Im such a little rebel that I will say I want less stability... no but seriously I never found the occasional log off or crash to be really that bad. If I was the developer of SL and people think stability is the biggest issue id pat myself on the back and break out the champagne.
My biggest wish might seem quite trivial but im hoping for the day you can attach more then one thing to a specific attachment point. |

How about a big bonfire in a nice woodsy setting, by a lake. There would be no 'structures' so less prims. Pass out marshmallows on a stick and tell stories (spooky or not). Maybe meet 2 or 3 times a week at specific times and days to cater to different time zones. Prepare one 'story' (in the beginning, you'll probably be the only one) and ask someone to volunteer for the following week. Afterwards, let the conversations be more general. Ask people to talk a little about themselves, what they've enjoyed doing so far in SL, best places they've visited, etc. Maybe a few of those 3000 who are wandering aimlessly would drop by on other days, or just make new friends, make your place the 'meeting' place. Just a thought... Golly, I'm trying to remember.... Wanda?? is on a sim for wheelies, maybe the sim is called wheelies? I so can't remember.. but they have ghost stories around a camp fire... there's an LM near the dancefloor that points to the ghost stories which are held every few days. I keep meaning to go, but it would be so fun! [Edit: Agreed with Jig: Mountains! Less gorgeous frickin ocean view stuff. Some of us grew up in the desert, ya know? Let's see some different terrains and geologies.] _____________________

Lower sim prices. I'm talking $30 per month at the most. Even if it means removing the jittery physics engine and having "economy sims" that just have basic avatar physics.
Linden Lab overestimated the need for a physics engine and this is why Second Life is what it is today. Lower sim prices would mean more space and better FPS and network performance for everybody. At the moment you go to a store that's in a sim shared by many people and your client is having to download and draw the entire neighborhood around the store. LAG!! Sharing sims is a terrible idea because we're at the mercy of our neighbors in many ways. |

If you want parks and recreational areas, check my profile web tab in-world for the Guyler website. The sim Mystery is just one among many that is deserving of a serious wander round and yes, Romantic places too many to list. A personal favourite being Astoria at del a mer. I think the sim is Manan or similar.
Check out the list in /327/1c/229319/1.html _____________________

General: again, stability - but LL is only 1/3 of the problem here - internet providers and resident's own computers can cause much of the instability.
Graphics: Shadows. That is the single greatest visual improvement SL is crying out for. |

- More romantic spots. Partnering seems to be more popular than it was a few months ago. But unless you have a house or a private beach, where do you take your special someone? ![]() _____________________

The sim Amore, a very nice place. you mean Cin Cin on the Isle of ....????? I used to practically live there! Yes, if that's the one you mean, nice place, lots of romantic spots, fun activities, plus a friendly crowd on the main beach. Made a whole lot of friends there a long while ago, they're still my friends today ![]() _____________________

Resident-run open areas are great for new accounts to be directed to. It would be nice to develop a way that these avatars can set home in places designated as PARKS without joining groups or being on the owner's friend's list. _____________________

Cafe kinda.. seems silly to me lol.. sit and sip an espresso and talk.. when we dont really drink.. clubs without campers would be nice, and clubs that are less rave-like are nice too ^_^ But a cafe seems silly to me lol Sorry, I'm late to this discussion and this may have been addressed later in the thread, but - how is a cafe more or less silly than a club? Cafes don't have to be your thing but I'd like to understand the distinction you're making. |

More imagination. Too many builds look like all the other builds. (I'm not being holier than thou, I have a hard time thinking of something new and unique too). The builds that really ARE unique stand out like beacons.
More open water, open roads, open skies. Vehicle travel in SL is fun...and it could be a lot more fun if you could actually GET somewhere with some degree of reliability. Right now, any trip by vehicle is like playing Russian Roulette with an automatic pistol. As for the sameness of the clubs, I agree. Part of that is that you have to have something to DO at a club. What is it that we can do? We can talk, but we can do that anywhere. We can dance, because there are lots of nice dance animations. And that's pretty much it. So...what we need are more GOOD quality animations that could form the underpinnings for other activities. Hmmm. How about a scripted chess game? Playgrounds with animated equipment? Golf? I'd like to see something that marries PGA 2000 with SL. Maybe some SL health spas with animated equipment and aerobic dance classes. Live music and live theatre are great SL activities, and I'd like to see more of them. We need interactive animals, with some AI in them. I have a couple of SL "pets", but they don't do anything really, unless I make them do it via menu or chat. I'd like a dog that does stuff on his own sometimes, or a cat that only comes around when it's hungry. _____________________

Maybe some SL health spas with animated equipment and aerobic dance classes. You do know that there's a slider that determines the size of your avatar's ass? |

Yes Sally, Cin Cin LOL I just looked in at lunchtime for a few minutes .. I shall return!
![]() Madhu, I agree with you. Cafe's and other eateries can be just as sociable as dancing. There used to be a charming bistro on the southern end of Naughty Island. Not having a go at who said cafes are nonsense but I think no more nonsense than kitchens and bathrooms. Heck, it's our fantasy. Live your own LOL _____________________

I'd like to see something that marries PGA 2000 with SL. Maybe some SL health spas with animated equipment and aerobic dance classes. How about a park with a giant chess game, a cafe to watch the chess from, story time at the end of the chess, which can turn into a big bonfire in the evenings when it grows dark. An ecosystem of some sort, maybe birds and rabbits etc. Put a children's play park in there with decent anims and laughter etc. A paddling pool or little brook for children to play in. A dancing area and maybe a romantic walking trail with benches and places to stop and appreciate the scenery. Places for live music where people can sit on the grass and listen or dance the night away. You could even rent spaces for people to live around the edges in cottages or cabins and keep the central area for the public. A place where any one is welcome, couples, singles, families with children, furries, different cultures all together. *shakes head* Sorry I got a bit carried away lol. That would all be a bit much unless you had an entire sim to do it on. perhaps more than one even lol. it kinda reminds me of a place i used to visit. I would love to be able to create something like this but a)I don't have the moolah, and b)I don't have the talent to create a space like this. I can dream it and picture it but not create it - how sad is that lol. Ok well I'm gonna snap out of my trance now. ![]() _____________________

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

My avatar's ass looks fabulous, thank you...but it would be another place to go and socialize, with different scenery and animations. Besides, my RL ass could use some work. Maybe I'll do some stationary bike or treadmill along with my av. _____________________

I'd rent a place on the border of a park like that. One day, hopefully, we will be able to taste whatever we order at a cafe in SL through wires hooked up to our brains... calorie-free cookies. |

Lower sim prices. I'm talking $30 per month at the most. Even if it means removing the jittery physics engine and having "economy sims" that just have basic avatar physics. Linden Lab overestimated the need for a physics engine and this is why Second Life is what it is today. The other day I had an idea for another alternate architecture, which probably won't be possible in Second Life, but might be possible with OpenSim. What they'd need to do is to try to develop so that a sim can start up or shut down in just a few seconds, instead of the minutes it currently takes. Then, they can just _not host_ all the sims that don't have anyone in them. This would allow a grid to be made where everyone paid a monthly subscription, but could have as much land as they wanted. SL actually used to be like that, but it failed, because it still used the current hosting model: if you earned more land, that meant another computer to host it, and LL weren't getting any more real money from you so they couldn't buy one. But with this model, your monthly fee would pays for your share of a computer at LL, and that share just keeps changing to host the land your avatar is on at the time. So you can own a hundred islands if you want to, since you'll still only ever be on one at a time; if someone else is one of of your islands, your island is hosted on that other person's share. Of course special arrangements would have to be made for "server scripts". But to answer the original question I think Second Life needs to have either better role immersion and more role validation, OR much easier and cheaper access and customizability.. |
