I think you are assuming I am making a snide comment ..

My statement was not snide. I was saying if the SIM owner gave you permission, it does not matter whether you are causing lag or not.

Its no different than if you wanted to build a giant purply-plastic volcano in a strict themed Victorian SIM. Even if it didn't fit the theme and was an eyesore - who cares because the SIM owner gave you permission to build it.

Yes, there is a difference. My build isn't causing lag, isn't interfering with anyone, and looks great.

There is no comparison to your example. Your example makes the case that the tenant is in SOME way having a negative effect on his surroundings...however, I am not.

Hi, Michael. You could probably start a new thread with this topic for discussion. But here is my feelings on shopping taken from a comment in the middle of a technical thread ^.^

When I go to a store for the first time, I know it will take time to rez. I just move off the landing pad a bit and wait or go make a drink or what ever. What I would like like is that after i get back, I want to see the sections of the store so I can go where I want quickly. Hair left, furniture right, shoes second floor, whatever.

I also want the aisles to be open enough so that I don't have my camera crowded up behind me.

If I need to see the final product, that is like the last thing I would do. Find the area, look at the static pictures, click to res a copy of the furniture. I would like to do things in that order. Why wait for a ton of blue cars to rez when I want to buy a red motorcycle. Does that make sense?

Absolutely. This is something I make sure of...well, I really can't change the situation, because I only have smaller parcel studios. It doesn't take long for someone to TP in my studios, and everything is loaded.

It annoys me when stores are SO big, and there are so many product ad boards, that it takes over 10 min to load everything...this is one major reason I think huge stores are at a disadvantage.

My point was it doesn't matter whether you are or not.

If the landlord said it was okay it trumps those other considerations.

Too good to be true. Are there issues?
Yes, there are issuse.
Issues have been dealt with.

Why are we still kicking this thread around anyway? As far as I can tell there was a question, an answer and a resolution all done nice, neat and finished a few pages back.

Not quite...there were a lot of unanswered replies, which I felt obligated to respond to. I haven't seen this thread since I left work yesterday, and I came in today and tied up loose ends.

I see nothing wrong with that.

It's not that cut and dry...there wasn't a three part process here. It started one way, then I received permission to use it, then things changed, and the thread evolved. Then people began to totally ignore the OK by the land owner, and starting calling me a 'freeloader.'

So, just saying...it's not cut and dry.

Mike, thats all I was saying ...

The OK of the land owner should have been enough for everyone.

Whether you were causing lag or not becomes a moot issue.

Even if you were making gobs of lag its still the landlord's call.

I never said you were causing lag.

One last thing:

All this assuming and bashing, and have any of you gone to the location to see how it runs for you? Tell me after you see the build that it isn't high quality, and super cool, with very minimal lag and performance drop. I dare ya!

What's the use of all this publicity if I don't take advantage of it? :)

I love you all. Thanks for the advice overall.

I think you're okay, Michael. Temp-Rezzed prims most definately can be abused - but I think in this case you're being reasonable about them.

As a side note: Don't forget how imprecise English is as a language, and how much we depend upon inflection & tone to convey what we mean. In an internet forum (especially with BBCode turned off), its painfully easy for a misunderstanding to start - and once it does, it snowballs.

Keep that skin thick & don't lose any sleep over it :)

Thanks. I try to keep language barrier in mind. And I'm working on that thick skin...it's a content battle to swallow one's pride.

I would swallow my pride,
I would choke on the rines,
But the lack there of would leave me empty inside.
Swallow my doubt turn it inside out,
Find nothing but faith in nothing.
Want to put my tender heart in a blender,
Watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion.

Sorry. Can't help it somethimes.
Whatever happened to Eve6 anyway?

Upping the stakes:

From: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/04/02/second-life-simulator-v120083683-rollout-followup/#more-1816

Q: I am seeing performance problems on my region that didn’t seem to be present before the update. What could be causing this?

A: There are a few types of operations that seem to cause more performance impact with the new physics engine than the old one. In particular very complex shapes that are rezzed repeatedly and quickly can take more of a toll on performance than with the old simulator.

Oooo! that's very interesting indeed, but kinda makes sense if those rezzed pieces aren't phantom and are therefore subject to the more precise collision envelope of H4. I wonder if that's all it is, or if even phantom objects could somehow be affected.

Whoa whoa...hold on there cowboy. I wasn't, how did you put it, 'recticent' to find an alternate way to present my products. I said clearly several times, if the landlord doesn't like it, I'll remove it, and use a one-item at a time rezzer...that was clear.

I may be savvy about a lot of things, but I'm not completely clear on temp rezzers. My friend was using one, the same way I was, so I thought it was fine. I went to check out the product, and it didn't seem to me that I was purchasing a 'freeloader's' device.

I simply wasn't aware it was such an issue. However, after I set everything up, I began to think...this is too good to be true. What do other citizens think of it?

So I came here, and promptly asked the landlord.

That's the full story.

Hi Michael,

I only said *seems* reticent because you did seem that way to me. You made several comments on how much work you had put into to the project. I can understand how that must have made you feel and so I felt that you were reticent to remove your use of the temp rezzers (this was before the posts about you having got your landlords permission). Perhaps I misread that reticence but it just seemed that way to me.

I never mentioned freeloader in my post at all Michael - I am not calling you a freeloader at all.

To respond to your last point. You are backing up what I said in my post. You did not know about temp rezzers and rather than ask about them first - you built and then came asking the questions.

It seems to me you are saying that you looked at your friends build and there were no doubts, then you spent all that time building your own build with no doubts until you finished - then you had doubts? I don't think I buy that one I am afraid.

All I was trying to say is that the truly responsible action would have been to seek clarification first and then build. I can bet if you had been in a more populated sim and lagged it to a standstill or crashed it - the order of your actions would not have received much sympathy from the rest of the residents of that sim especially if some lost their work because of it.

The upshot is - if you use a powerful tool that has the potential to impact a lot of people then getting some advice about it should come before anything else. That was my only point.

I was not attacking you personally in anyway, and I hope you don't feel I was.

EDIT: I totally give you kudos for asking questions at all though and getting your landlady's permission in the end. Perhaps I should have said that too - you could have easily not done those things and kept quiet so the fact you didn't was in your favour for sure :)
