Well at times it *can* seem like a thread that is not liked by certain members (because it's repetitive, or argumentative, or too serious in tone or what have you) is more or less deliberately derailed for that reason by a spam of posts about biplanes, pie, panties, sex and what have you .... which I can understand may seem quite annoying to other people who are posting and trying to have a conversation. I don't think it means that there is a "clique", but generally it is a consistent group who is engaged in that kind of one line spam of posts here.
I guess I will shut my pie hole for those easily offended today.

But people forget, they have a choice, if it is not to their taste then why read it in the first place.

I personally like the diversity of these posts and IMO I get a good laugh from time to time, but that is my choice.

BTW, I don't consider the group notices to be spam. No one is trying to make money here or sell anyone anything, which is what real spam is. These are notices so people know what is going on and that get togethers are happening. These notices will certainly be less frequent as time goes on and the dust settles.

I don't either... most of them bring at least a smile to my face and some of them much more than that. So they are ususally welcomed.

The flashing tab gets to me once in a while, specially if I got three or four of them flashing at the same time. If it gets too much I just kill the tab.

So FD, at the risk of being glib, just hang out and don't worry too much about the group... Just relax and be yourself.

This made me chuckle.

Can we all get back to delving into women's bras and panties, please? Thank you.

Sometimes with this group it's easier to just barge your way into a conversation... I know that's hard to do, but seriously, this group talks SO much, sometimes it's hard to get a word in edgewise unless you come in swinging. ;) snip....

That's what I did.:D I am usually pretty shy until you get to know me. Sometimes I go there and just sit and listen, sometimes I talk and talk ..... Either way I feel welcome there and have a good time.:)

My last thought for the day: 95% of the glib comments are usually posted to lighthearted threads where they are appropriate (this started out as one, but quickly turned into a poutfest). Serious threads with serious issues/questions are treated with respect and helpful answers are always the priority there.

Also, the ignore button is a great tool for those who can't handle a little levity. Another is using your own judgment and simply not reading threads with headers that make it clear they are not going to be 100% serious or will contain subject matter that does not interest the viewer.

There are certain topics that I always try to avoid (ageplay, gambling and ginko) because everyone's said everything I think or will ever think on the subjects. There are some topics, like the honest questions, that I'm just not capable of answering (especially if they're seriously techie.) I DO TRY to answer what I can and hope that I'm vaguely right. And then there are some that I just can't avoid, espcially when they get overly goofy. My RL job is so amazingly tediously dull that these forums keep me awake to collect my paycheck. If I can laugh and help out at the same time, so be it. :)

Go here inbetween the awful urls
http://fdspark.blogspot.com/2007/09/free-pie.html
Her is the photo I don't know how to do slurls right or if it I put in right.
It said Dagon Grimm was at secondlife//nakji/30/152 but it should be 30/152/512

Anyway Thanks for all the kind words I got to log off and look for some recipes with my Nurse before he goes to lunch.
I am sorry I was being grumpy.
Sometimes levity is good thing but sometimes annoying when one is looking for specific answer or grumpy at least in my case.
The world I want to imagine sometimes just doesn't revolve properly around me and my alts. LOL

Dont forget my favorite... if I have sex in sl with a dragon in sl, you know they don't really exist in rl.. do I have to tell my partner? Would that be considered cheating?

No apology necessary at all. The issue of perceived exclusivity is an important one and I'm glad we're addressing it, because I'm certain that nobody wants to make anyone feel unwelcome. We need to understand how our posts here might be perceived by others. Tone and context are difficult to convey in written posts.

If the group messaging is going to cause aggrivation, why not have two groups? One only used for official messages and one for group chit chat.

I get annoyed when banter is going on in group IMs when I am busy and find it a struggle to weed out the messages of those stood in front of me from those I haven't a clue who they are. It wouldn't be so bad if we could close the session and it stay that way.

Ok, I am not a member 'yet' as been too busy, someone stole my builder half way through and I still haven't got all the bits in my name yet :p

I don't know about at the hangout, but on the forum it is difficult for those not in the 'clique', their posts tend to be totally ignored while mindless banter ends up pushing it out.

Awww Denise .... you are one of my dearest friends .. I for certain would never exclude you ... and pretty much i dodnt feel anybody would... but I do understnad how things can get lost in a thread..... and im sorry about not passing over the last few stuff *s*

Love ya loads

People already within them rarely do notice.

And sometimes it's easier for people who are shy, insecure, or simply introverted to just point fingers and say "clique".

I know this from personal experience. I was a wallflower most of my life until I got a job that required me to attend a lot of parties and do lots of schmoozing. Wasn't natural to me at all but it taught me that the issue had been me all along not the others.

Not everyone has to be part of a group. Some people it's just not their thing. Some prefer a few close friends only. It's all neither good or bad.

As I said, I don't think there's a clique -- a clique is something that actively tries to exclude others, in my view. I don't think, however, considering a group to be a clique has anything to do with being "introverted". It's a perception of exclusion (and that has nothing to do with the mindset of an introvert, at least not in my case) -- rightly or wrongly. I think that the FC does a lot to reach out to *include * people rather than exclude them, but perhaps sometimes things that seem to be inclusive are more easily perceived by others as being something else.

GOOD LORD ok I just skimmed the two Cartel threads. Wow we can talk! 3 .. no make that 5 things:

1. Poor FD, I'm sorry! I spawned this idea of cherry pie furniture, got lost in "dead system cannot login to SL" nightmare, and then never caught up with these humongolicious threads. I WANT YOUR FURNITURE it looks cool! I'll be by to pick some up tonight ... thanks so much for doing it! MWA!

2. These threads are outa control. I'm just sayin'

3. Re" group IM's/spam. There are now so many different clients in use that I don't know if it works in all of them, but on Nicholaz's clients, if group IM chatter is bugging you, you just click the x in the upper right of JUST THAT GROUP's tab in the IM window. You will not hear anything more from the group during that login (once the queue empties), unless you explicitly start up an IM window with the group. And yes, on the group info page, the little checkbox to "stop receiving group notices" stops only the notices that are distributed via blue pop-up boxes ... does nothing about group IMs.

4. Did I mention that these Cartel threads are waaaayyyyyy outa control? lol!

5. I went to the hangout last night for the first time since the build, met Christalle and Winter and saw the ultracool clothes Oryx wears when she's not a raven. It is a fabulous build and a great community resource! Great job guys!

It's all very confusing. I havent jumped into a thread because theyre all way too many pages long by the time I see them

Yes, I've had fun in many of the threads the "cartel" hang out in, but the threads specific to the hangout/cartel are always on the 2nd page (and I have it set up to show the most messages on one page at a time) before I even think of looking (including this one, but I was bored).

Sometimes with this group it's easier to just barge your way into a conversation... I know that's hard to do, but seriously, this group talks SO much, sometimes it's hard to get a word in edgewise unless you come in swinging. ;) Heck, I lurked on the Forums for a good two or three months before anyone even knew I existed, and even then, my posts were questions over in the Textures area.

When I think of "clique" I think of a group of people that is clannish and closed to new members. I know; I was always on the outside of them in high school. It was painful and humiliating. Cliques are mean and often unforgiving of outsiders. I would hope to God that The Forum Cartel is exactly the opposite. I'm just here to have a good time and meet new folks. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, it's more FUN to know more people! :)

Just barge in . . or start twirling off to the side . . eventually someone will at least comment on the twirling . . .

Oh, and I never notice cliques, and I've never been in one in real life . . .

I enjoyed my quick stay at the hang out, wish I could have stayed longer to meet more people. I also felt very welcome. They are a warm welcoming bunch of people!

I loved the one time I was able to go and visit the hangout.

I was just saying that as someone who isn't part of what people perceive as the in-crowd or the captain of the forum Varsity football team or whatever, one of the new guys with no legitimate SL-type skills, nobody has made me feel like I'm unwelcome. Not that there is a clique of cool kids here like most of us experienced in high school.

How's that for a poorly-worded explanation? I'd rework it, but I'm astoundingly lazy.
