Sure, but about different stuff: work, and video games, and sports, and hobbies, and bitching about women are all totally valid topics. Complimenting appearance is restricted to "that beard works on you, man", "aww, I didn't bother shaving over the long weekend", "really, you totally gotta keep it", "ok".

I have a "working alt" along the same line as Lear's - testing animations and perms and a useful group member, but I did spend some money and make her attractive to myself.

On the rare occasions that I've taken her out, the clear trend that appeared is that she gets hit on by women. Not a lot (her appearance is not flashy and I try not to be flirty with her unless someone else starts in first and it seems like harmless fun), but enough to notice.

Of course I have no way of knowing who's behind the keyboard in those cases, but I found it interesting all the same. Maybe things would be different if I played with the shape sliders some and found the magical "bombshell with huge knockers and a 20 inch waist" settings. But what would be the fun in that?

OMG, this is soooo true. I couldn't count the number of guys I've had to say/hint/suggest/imply that to. A couple have had the reply of asking for my help, which is cool, but also pretty rare. Assistance gladly given if I think it matters to them, cuz I'm not fooled by the "ok I got one new item, now do me" routine.

Pep I hope you begin your thread about your 'other av' experiences. I very much do want to hear about it, and I think those are all good things to examine.

It's not as cold or stereotyped as that, really, but there seems to be a distancing effect for bucks as compared to does, there's probably a good hundred books about why. Some even agree with each other.

I have never seen Briana inworld, so I dont know what she looks like, she sure is known here in the forums I have a piercing myself, nose. But I also wear a nose piercing in rl, just a small stud, so it seemed natural for me to have one as well in SL. I also find piercings attractive.

It's so interesting to me to speculate on the reasons behind these kinds of experiences, and I'd love to be able to make some sense out of it, but the whole thing is hopelessly complicated by the fact that we don't know if it's RL males or females doing the "hitting on" (or not), and of course I sort of taint my own data in the first place being a man posing (albeit very occasionally) as a woman myself.

So the whole thing gets a big *shrug* as to what it means. Still fun to talk and share experiences though

I know you said 'in general' and these are all personal experiences. I don't know that a scientific study of gender-based experiences/differences even exists, for SL (or even RL on a large scale.)

But, I can say that I do say hi to almost everyone, and if I don't it's usually because I have too many IM open or am shopping or surfing the 'net or other things like that.

I also wanted to say that I don't think women expect men to 'entertain' them but that they may hesitate to say 'hi' to every male because so often it's misconstrued as 'wanting to do the sexxx.' In RL and in SL both. So it may depend how much energy/patience they have, that day, for fending off the av in the system hair, chalk-drawn skin and bling.

That does happen fairly often (or even without saying hi, or even without leaving SL home lol) and it may be a factor. Some guys interpret any approach as an 'invitation.'
