I have noticed that when I spread my legs (in world LOL), there is a negative, unskinned area.

/me thinks of all kinds of interesting remarks that may not be appropriate here

Is this a SL limitation or some type of issue with my skin? To clarify, I am talking full on spread eagle, mid-air splits on a dance pole or when I am totally bent over full monty.

PLMK, it really bugs me.

It's the avatar mesh and you'll get it with any skin. Some are better than others....but it will show up regardless.

The crotch is a problematic area for the avatar mesh. Depending on the skin you are wearing, it may look a little better, or a lot worse.

The avatar Mesh designers just didn't leave enough pixels and polys available there .. I guess they were naive and thought everyone would want to be Ken and Barbie.

Ohh if you want to look better bent over braced against a pole full monty and definition is overly lacking, you might consider getting a prim attachment for yourself.

As far as a thong goes you are basically out of luck.

You know, the crotch question is one that's been on my mind since I've been to Second Life, but I've never dared ask. And now I know.

*snerks and bails a bit of sewer water out before she replies*

Yes, that is the biggest gripe I have with the avatar mesh. Right below that is the lack of a neck attachment point!

The SL avatar mesh is insanely badly designed apparently by someone who had never seen a real woman's groin. (although that is far from the only problem with it.

Actually I think the avatar mesh is well designed within limitations - I think I read it's 4,000 triangles. It's not just those thigh triangles, but a lot of the joints go funny when subjected to extreme articulation.

One day, hopefuly, avatars will be tweaked with a much finer mesh. That would be nice - but LL should concentrate on giving us proper in-world shadows first!

This is the reason the TAO should include Pr0n.

....But you just need to look at avatars in some of the other online virtual worlds to realise SL ones are quite good!!!

I heard that the Linden designer closed his eyes when making that area of the avatar.

Hey, life was very different back then.

To be fair to Linden Lab, though- even the most popular, celebrated, detailed, complex 3D female mesh in common use (DAZ's Millenium Woman series) was always notoriously lacking in the area of her genitalia.

Really? I didn't realize. Before SL I was working with Sims 2 meshes. It's an understatement to say that I'm no expert but I could improve the texture mapping on the SL avatar using MilkShape 3d. I could also give the crotch a more realistic shape and with a bit of research figure out how fix the skirt mesh so that it moved with the legs.

edited to add: without adding any polygons.

I was thinking of 'There', Active Worlds, Kaneva, Entropia, Hipihi etc. SL has better avatars than any of those.

Only problem with redoing the avatar mess.. er mesh, is that it would require clothing designers to redo their work. But I'd think it worth the price to get a good mesh out of the deal.

Isn't that the truth? I can't tell you how many poses I have thrown out when they were 90% complete simply because that one joint looked horrid when it was bent the way a real arm bends.

A better mesh is not just for woopie. Sitting in a pair of shorts can have some awful results with anything between a thong and knee length.

You're the kind of girl we would all love to tie up and do awful things to. You have a strong sense of self and you are in complete control of your sensual side as well. Based on these pictures, I'm giving you a 9.1 - which is a VERY strong start for your first submission (heh - I said "submission";). You are a slut, but in the most positive, sexy way. Congratulations and shame on you!

Theyve done a good job with female avatars. You should see the men ones, looks like eunuchs!

However fair to say, Linden Labs make the best online avatars for desk top online world VR, so I am not really complaining!

Also, one can go shopping in SL for willies and pussies to wear, to make those private moments more realistic! :)

QFT

I'd have to redo my entire product line as well.

Keep in mind that while a change in avatar may require merchants to redo their work, it will also inspire a resident spending spree to upgrade their looks. An established merchant, with the skill and knowledge to quickly adapt, and the forsight to pay attention to LL announcements regarding avatar changes, might be poised to do some lucractive business at the time of the change. (Well, as lucrative as any SL business can be.)
