Whichever one is serving the best pie
Seriously though, I'd say that, unless you guys want peoples to think the hangout is for cartel members, a hangout thread might be more useful than a cartel thread, because that may make it look a bit cartelly if you know what I mean |

Anyone can just hang out. I also choose the Stones. They wanted to hold much more than just your hand. |

The answer is obvous by which thread is on page 1, I think The people have spoken.
As to the Beatles vs Stones. As far as I'm concerned, the Stones aren't a pimple on Bradley's Ass....... _____________________

Well it seems to more useful to those who are important to the threads. No one probably is even hearing or caring about my opinion so this will be last time I mention it. At first I was geninuely interest and wanted to support it but I don't have energy nor time to deal with worse part of forum BS inworld truthfully. Nor do I want to get into long detailed explaination of what I consider worse part of forum bs either. But enjoy, I am ignoring the thread and no longer supporting it. I don't want to be part of group that spams my ims and message box ten times a week or more and is a part of someone's popularity contest either. But its amazing how fast something was organized. Perhaps people are bored or perhaps its popularity. I have no clue enough that they are willing to put together that much support that fast for project. I bet these guys could sell anything.

Hey FD, don't be so hard on yourself. It *is* a phenomenon the way the hangout's taken shape from an idea to the real thing in such a short time. Full marks to Brenda, Ray, Oryx, Marty, Malachi, Chris in no particular order and the many others I've left out.
I've just admitted, jokingly in another thread I spend too long online, both work and home. I am going to have to try and divert more attention to RL. The Forum Cartel has certainly livened things up here. I hope it's not distracting our attentions from helping out others, the original purpose of the forum. I have groups which spam me far, far more than the cartel. Now at least I have a place I can go to see who else is about rather than wait on IMs and being Europe despite missing most of the american action I still get to meet a lot of them. Though sceptical at the formation of the idea, I've put my dark thoughts behind me for the time being. It's proving to me a huge success. _____________________

Well...it makes it seem like they are two different spots...two different communities. Even I'm confused...the sim where we are located is 'The Forum Cartel', and the bar on the hill (in the Cartel community) is called 'The Forum Hangout'...is this correct?

The main reason behind the different names on the different plots is for ease of LMs. I thought both had the same name but with different identifiers. I will check it. We did subdivide so that we could have different music in the garden from the bar. The sim we are located in is ALLANA, if I spelled it right. _____________________

Hmm. It's a bad thing that people all band together to do something? I never said it was a bad thing. I am impressed with the speed of how it was formed. The things I have problem with it is being spammed, not having time nor the energy to ask or be convincing enough to be included in ways I can be and being talked at incessantly but no one really listening like the what happens in forums. We can't even ask question in Residence Answers without some type of BS but their lot of room for popularity and humping contest, egos, opinions and grandstanding. I don't want that in my instant message boxes and I am not saying this has happen but I am concerned its beginning. I am all for people getting together and doing stuff. Things can get bit lonesome and boring inworld, outworld at least for me. And I was all for fun and something new. Just not sure if I am a horny or cheerful enough guy to be included. I make things, when I don't make things I am learning how to make things that just for fun. It would been nice to have some other people to share the things like the Pie furniture I spent hours and hours on for the group but no one seemed to care either way about. It stinks to create things and no one cares or will ever see it. I don't spend lot of time socializing except with very small group of people. And it gets bit overwhelming for me to have tons and tons of messages all at the same time. That just a personal thing I guess. |

Hmm. It's a bad thing that people all band together to do something? Just a little history. back in the early months of the year, when i first stumbles in here, a couple of the big discussions surrounded The ESC Sheepbot Incident, and the SL Privacy Issues, which really spoke to some of the Core Values of a lot of the people here concerning thier visions of second life. At times that argument got heated, acrimonious, downright nasty. For some reason, during this Chris and I began talking in world and sort of became an inworld Switzerland, where several of the most bitter forum enemies actually had civil conversations. From that the idea to start the group was hatched. from that beginning to what it is today is quite an accomplishment in my eyes. Where the group goes from here we can't say, it has grown and changed, and admittedly changed beyond what the original vision of it was, for better or for worse. But to this point all those involved should be immensely proud of what they have achieved. _____________________

FD, I hear your frustration and annoyance. Pie furniture sounds cool and, though I can't speak for everyone including the ad hoc building committee, there is probably room for it there--especially if it's got a comfy meringue topping. I have a feeling the IM thing might calm down a bit as the group settles in.

And it gets bit overwhelming for me to have tons and tons of messages all at the same time. That just a personal thing I guess. Well, I can understand where you're coming from. What the FC has done has been a good thing for many of the participants, certainly. It's been a case of teamwork and coming together for something that the majority of participants seem to have wanted, which is generally a good thing. But, of course, it isn't for everyone. It's to be expected that the clubhouse and surrounds would become a social hangout because that was its intention, it's raison d'etre. And the generally light-hearted banter type approach that you see here in the forums was also to be expected, I think. I don't think anything else could have reasonably been expected, to be honest. Now I'm fully supportive of the project, and have supported it financially, even though it isn't quite my cup of tea either. I have a lot of in-world friends, and basically virtually none of them even looks at the forums. They have no interest. So it's a bit difficult for me to bridge the two worlds, at times, and I'm quite happy for the most part to keep my forum participation, such as it is, more or less separated from my in-world activities. That doesn't mean, however, that the FC or the clubhouse or anything like that is a bad thing at all. To the contrary, it's a good thing for the folks who are enjoying it, who appear to be numerous. |

The building crew can speak to this better but so many offers were coming in, some probably were missed. No slight is intended. That being said, not everything offered could be used in the build, either by reason of fitting into themes, or just as there isn't room for now. The best contribution anyone can make is you yourself. Use this space as the builder's intnded. A place to socialize, to relax, to have fun. Find a corner and make it your own, it can be your own personal SL space if you don't have one.

I see a little of where FD is coming from.
I love all you guys, and I love the forums here and the crazy threads (dig those crazy threads!) I love the hangout, and the parties, and the wonderful way this whole project came together, and the way the Cartel membership doubled in a week. What I don't love is trying to concentrate on something, hearing the "ding!" of an incoming message, and having the Forum Cartel IM tab flashing at me all the time. It's distracting. I wish there was some way I could Mute the group chat without actually leaving the group. It's not the group's fault, really...y'all have every right to a party line, and being as chatty as you want. But I have this ingrained instinct...whenever a phone rings, I tend to drop everything and run pick it up. "Ding!" makes me twitch like one of Pavlov's dogs. _____________________

Open groups, click cartel, show info, untick group messages .... or does that only turn off the IM? Actually, doesn't it turn off notices? There are a BUNCH of proposals in JIRA regarding group chat. I personally can't stand the Arbor Project chats, and they happen 2 or 3 times a day. If I could mute it and never see it pop up, I would. [Edit: Just checked: it's a check box in the General page of the Group Info Dialog box. Default is checked ON for 'receive group notices'.... says nothing about Chat.] https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-64 for ability to mute group chat via a check box. _____________________
