Some women are feminists, some are gold diggers.

... and some are excessive gigglers.

What I really meant was that the OP seems unaware of the strides towards self-sufficiency that women have made in, ohhhhh, say the last 50 years? Surely you don't have to be a card-carrying "feminist" to have enough self-respect not to dangle yourself in public as sexual bait for any man willing to take a shot at "having" you????

Oh Scylla, Scylla, Scylla ... Girls just wanna have fun.
And sometimes you meet an intellectual whose read a book or two.

heard of "feminism"

It's common enough, that in many places virtual all semblance of modern feminism is rolled back by centuries.

Why?

I have no explanation, save that I know it be true, and that in fact some revel in it.

"Occupied in observing Mr. Bingley's attentions to her sister, Elizabeth was far from suspecting that she was herself becoming an object of some interest in the eyes of his friend. Mr. Darcy had at first scarcely allowed her to be pretty; he had looked at her without admiration at the ball; and when they next met, he looked at her only to criticise. But no sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she hardly had a good feature in her face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry in her form, he was forced to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy playfulness. Of this she was perfectly unaware; to her he was only the man who made himself agreeable nowhere, and who had not thought her handsome enough to dance with."

No, I am not seeking a BF *or* a husband.

Pep (thinks the OP is severely mixed up and recommends the use of a longer than usual barge pole.)

Too true. And if I thought SL were just a "game," I don't think I'd let it bother me so much. For some, I'm sure it is . . . and they leave such attitudes behind when they log off. For others, however . . .

Jane Austen causes me fits, as both a feminist and a book lover. She is so . . . WONDERFUL . . . that it's impossible not to adore her. At the same time, her attitudes drive me nuts sometimes. Not so much Pride and Prejudice, but Fanny in Mansfield Park, for instance. Or Emma's submission to Mr. Knightly. Ugh. (Yeah, ok, he IS kind of sexy, but STILL!!)

I suppose it's a bit much to expect a late 18th-century woman to brandish the attitudes of a 21st-century one, eh? :(

Do you need to be a "maiden" to be a "maid of honour"????

My guess is that maiden maids were actually pretty rare . . .

I think she'd be called a "Matron of Honour".

Oh, doubtless that deep in the bosom of every 18th century woman there was a dark, forbidden, unspoken desire for a jolly good and thorough brandishing...

To the OP: what the overall tone of the comments to this thread is trying to tell you is that an offhand forum post is probably not the most effective way to find romance in SL.

The best way to find romance in SL is to go to popular hangouts and dance clubs and similar places. Meet people and talk to them and let things unfold.

I have a friend who, when she used to spend time in SL, would dress up in nice gown and go sit in places like Frank's or the Cloud 9 ballroom or any other formal dance spot. She was constantly meeting men - in her case, maybe, more eager men than she wanted!

So try something like that, instead of a blanket forum post that, frankly, makes you look a little desperate and superficial.
