Hi I'm working on my PhD thesis and my subject is "Jerks in Virtual Environments" If you are a jerk, or think you might be one, would you help me out by following the link below and answering a few questions? It will only take about 15 minutes and I'll be really grateful.

Offer 5 lindens for taking the survey, just to sweeten the deal :)

I once came home to my castle and found some people...ah, using my exercise equipment in the dung...er, basement.

Then one of them told me they wanted privacy and they don't like voyeurs. I asked them to look at "about land" and there was a very amusing long silence...

I get visitors all the time just rezzing into my house - no idea how seeing as the landing point is set outside but they do. I used to have a device that would teleport them home if they were not the access list and were younger than 5 days with NPIOF. Then I realise I can use them as a source of food - so I invite them to stay now - muhahaha. Still got that blocked sewer though - darn!!!

The OP should have turned on damage and then used them for target practice - that guy should have been made to run around fleeing bullets before being tp out and if he did manage to somehow set home there then the fun continues until you have decided you have had enough - then ban and eject.

It can also be fun to take the piece of exercise equipment back into your inventory or move it around while they are using it.

The female version of the miscreant has her own "boyfriend", who basically just likes being walked on and can't do better for himself.

You did? It's not even payday.

LL must've stolen my money while I was logged in at that internet cafe. Stupid American company.

I'm going to spend 4 hours on a long distance call swearing at some customer services drone until they give me my L$100 back. This is outrageous.

No, better than that. I built a rather fetching cottage in the middle of it. I'll send you 100L on payday.
Oh oh I see not until payday. Shoot.

The only thing you're missing is that there's retard losers like that in SL. Ban the avatar and kick him off your land.

Sometimes folks like those are a few brain cells short of a pair.
Like those who plop a house right down on an active runway and get all uppity when its returned by land owners, staff, or autoreturn... Or someone parks a jumbo jet in their living room...

<blinks>
<Elbows Ceka lightly in the ribs and whispers> "Is it just my world & imagination or did Millie the moderator just post something resident conversational?"

Especially if you do that from the other side of the sim, watching them trying to cright click a intermittently shifting poseball is halarious. Then when the other equipment gets a bit frisky and starts moving to interact with the avatars.................

feh. banning. how boring. I' d have a little sign up, reading "Warning, weapons test area. By loitering here or even bulding here you agree to volunteer as a practice target.", and then set the whole place to damage enabled.

Yes imagine how much fun you could have with a squatter over a few weeks before they are totaly demoralised, return random objects of theirs, get your alts to place other objects that look like theirs in their place, swap normal couch poseballs for extra kinky ones, an invisible non-phantom prim wall to wall in their loungeroom, edit the ground level, maybe some prim water on the floor in the kitchen, a few cage traps in the garden, sloped invisible prims on their floors.... :)

I am thoroughly confused. I just purchased some land, and immediately there was someone building a house on it. He initially claimed it was his land, but if I right-click the ground outside and choose "About Land...", it says it's mine. After he then refused to answer me for some time, I disabled object creation and returned his house. He then grew somewhat verbally abusive. I just want to confirm that I'm not misunderstanding something. If I right-click the land and it clearly says it belongs to me, is there any situation in which someone else should expect to be able to build a house there?

I've attached the conversation with names removed:

[9:40] You: Hello.
[9:40] X: hello
[9:40] X: did u knock
[9:40] You: Sorry. I thought I just bought this.
[9:40] X: no this is my part of land
[9:40] You: Oops, sorry!
[9:41] You: Are you sure? If I right-click the land, it says I'm the owner.
[9:41] X: ur
[9:42] X: you are
[9:44] You: Okay, so if I am the owner, why are you building a house here?
[9:44] X: cause i need 1
[9:44] You: On my land?
[9:45] X: i will pay
[9:45] You: I am not renting the land, though.
[9:45] X: so
[9:46] You: Perhaps you had better explain yourself.
[9:48] You: Do you intend to explain yourself?
[9:49] X: wow
[9:49] X: fuck u
[9:49] X: bitch
[9:49] X: i was going to give you 100 lindens

*chortles* Ooohh, yes! I love this idea too!

I had someone try to extort protection money from me on my own land. I froze him, ejected him, banned him and sat laughing as he tried to fire on me from land that wasn't push enabled. I responded, "Yeahhh.. I don't think I need your protection. Do you?"

There are a fair share of insensitive people in SL. Once I logged in to find someone had built a huge house around mine.. i was like WTFrench! TOAST! :P So i im'd him and he denied that it was his, so I told him that it said it was and that if he did not promptly come remove his piece o crap I was going to AR him.

Well he started calling me names.. etc so I was like bring it! LOL and TP'd him.. when he arrived he was dressed like this big bad demon guy. I just laughed in the face of evil. :P I was there with a couple of my friends and he was trying to slash us all to pieces.. i managed to control my laughter long enough to get my watermelon gun out and put a few caps in his ass....but it just wasn't powerful enough to do the job. Then he thought using his spaceship would really make him look big but I pulled out a stronger gun and blasted him from the sky..

ahhhhh great times. That had to be one of my most enjoyable times in SL. :P In the end he packed up his toys and went home and my friends and I had a terrific laugh at his expense.

So in short.. yeah, you did nothing wrong.. next time just give as good as you get ;).

You correction doesn't even make any sense.

I'm no republican by a long shot - but saying they would support a communal "share the land" type idea is pretty backwards.

It only doesn't make sense if you are ignorant of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. City of New London which expanded the doctrine of eminent domain to allow the seizure of privately owned land for private development of the land which would serve the greater economic interest of the community. The post to which Brenda was responding was asking if someone can build on the person's land and in the United States, the highest court, packed by Republican appointees, has said yes they can if the government chooses to take it away from you and give it to them. While the decision has since been widely criticized by the entire political spectrum including Republicans, it is nonetheless ironic that a Republican packed court would have issued such a decision which, as illustrated by your own conceptions and Brenda's, is the type of policy that one would imagine would be adopted by a political body with a more liberal socialist agenda.

I don't think taking the homes of small land owners and giving them to large corporations is really very socialistic.

It would help if LL didn't turn on all permissions for land that goes through a sale.
It's idiotic.

[Ban Line mention warning]
When newbies buy land, they don't necessarily know that they should set land permissions to something sane.
Then somebody craps all over their land.
ZOMG! How do I stop this?
Ban everyone!!!
[/Ban Line mention warning]

Well, some of the settings are not the most obvious in meaning and some builders build items that require creation for use of fancy teleporters (functioning elevators are the most common). You can lose a building in the process of learning - it would be useful to hand anyone that purchases a premium account an explanation of the land settings for all residents and groups.

That said, my only irritation, not necessarily personal, is when I am building and moving things around and someone unfamiliar drops in and wants to talk. I admit I once dropped a building on one on purpose. He TPd from somewhere in the middle of the concrete...
