Which creator would you miss the most?

When the L$10 products hit SL, I will be ignoring them. I think it's dirty business to undercut our creators like that.

In addition, I plan to use the most effective form of advertising, word of mouth, to champion and support the hard-working pixel artists who will be seeing their livelihoods threatened and their profits marginalized by these strong-arm tactics.

Please join me in talking up every creator whose products you enjoy and whose hard work and talents you appreciate. It would be a true shame if even one of them was forced out of business.

My current favorite creators whose creativity are rivalled only by their outstanding customer service:
Cory Edo-Incredible prefabs
Ace Albion and Parker M.-Gorgeous prefabs
Lord Humphrey-Stunning furniture and prefabs
Lilith and Dolly Heart-Best trees and plants in SL
Nimue Jewell-Pretty prim pinching furniture
Aral Levitt-All things tiki and beachy
Jake Cellardoor-Hummingbirds and frogs I can't live without

Who would you despair over if the L$10 plan forced them out of SL? Talk 'em up, here and everywhere!

I've thought a lot about this lately, and the way I look at it, Canimal is a bit more expensive than many of the other designers in SL. But I LOVE her work. It's highly detailed and I think it's well worth whatever she prices her products at. Another one of my all time favorites is Sythia Veil. I wear her clothes more than anyones. So even with a million 10L products on the market, I'd still buy from my favorites.
I hope Anshe doesn't have the impact she thinks she will on the economy, because I would hate to see my favorites lose there livelihood.


Oh and shamless plug here... I'm running a Blame it on AC $10L sale at my Nifty Fifty Stores. More for fun than anything. (But don't worry I don't have enough product to influence a fly, unlike Anshe =). )

Paul Lapointe of Lapointe & Bastchild Designs - Great clothes and excellent customer service and lots of great stuff for MEN!
Lilith and Dolly Heart of Heart Garden Center - Already mentioned for their excellent trees and plants but I had to mention again.

That being said. Please explain what's coming with the L$10 products. I'm not familiar with this.

Everyone is in a panic because Anshe says shes going to create a crap load of items and sell them for 10L so everyone is throwing a fit. Frankly I think she only said it to get exactly what she is getting right now.... Full attention. Shes a smart girl with a good head on her and knows how to get attention like this. Not to mention all this pissing and moaning about this is useless... If somebody wants to charge 10L for their stuff its their choice, if they want to give it away for free its their choice. Is it good if she does flood the market with 10L crap? No but there is nothing we can do about it. About the only thing you can do is lower your price to 10L as well and watch everybody just stop making crap because its not worth the time anymore which has been starting to happen anyway. Too many people have been pricing things way to low way before Anshe said anything about this 10L deal.

I'd hate to see all the new Japanese creators leave. Their stuff is innovative, fun, and different from a lot of what I've seen.

VooDoo has a point, too. I've seen a lot of stuff totally underpriced for what it is. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of crap that's overpriced; in this case the 10Linden store will take them down a notch.

One of the most misguided statements ever to appear on this forum. I hope the creators who work their butts off continue to ask fair prices for their creations.

It's called competition. Like it or not. This sort of thing happens in the real world all the time too. All your doing by going forum to forum with this stuff is giving her the attention she is after. Your making her name and 10L deal a household name without her even advertising.

Like I said... Like her or not shes a smart girl and is so far out smarting most of us.

Look at Walmart and many others. They make things cheep and it works. Does not mean you have to like it but its perfectly legal to set your own prices.

It boils down to this... If your product is top quality over hers then you have nothing to worry about.

Read the thread, read her posts...I don't know if panic is the word but people are angry and rightfully so. I can't say all the things I want to say without getting this thread locked.

I do want to thank Raymond for helping promote the excellent creators out there who I hope are not hurt by this.

What I think some people are underestimating is ...

The difference between what Anshe is doing and freebies and other cheap items is Anshe is paying people whose RL job it will be to come up with SL content.

They will be competing with part timers who do it as a hobby. While they will likely start out behind the curve on quality, logically they will not remain so.

At the same time Anshe will be dumping their creations on the market for 10L.

For those who make content, consider how much more you could accomplish if it were your full time job.

Thats the real danger as I see it. Its like trying to run a marathon against someone on a moped. You might have a head start - but they WILL catch up.

So unless yo are a true artist selling mainly to people who only buy true artwork, this probably is going to affect your bottom line when they get around to your industry.

True, but it only matters if she can get market saturation. It's incredibly hard to do that. SLX is useful, yes, but comprises how much of overall sales? And with other competing services, both existing and in the works, as well as inworld options, can she really corner any market? How much is it going to cost her, in rl dollars, to do that? 1M doesn't go all that far when you are talking about big business. If she gets it, I see this as a pyrrhic victory, at best.

Did not say it was illegal. Did not mention her in the OP. You mentioned her by name in this thread. If championing creators is stirring up crap in your mind, so be it.

Hope you are getting the free advertising you appear to love. Not seeing any other value in your posts here.

I seriously doubt this will be a problem and if it is it is just a matter of time till Anshe puts herself out of business. She can flood the market all she wants If she got 100% of SLs sales all the other designers would be out of business and there would be nobody to rent her land. Also if everything is 10L the value of L would drop to the point where she wouldnt make enough to pay anyone to make the stuff. After all who needs to buy L$ if you can buy 50 things a week just on a the money LL gives a paid account. I seriously doubt Anshe is so stupid as to not see this. She might try this and she might make enough to keep it going for a couple months but in the end it is self defeating.
Just do what this thread says and tell your friends about your favorite creators and word of mouth will take care of the problem and dont buy 10L Items.
As for me I dont buy anything i make all my own stuff and I build and creat for fun. But there are too many people out there to mention just a few is a disservice to all the others. Explore...have fun and if you see something that you like buy it and support all the creators in SL. Consider your L$ a way to tell the creator you like what they did.

Well said, Indy. And you are right, there are too many talented creators to mention. My list was just my personal faves. And one of the reasons is I have recieved excellent customer service from every single person I mentioned. I wonder if you get that with your L$10 purchase?
