working order. If you laptop is 3 years old or older, I would not reccomend it unless you just can not afford to replace it. I wish I had better news.

Even with edit rights it is impossible to send someone else's stuff up like that. Believe me I tried many times with my alt's stuff.(selecting everything to move up) I don't mind redecorating again. That's actually my favorite part of SL.

I also have a concern about the laptop in general. It overheats when running SL, and has overheated many many times in the past months. I fear putting money into something which will continue to overheat and crash, and presumably eventually pack up for good. But then again, it might still last a long time. Who knows?

You do realize that everytime you post one of these things I have to stop everything and play with it? From: Rioko Bamaisin Okay living on the ground in SL is a little too close for comfort for me. Every time I log in ,there are people out in front of my house just standing there. I don't like people. Well, random people..... Honey, I think I need to go back in the sky where I can be a hermit. People scare me. Signed your pain in the ass anxeity ridden tenant I wouldn't like that at all! It's creepy. It's been months since anyone has been within 2 sims of me when I'm at home. I'm guessing you are getting the message abou a page fault in file whatever.sys
You saying something about a "page" message plus being about to boot in safe mode sounds right. Normally this is a corrupted system file. You could try hitting F8 as soon as the you see windows trying to start and choose the "Last Known Good" option. ... Don't hold your breath tho, but you might as well give it a shot. Typically if it were just this I would re-install Windows.
What worries me is the "incorrectly installed hardware" message. That almost always means a hardware failure.
Hey ... try this: Let's see if reseating the hard drinve helps anything. First, unplug the computer and remove the battery. On the bottom of the laptop, look at the screws. There should be a pair (maybe just one) that has a little cylinder symbol next to it. Take those out. They hold the hard drive in place, but I have seen them wiggle a little before. The hard drive will be on the side right where you removed the screws and will most likely have little ridges so you can get a good finger grip on it. Wiggle and pull till it comes out, then slide it back in. Give it a solid rap with the heel of your palme to snap it in place. Replace the battery, power it up and see what happens.
If that does work, start budgeting for a new computer anyway. Leave the screws out in the mean time because you will be doing the reseating thing from time to time untill it dies all together.

/huggles Kaimi, I thought you were creative type. Well for me personally being creative is often one of the few things that says don't sleep your life away, create something but I even go through periods or cycles where I am just not motivated, inspired or easily annoyed with the entire creating process. Two biggest and most annoying thing about creating for me especially in SL/RL is when I can't figure out how to do something that I want to create or draw, trying to sell things I make with all the noisy grumpy mind chatter inside my brain pixels. I don't know I am sort of unenthusiastic about dealing with SL Business, the whole vendors and setting up displays. I keep planning on putting up paintings, and other things I have made up for months but I keep hitting the grumpy elf wall that just rather doodle and take lots of naps. I decided to just create because I want to and if I want to do the vendors, etc I will deal with it when I am inspired again.

Overheating is a symptom of my other worry for just buying a hard drive without someone checking it. It may well be the system board. The drive controller portion in perticular but it might as well be a dead CPU if the system board is bad.

Yeah...what Yosef said.
Reseating everything might do the trick, for the time being. If the overheating has been bad enough long enough, it could cause a connection to not be firm anymore.
But with bad overheating, the laptop's time is already numbered. Budgeting for something new should be done.

If I can figure out how to get one that will work for less than a $1000. Not sure I can find a laptop that works for less than $1000. With a large enough screen and with XP instead of Vista. The one I found is 1008. Dell. Gateway seems out, can't figure out how to "build" there, and the settings wthat would work are something like $1200. Trying to go the online route as I can probably "build" something and get it, while going to a store with specs will get confusing and discouraging.

Yes, that is what the message looks like. Page fault in .sys. Though I recall something about "nopage" in there somewhere also. I tried the "Last Known Good" option last night and it died on me again. I could try the harddrive, screws thing. Think the screws melted though. heh. I'm bad with machines, I guess. Guess I'm off SL for a while then. I can't find anything that will work for a price I can pay now, and still pay bills. I might be off to January, then. (well, unless I can figure out someway to get money out of those Lindens. Doesn't it take forever and a day to get them to get the money to you?) From: Yosef Okelly I'm guessing you are getting the message abou a page fault in file whatever.sys

I feel this thread is missing an excerpt from a Stephen King book. So here is one.
On a very hot day in August of 1994, my wife told me she was going down to the Derry Rite Aid to pick up a refill on her sinus medicine prescription -- this is stuff you can buy over the counter these days, I believe. I'd finished my writing for the day and offered to pick it up for her. She said thanks, but she wanted to get a piece of fish at the supermarket next door anyway; two birds with one stone and all of that. She blew a kiss at me off the palm of her hand and went out. The next time I saw her, she was on TV. That's how you identify the dead here in Derry -- no walking down a subterranean corridor with green tiles on the walls and long fluorescent bars overhead, no naked body rolling out of a chilly drawer on casters; you just go into an office marked PRIVATE and look at a TV screen and say yep or nope.
The Rite Aid and the Shopwell are less than a mile from our house, in a little neighborhood strip mall which also supports a video store, a used-book store named Spread It Around (they do a very brisk business in my old paperbacks), a Radio Shack, and a Fast Foto. It's on Up-Mile Hill, at the intersection of Witcham and Jackson.
She parked in front of Blockbuster Video, went into the drugstore, and did business with Mr. Joe Wyzer, who was the druggist in those days; he has since moved on to the Rite Aid in Bangor. At the checkout she picked up one of those little chocolates with marshmallow inside, this one in the shape of a mouse. I found it later, in her purse. I unwrapped it and ate it myself, sitting at the kitchen table with the contents of her red handbag spread out in front of me, and it was like taking Communion. When it was gone except for the taste of chocolate on my tongue and in my throat, I burst into tears. I sat there in the litter of her Kleenex and makeup and keys and half-finished rolls of Certs and cried with my hands over my eyes, the way a kid cries.
The sinus inhaler was in a Rite Aid bag. It had cost twelve dollars and eighteen cents. There was something else in the bag, too -- an item which had cost twenty-two-fifty. I looked at this other item for a long time, seeing it but not understanding it. I was surprised, maybe even stunned, but the idea that Johanna Arlen Noonan might have been leading another life, one I knew nothing about, never crossed my mind. Not then.

Anyway my point is (pretty sure I have one somewhere in here...oh yeah...)Your art always seems to resonate with something that pleasantly stimulates my own desire to create. Yes it good to have creative friends to inspire and give you ideas in how to improve. I never did clothes in The Sims, I did paintings, floor and wall textures, sometime furniture recolors. It was much easier in many ways to recolor already established objects then to make originals like in SL. Vrml objects in Cybertown I briefly tried, it was a nightmare. I am just not very good with 3d objects, animations and more complex stuff but I recently wanted to figure out how to do Christmas Doodle Toy Soldiers and Ballerina but I got no clue how to pull of 3d illusion on flat prims that move in circles like musical boxes, I got idea but not exactly inspired to paint the Christmas Doodle Toy Soldiers and Ballerina. Issue is the how to figure out get animations, and everything right I got no clue how to do it, I try but often even my best ideas fail, often more complex things I need help from friends. Also hitting a wall with this texture changing Doodle house I am just not inspired to do the room textures even though friend helped me program a Decor system but it still a ways off to be FD user friendly. My textures are too Doodlistic for most people to want to use. And even the items that have taken me months to make rarely sell, and I just don't have desire to promote or stress myself out over few linden dollars. People will steal if they can but I don't think my stuff is going to be profitable enough to anyone steal in first place.
