Congo? Really cool book by Michael Crichton about gorillas that are a tad more intelligent than expected... the movie was wonderfully campy- sadly, it wasn't meant to be.

It's from a book by Michael Crichton. Let's just say it was no Jurassic Park.

The first movie I remember seeing (in a theatre) was King Kong. My brother took his little sister to the Community Movie House (?) - don't know the English word, but where old movies are shown for a second run. It was the 1976 version with Jessica Lange. I had never cried so much as when I saw that Kong die on a giant screen. I have a soft spot for apes. I'll rent Congo tonight.

Kong dies at the end?!!! Thanks a lot.

But seriously, Congo is not for ape lovers, movie lovers or any sentient beings.

Which reminds me of a story -- and if this thread is not the place to post way off the track weirdness than I don't know where else would be better -- when I was on a quest fot the perfect Teramisu recipe. I tried several from the internet which yielded some thinngs which were only teramisu in a theoretical sense. I even found a few good ones on Itialian web sites . I don't speak or read Itialian, BTW, but after you have read the basic recipe a few dozen times, you can easily pick up what it says. I took the bits and pieces and adjusted to what I like. I had made at least 50 pans of teramisu by the time I had what I wanted. My friends who were coming by all the time just because I would meet them at the door saying "here, try this" quit coming over because I would meet them at the door saying "here, try this." Except for one, who can eat tersmisu all day every day (Love you, Boo).

Feeling very proud of my self, I jotted down my final recipe and made one more pan.

IIt was at this time i noticed on the back of the package of lady fingers I was useing was yet another recipe for tersmisu. So I read it, feeling smug, and wondered how far off these cookie makers could be from a real teramisu.

The bastards had my recipe. Almost exactly. Two months of cooking and all I had to do was read the directions printed on the package. :o

Which is why I use the recipe for pie crust that's on the back of the Crisco can. :)

It can't possibly be as bad as "10,000 BC." I still maintain that to be the worst movie of all time. EVAR.

Kong dies at the end??

Did you catch my review of 10,000 BC? I posted it here, and I agree with your assesment completely. I have never, in my life, been as appalled as I was by 10,000 BC. It wasn't just a terrible, uninspired piece of crap. It was soooo much worse than that. I was literally speechless for a couple hours after that. It was a 2 hour long rickroll.

Now it's at the point where I can shake my head and laugh a little, but I still hav a hard time coming up with words for how truly awful that movie was, and I have a degree in professional writing and work with words for a living!

On the plus side, I heartily recommend Leatherheads. It's the new George Clooney movie where he plays an old-time football player in a financially troubled league. It's not quite Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, but it has a similar feel and it's still very good.

Could you post the recipe here please?

I thought Congo was one of Michael Chrichton's more entertaining books. I didn't see the movie.

Last movie I saw was "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day". Sweet movie. Nice art direction, Francis McDormand, and CiarĂ¡n Hinds (love him).

"Signs". A movie so bad I went into a tirade that lasted a week. I will never see another M. Night film.

Although no laugh riot, Clooney's Michael Clayton was my favorite movie of 2007.

The Village was what did it for me. Seriously. WTF. Does he think everyone who goes to his movies has some sort of severe mental disability? He can't possibly think that we're falling for the tortured artist bit he puts on to hide the fact that his movies are just incompetent garbage. The only thing that was even remotely good about that movie was the part where I opened the bottle of Diet Coke that I snuck in and the inside of the cap informed me I had won another bottle for free. The Junior Mints were ok. Popcorn a little stale. Everything else sucked balls.

I agree with you on Michael Clayton. Excellent movie. George Clooney rarely, if ever, turns out a dog. I can't think of a movie off hand that he's been in that I thought was awful.

I disagree. White tea is the up and coming challenger to the trendy and overrated green tea. I find it to be delicate, yet well balanced with a surprisingly fresh sense of humor.

lol - I like how this bit shapes up. Let's do a Siskel/Ebert thing and just randomly review things that people post.

Ocean's 12.

Oh and congrats on the free Diet Coke!!!!

It was delicious. Every bit as good as the one I paid for, yet the heady sense of victory and feeling that I surreptitiously got one over on "The Man" by not having to pay for it made it all the sweeter.

Ocean's 12 wasn't his best work, but it wasn't too bad. It certainly wasn't in the same catagory of awfulness as some of the movies we've listed in this thread. Maybe my degenerate gambler background makes me biased towards movies involving casinos. I haven't seen 21 yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.
