From: Cheyenne Marquez The point being, how are her efforts any different or less damaging ?
The only difference I can discern is that with ACS' efforts everyone is affected, whereas with the "old school" peddling and cheerleading only the newer designers were affected.
I'm not defending any particular opinion because some may argue that I go back far enough to be part of that "old school."
I am just calling it as I see it. okay Anshe is basically paying people to be professional content developers.. This would be a competitive change right there. All of a sudden a switch from part timers and hobbyists. (old or new doesnt matter) Furthermore she wants to sell that Content at FAR below the going rate. Which will hurt everyone thats not in some class of untouchable perceived value. Which means most everyone. Its totally seperate between a new content developers and old content designers rivalry. Also I dont believe Raymond specified only Old Designers for this thread. I think Posters are more than welcome to put New Designer names down. I see your point - A lot of forums' psoters are old school and dont know the new names. A lot of people in world are Dont know any of these names listed either but know newer ones like Last Call. When I wear something by Chip a lot of people go "Who?" That is actually a bad sign it means that some of the name recognition people are touting for older designers doesnt exist in the Real Secondlife and they are at a bigger risk of a market dump than they think.

I simply brought up a point. I am glad you see that point. As far as Anshe Chung is concerned, she doesn't phase me in the least. I can say this, one point in her statement certainly rings true. And that, in a nutshell, is ... ... If you want to sell your stuff, it better be worth buying.

As far as Anshe Chung is concerned, she doesn't phase me in the least. She phases me Having 50+ people on staff whose job it is developing content for second life and then selling it for 10L phases me a lot. If I have to sell my products for 10L I wont be able to cover my teir. I wasnt a big name Old School. Im certainly not a big name new school. Ill basically be stuck switching to 2D online catalog sales only, since it will only cost me a commission. Is what Dnate said - What content creator will I miss most? Me. Im pretty sure my situation is typical of a lot of small time content sellers. People who would barely be missed if we left ANYWAY. Surely wont be missed if were run out by Anshe Wall Mart.

From: Cheyenne Marquez Mr. Bracken Please, call me Brad. From: Cheyenne Marquez you are the one feeding that ego and thus empowering her. I don't necessarily feel she has the power. I'm not sure. I do admit this much attention probably does feed her ego. Point well taken. From: Cheyenne Marquez Would you or anyone else give me, or you, the same attention if we came out with this plan. I am pretty comfortable you, or they, would not.
If you posted that you have this type of plan in the forums you better believe there'd be a backlash. This much? I'm not sure, but there would be some. Simple fact is, however, it is vastly different when someone who does have the money and presumably more power than the rest of us does something. That gives them the advantage, obviously, and therefore would clearly be perceived as much more of a threat. From: Cheyenne Marquez Are you afraid of her? Because I certainly am not. Personally I am not. Am I afraid of the potential damage she could cause here in SL? Sure I am. I see this as the equivalent of Wal-Mart, which I have seen do much much damage throughout the US. As I said, I don't know if she will cause any permanent damage or not. I think what many here have said is likely and that is if her products glut the market then no one is going to want one any more than I care to be seen in some of the newbie outfits I use to wear. I originally posted by dancing around pointing fingers and naming names, but others chose to jump right in. My post where I named her was much more in response to those who stated they didn't know why there is an anti-Anshe sentiment more than having to do with what effects I think she may or may not have on the economy.

From: Hypatia Callisto I sell some things for 10 linden - I consider it almost free stuff which I use to decorate the floors of my shop, things I had given away in other games and so I stick to the tradition of keeping them inexpensive in here. I also have a totally free Minoan octopus vase which I could sell for quite a bit, and don't because it was originally a texture to a poser freebie I made. So again... it was free before, stays free in here.
Oddly enough... they're the worst performing sellers. There's really such a mindset that if something is too cheap, it must not be worth anything, and therefore, it doesn't sell. If you don't value your work at what it costs to create it - and I guarantee you that salaries will be more than 10 lindens even in China, neither will your buyers value it either.
By the way, there's a LOT of great artists out here in SL who don't charge an arm and a leg for their work - get out there and discover them. We know

Uhhh...what was the ORIGINAL question again???
Here I was all excited to read people's answers to some great creators so I could go check them out and within the first page it turned into a bunch of ranting.
Can you repost this question and please just respond to the question asked, I'd still love to read who people think are great creators here instead of hearing about the people that are NOT in any way harming or interferring with my RL so I don't sweat it one bit.
Lets pick our battles people.

From: Cheyenne Marquez I don't agree with what ACS is doing for the same reason I don't agree with the premise of this thread.
Do you for one minute not think that these types of threads, where the "old school" repeatedly takes to the forums promoting and cheer leading the same long time designers, many simply because they have been long time friends, or because they have benefited from having started and gained a reputation way back when the world had a max "online now" of 2000, does not cause the same type of harm to the newer, and often times. better designers in SL? Only if you stop reading after my post and no one else names their favorites. Name some of the newer creators you think deserve recognition. Your list or anyone else's is just as valid as mine.

I'm going to lock this... it's a little to personal, it's a little too trollish and it's a little too off-topic.
Action: Lock Source: AR Reasons: Private Discussion, Off-topic, Trolling
