From my end in the UK, the forum is fine during my days - not 100%, but almost that. It's when the systems get busier, during my evenings, that the forum tanks and consists of short periods of being good and short periods of being impossible, although there are odd evenings when it's largely ok. So from my end, the problem appears to be very much related to how busy the forums, and/or related systems, are.

I can easily imagine that LL has installed some sort of load handling system, where low priority requests, like those for forum pages, are held back if the load is high, while higher priority requests go through as quickly as possible. That's just my imagination, of course.

I don't wait long times for pages to arrive. My page requests time-out in about a minute or so, and I get a "... cannot display the page" message, but that may be something to do with my browser settings.

I'm only "down the road" from Phil and that's pretty much how it is for me too.
It's behaving quite well now, but I'm sure at peak times it will be a different story.

I hate "me too" posts, but Phil and Prawny's experience is the same as mine - OK during the working day in UK, and disastrous afterwards, when the US plugs in. Must be a loading problem LL have just created because I can't believe that there has been an increase in Forum use recently - in fact it should be the other way around now Jig has said she is leaving. ;-)

Hmmm... this reminds me of the last time we had a spell of Forums misbehavior over a year ago, with HTTP 503 errors as I recall. And if I recall correctly (always doubtful), it turned out that the Forums were kind of a leading indicator of the network as a whole going to hell... maybe some load-balancer routing loop or something? Does anybody clearly recall that ancient history?

(I'm thinking there could end up being some relationship between Forums slowness and the worsened texture-loading times, even when concurrency is well below peak.)

OMG, I thought it was MY computer!! I have to try over and over again to even load the forums, and God FORBID I try to post. It most certainly IS maddening, and for the most part, I've stopped posting here much at all. :: sigh :: (wondering how many times I'll have to repaste this and hit submit)

I'm in the UK too, and I have no problems loading forum pages - it's practically instant every time, and always has been (except when the site is completely down).

Osprey et al - the quick way to clear cookies (without searching for options, etc.) is to "log out" of the forums (you stay logged in to the SL website), and yep, that makes things even faster. Of course, you then have to log back in, but if you use the Forum log out when you are ending your session, then it doesn't matter.

*bahs* I've had errors on all parts of the page, not just the forums. Geeze, why not just close the website all together, LL?

It is highly apparent that it's not everyone's ISP causing issues.... >.<

It could also be a bug. If your using Firefox3, some see lots of "The connection was interrupted" or " The connection was reset" error messages. I myself have seen this alot latley, not only here, but on other sites that work quite well normally.

A quick google of the error messages, and it seems quite a few peeps are getting the same things.

Just tossing this out there, YMMV.

I use IE, so it's not specific to Firefox.

Hey folks,

I had been having the same problem and last week it finally became unbearable. Until I glazed over this thread, I hadn't thought to go look and see if this was a widespread problem.

I run firefox 3 on Vista so googeling for the connection problems gave me this http://www.dealpond.com/blog/2008/09/5-ways-to-fix-firefox-3-connection-errors-in-vista/

I tried the first option, enable auto-detect proxy and immediately saw the forums improve ten fold! If anyone is running firefox and/or vista, try these out.

I use Firefox but, being a bit of a luddite, I still use XP. It's good to read you found a solution there but some posters don't even use Firefox and they're still having problems. I think the root of the problem is definitely server side because performance is fine until day arrives on the far side of the Atlantic and the online population increases dramatically.

I hazarded 10 o'clock in the evening in an earlier post (midday SLT) but I noted the drop at 8 o'clock this evening, which would have been 10 in the morning over in Frisco.

I use IE7 and XP Home and have the problems. Last night I was on the computer at my Mom's House, which has WindowsMe and IE6 and still had the same troubles. Something isn't kosher.

With so many different people having these problems and others who don't I also doubt that it's an ISP problem.

I still wonder if a traceroute shows clear sailing right up to LL's servers or if there is a bottleneck somewhere on the way, especially for people who have response time problems. Maybe it's a specific server in the LL load balancing architecture which is malfunctioning.

For me (forum performing OK), my last traceroute lines read:

21 225 ms 204 ms 204 ms LINDEN-RESE.car2.SanFrancisco1.Level3.net [4.78.242.50]
22 226 ms 307 ms 189 ms loadbalancer18.lindenlab.com [8.4.128.238]

Oh beauty! :DAnother thread about how bad the forums are. Must be very common for a lot of people and may indicate it's getting worse.:(
I think the end is nigh. May sounds like a good month to make major changes.
They should either CHANGE IT or FIX IT. There are no other choices.:)

I suspect that the people who don't have the problems don't see them because they are not continually using the forum like some of us do. Even at the worst of times (Europe evenings) there are perfectly good periods, and even the odd reasonable entire day.

It takes a lot to pull me up out of the lurker's shadows.

There is a problem here. The pages take forever to load. I get frequent error messages that IE can't load the page. Most of the time I just give up and go somewhere else online.

We can't all have the same ISP. You are right about this Rha. Good call.

They are not slightest bit interested in it because they are not slightest bit interested in providing a good service, as long as there are enough paying users to make LL profitable.. They know it's not your ISP.

I've started to wonder if they've deliberately thrown a spanner in the works, just to make forum users so dissatisfied that they won't be too bothered when they close it.

I SSOO have to agree with this... kinda..
The coders at LL simply SUCK!
Look at what they have put out there in the past from day one.. ask your self is it reall THAT hard.. NO!
Its only data nothing more NOTHING
They give great sounding excuse as to how complex it is... its NOT!
Its just data nothing more...

*old rant off cause it wont change someones skill lvl*

I use Firefox, so it's not the browser, either. LL really needs to get their heads out of the sand on this.

But then again, they've denied they've had website issues before, until it collapsed for a couple of hours. Hopefully, it won't take that this time.

When I submitted a ticket on this, which I have done in the past with good results, I was told that Support does not handle forum issues.
