Yippee! I'm so glad that helped - awfully frustrating to get nothing but errors.

OK....It took 22 minutes to get this page to load, using combinations of refesh and actually closing out the browser and going back in. It's been almost 2 weeks now. If ANY Linden is reading, decide on the fate of this forum NOW and implement it. You have your new shiny blog, if that is going to be the conduit, along with the Yahoo Answers thingie, then tell everyone here and shut the goddamn thing down. It is an insult to all the people who do use it to keep it in such a languishing state. It doesn't mater if the majority of customers don't come here. Does LL thnk so little of the customers who do? * rheteorical* or care so little about it's name and product attached to such an embarrassment? rhetorical*

Is it worth getting apoplectic? No. But it is one of the little annoyances that add up that keep people from really embracing LL and SL I think. It just sends a message that they don't care.

Maybe it *is* ISP related?

For instance, I very rarely get page load errors, but it still takes between 60 and 600 seconds for the page to load.

Just waiting for this reply page to load took almost two minutes, but I didn't get any errors :)

It's obvious that Linden Lab does not care about the forums, nor do they care that poor forum performance has a direct correlation to how we feel about Linden Lab in general.

I get the same performance with the SecondLife.com website, by the way. They clearly don't care about first impressions either, it would seem.

I get errors at least half of the time now, probably more, and when the page does load it does so very slowly and many of the elements on the page (the banner at the top, for example, and forum icons) do not load anymore. I just see little broken page icons everywhere.

I wonder if using an alternate DNS server address would do any good.

It won't. It's neither a DNS issue nor an ISP issue. At any time of the day, I can click something in the forum, get a status bar message stating something about waiting for the site to reply, followed almost immediately by "loading page from forums.secondlife.com" - which means my computer is having no trouble whatsoever finding the site, and the site is replying back to the connection request. It's the actual data transfer that's slower than molasses on a cold Alaskan January!

I have also noticed that it's incredibly bad pretty much throughout the day, but gets amazingly fast after some time around 6pm PST - sometimes a little earlier, sometimes a little later.

I have seen the same issues on other forums in the past and while the powers that be in whatever cases would insist that 'oh it must be you', it has always been followed in fairly short order by changes to the forums themselves. I'm kind of surprised it has gone on as long as it has, but would not be surprised to log on at any time and find big changes.

I think that someone is doing something in the background that portends change. But the thought has flitted thru my mind, like Maureen, that they just tryin to get rid of us by being majorly annoying :P But since the main page itself does not always load completely (or at all) they would be annoying potential new people as well, which makes me think that isn't really it.

I think someone is about to move the cheese.

edit: took off a g to annoy Pep

For what it's worth I:

Deleted cookies
Closed browser

Opened browser
Went to SL homepage
Surfed to forums *all fresh and sparkly like*
Have had no errors

However if I use a history link to get to the forums it goes wonky, dunno why.

At worst, I get 1-2 minute response times when refreshing, mostly at the time of heaviest use, around 11 PM GMT. Nothing on the scale Brenda is reporting. But then, my browser is set to auto-clean cookies upon closing. That sure helps.

Texture loading in-world is bad, but I can't really complain about the forum. Maybe the problem really *is* an ISP issue? Try ping, traceroute and the like to see where the delay happens.

Also, when I had similar problems years ago with various websites, using a smaller MTU on the LAN solved the timeout issues.

I haven't tried the cookies thing yet because the forums work absolutely fine for me throughout my day. I'm GMT+2 so that puts me ten hours ahead of SLT.

The problem seems to be connected to load on the server. I start having trouble around 10 in the evening when Murka has fully woken up. I notice the population of residents online increases by roughly 140% at the same time and I have concurrent problems with chat lag, servers not finding assets, failure to teleport and all the usual fun and games we have in-world when it's busy.

The last two days the forums and web page have been loading OK, but for two or so weeks I could barely get on the forums, see my transactions or the blog. I'm so glad I was able to get on the forum and gab about pubes, though. All hope was not lost.

It warms my heart to read that some residents still have a sensible grasp of their priorities.
