From: Mistic Foxtrot Interesting thread, there are lots of creative names. I am not very good when it comes to thinking of names so it took me a long a while to come up with my store name. One night when I was not even thinking about the name it came to me while watching TV. I came up with the name “ThisNThat” with the slogan A little of “ThisNThat” for everyone! Because the store I am in the process of opening will be selling a little of everything from cutom skins, clothing to houses. edit - BTW this is my first post here I have been here since Sept reading the forums but never posted till now. welcome aboard I like the name, sounds fitting (and sounds like my store LOL)

My store started out as Ends & Odds (my group name is still that) when I first starting making things. As I went more into girlie fashion, a friend told me the name didn't really fit any more. So I just used my first name in SL (which some think is kinda cute). Now I have E&O and Snickers. The guy stuff is under E&O. Too bad XStreet doesn't allow you to brand the way that OnRez did.

My first store name was BGD or Bree Giffen Designs. Well it wasn't much of a store since I was only selling things on slx. About a year later I decided to open a store in-world. I had very specific requirements for the name too. It had to be one word. It couldn't contain things like hyphens, apostrophes, or numbers. It couldn't be a generic name. It had to be something almost like a proper noun. It also couldn't refer to specific products since I knew that I might start selling other stuff besides shoes. I looked at some animal names and then I looked at plant names and found one that I liked. Then I checked if there was any prior use of the name in SL. At the time there was only one plant being sold in SL with that name and nothing else. Then I played around with making a sign and came out with one that had red and green like the plant. And that's how Heliconia was named.

possibly n&b could refer to nina & briana as well. the sim, ninbriana, could also be a reference to nina & briana. From: Briana Dawson N&B Exports
- It sounds, to me, like an Export/Import place and lots of furniture places that are warehouse like are export businesses.

I have a business name and even a dedicated alt account set up to run it. Unfortunately I'm such a slacker about building a product line that I sometimes wonder if I will ever get it off the ground. Part of the problem is that I would like to set up the shop as a kind of RP thing where customers might be just as happy spending some time in the place as finding a product they actually want. The concept is kind of self-defeating in that sales would be a low priority despite the fact they are also something of a necessity. I used to like that kind of establishment in RL: a grubby little shoe shop or hardware store run by some old fella who just wanted to drink his tea and read the morning tabloids. Unfortunately they seem to be few and far between these days. I wonder why?

I use the name 'Egotherapy' as an overall theme name for my activities in SL. My home is at the Egotherapy Centre in Yosu sim, while Egotherapy Land Holdings owns the land it stands on. My products don't have a brand name as such, although some have product names. They are just 'made by Conifer Dada' There's a story to how I chose the Egotherapy name. When I was starting out building, soon after I came to SL, I had just finished my first biggish structure and had discovered texturing, so I was feeling quite pleased with myself. So I made a texture to go on a big billboard on the side of the building. It was the first texture I made, and it said 'Conifer Dada's Egotherapy Centre' in bold black letters on an orange background. I even searched the net to see if anyone else had used the word egotherapy beforehand - apart from a Spanish company and the name of a music album, I could find nothing else.

Karmakanix, which I flagrantly stole from a Jeff Noon novel ('Vurt', I think). It might be spelled slightly differently in the original where it actually is the name of a car mechanic business. It stuck in my mind from the first time I read the book well over ten years ago,so I thought it might do the same for me. I don't fix, or build cars, and I aren't able to repair your karma. I just like the name. And just as importantly, I like the way it forms an instant logo: PS I'd really like there to be a market for buying and selling new and used protective equipment, just so I could create an avatar called Joan and set up... Joan's Armour Trading!

The name is self-explanatory... I wanted to use the word "International" in the name so it would show up in Search. The logo represents a time before international cultures... when we were all just cavemen... and of course a "cave painting" of an Oryx. This is an advert that I designed a while ago.

When I started my furniture business I focused on Indonesian inspired stuff. Kampung Sampireun is a resort that I found rather impressive when I visited Java, hence the name Sampireun Design. When I changed the focus from Indonesian to Low Prim, I did not want to change the brand name, and I still like it When I started the plants shop I have had a chat with Ama, and she came up with the name if I remember well. I liked it so kept it

on names and why ...
05-11-2009 04:34
OK, a brief and boring history of business names. We started out with a James Bond themed club - a place where 00 agents might feel at home, so "Double 0s" lent itself obviously to the task.
Phase two was a store to go with it, a place where 00 agents might go to equip themselves (even if it was only clothing). Well, obviously "Q Branch" was the name that came to mind.
At this point, we were on a roll with names, so when we scaled up again from club and shop to a sim wide theme park, we couldn't resist calling it "Carnivale Royale". Now I'll be honest, we then got a little carried away with the naming of some of the individual rides - "The Thunderball" and "The Moonraker" were kinda appropriate for fairground rides, but I'll be the first to admit that "A View To A Thrill" (for an observation needle) and "Live and Let Slide" (for an extremely high water slide) were a little OTT. Not to mention "Quantum Of Solace" for a small area with cuddle seats, trees, a lake and calmness .... But hey, we had fun with it.
As for the fashion house, well, you've got to know that my SL partner, who is also my RL soon-to-be wife is one of the firiest, red, redheads I've ever met. So, we called the fashion house "Inis Rua" - which roughly translates out of Gaelic as "Isle of a Red-headed Woman". Say it outloud, you'll get the idea ..... lol
Anyway, all that is what was - we had fun, but we've got plans for the next lot ... watch this space.
Edited to add:
Incidentally, fun thread - thank you so much OP

Deerest Desires. My name made that an obvious wordplay on dearest desires. The logo I made is also a play on my name. A heart with antlers. The antlers referring to deer, and the heart referring to dear. There is another link in the Dutch language: the Dutch word for heart is hart. In old times the Dutch word hart also meant deer. Deer in Dutch is now hert instead of hart, so I suppose that even most Dutch people won't get this - but at least I know for myself. If I now only would have time to make some more products to stock my shop with that would be great.

Ours is called Sacred Heart Weddings. The church Will built for wedding is based one of the most well known religious entities in the Catholic church. We get quite a few Catholics at our sim to see his build.

My store is called Flowers Candles Romance and it's located on a sim called Romance Cove. When I decided to open a store, I thought I'd only stick with it if I built things I love in RL hence the flowers and candles part of the name. I added the Romance because that's a very popular thing in SL and thought it might generate some traffic.

v7-D version Seven Designs Void Singer
it implies what I (and my cohorts) do (programming), it shares my initials, and compresses nicely to fit with Product names...it's not the company name, but rather the trademark

i chose jojo's Folly when i started with a very small furniture and decor resale shop because i thought i was nuts to try to have a biz in sl. i also chose it so that i could sell or do whatever i wanted without changing the name..should i decide to branch into clothing etc. over time i moved into original creations for home decor and furniture and the name has stuck.

My store is called Improbe Amor Designs. It means Depravity of Love, which was perfect when i started because I made gothic furniture and artwork. Now I'm not so sure because I'm starting to spread out into more low prim furniture and jewelry. I'm taking a break from sl soon so I might just re-brand whenever I come back.
