You see so many unique business and club names in SL it got me curious today of why people chose the name they did.
For me?...
My store is called ~Captive Beauty~ and the reason I chose that name was because I deal in the BDSM lifestyle sales and see the beauty in someone submitting themselfs to you. And ofcourse you have all the lovely cuffs and collars and plethera of restraint types so hence ~Captive Beauty~

I did have it as C.I.C Creative Innovative Concepts which was what i got from sitting and trying to think of a name.. it sounded too cold and commercial to me and i was never happy with it.. one day i was working on a build and got into one of those zones where the ideas just keep pouring in.. a song came on the station i was listening to from the temptations.. Just my imagination.. soon as i heard it the back of my neck tingled..that's always a sign that something is a fit for me..even when i'm shopping for clothes i don't really buy unless my neck tingles lol..So right away i jumped into Photoshop while it was still fresh in my mind and made the logo.

My store is called Baby Monkey, because the Christmas before I opened it I gave my husband a stuffed (toy!) baby monkey in his stocking. Also, baby monkeys are cute!

N&B Exports
- It sounds, to me, like an Export/Import place and lots of furniture places that are warehouse like are export businesses.

It's creative and memorable, and yet relevant to your product and customer base. Mine is called Transgressions, and I sell posters of erotic (but not hardcore) photographs of transgender women. The name incorporates the "trans" from transgender, and invokes a feeling of forbidden pleasure, which, as we all know, is the best kind of pleasure.

Dari's Haus, Odds, Ends, and Stuff. A lot of people think I'm German because of the spelling of Haus, but I picked it because I liked the European flavor it gave the name I originally intended to sell a wide range of things, but kinda got sidetracked into one genre. Overall it just seemed logical.

"Prim Savers" for three reasons:-
1. Because (I think) it's easy to remember.
2. Because saving on prims is my speciality (low prim stuff).
3. Because I'm hopeless at thinking up a good name for a business.

Everything I sell is sold under the name Thin Mick Designs, which was kind of a joke. I'm thin as a noodle and very Irish, and I had some friends who used to call me Thin Mick. I dunno, it was funny to me. It's probably offensive to someone.
I'm also (ir)responsible for Incidental Radio, now no longer a station, and more of a one night a week club. That one was because I was never the DJ on purpose, at parties, but someone would decide that a DJ was needed, and it would almost inevitably be me... Like that one time, at that wedding in North Carolina... I don't know how I got away with playing Front Line Assembly at a redneck wedding, but it was the best of what I had on hand.

La Bicyclette was my original business name, as I started out making Victorian bicycles and Victorian activewear in the Caledon sims. Women's rights got something of a boost in the 1890s what with the increasing popularity of the bicycle--they could range farther afield with ease, and the cycle gave them a handy excuse for wearing (relatively) non-confining clothes. I went with the French name, despite the fact that mon francaise est tres mauvais, partially because I had just gotten back from a summer living in Paris, and also because "la bicyclette" is more archaic than "le velo"*. It's also feminine Unfortunately, this created branding issues when I moved onto horses. For me, it made sense (I needed a proper Victorian sidesaddle horsie to go with my riding habit!), but I don't think the average customer drops by a bicycle shop looking for a four hoofed friend. So I changed the shop name to "Cheval Verite"*, which was a play on "Cinema Verite". It fit with my aesthetic of trying to create horses that looked like actual horses. But like the cinema, it's all virtual. Well, it all made sense at the time! Of course, now I've made other critters as well, and I'm beginning to wonder if "Cheval" was a mistake . "Animal Verite" just doesn't have the same ring, though. *for the record, I always forget the macros that allow for ascenders, cedilles, etc...

Hehe.... I started with a shapes shop ages ago called 'Feminine Forms' It just seemed to flow nicely. But then I started doing male shapes too.....so I had to re-think that name and came up with 'House of Body' which just sounded kind of funky and Zen like. I chose an Asian theme for the shop intially. But....the shapes biz was just too low end. Too many folks learning too rapidly how to do their own and I let it drop and just did custom jobs here and there. Now I have my gallery which is sort of obvious as it is named after my mom who's paintings are displayed there. But.....as timing would have it .... as soon as I get some skins perfected I will work on my logo. I came up with ~Sabijha~ for the name. It has a history is that Sabijha is a character I developed a while back in a sort of mildly erotic fairy tale I wrote. I never did bring Sabijha out into the world as I am terrible at finishing things.....probably because way too many 'begin' in my head for me to keep up with. But.....the name Sabijha just sort of popped into my head one day......and then I started writing about her.....and she turned into this heroine of sorts....So....I like the name....it's sort of exotic and elicits maybe a bit of fantasy....and there it is. That's what my skin line will be called.

RAGE Fighting Championships RAGE Championship Boxing RAGE Wear pro shop
RAGE is a combat sports brand I created about a year and a half ago. I used the word RAGE because it's short and catchy...easy to say...and it is provocative and in your face. It also means "passion" as well, which strikes a chord in anyone who fights or follows any combat sport as a fan.

People used to ask how I bought land so quickly and I'd tell them I was fast and silent like a ninja... a land ninja.
And then I just went from there.

Feather My Nest is our aviary. I thought the name "fit", as people are using our birds to enhance their environments--or "feather" their "nests". It just sounded better than Ari and Mick's Bird Store. My Victorian store I named Romance Remembered. I've always had a fascination with the Victorian era--to me, just wildly "romantic". Revisiting that time and honoring it in the form of numerous creations just naturally led to "Romance Remembered." (Though I swear I'm not 'remembering' it first hand...I'm not THAT old...lol. My partner though...well.... )

My main business is "Fox and Ground Construction Company". In-world I am most often an anthropomorphic lady fox, and I am doing terraforming and building. In thinking about associations with foxes, the old British pub name "Fox and Hound" came to mind. (My original ad for Fox and Ground Construction Co.) I don't have a seperate business name for my texture sales, as I sell all my textures through Textures-R-Us, as an associated texture artist. I also used to have "Ceera's Foxy Fashions" when I started making t-shirts, "Ceera's Fashion Originals" when I started expanding into nice dresses and accessories, and "Ceera's Creations" when I tried to add furniture sales. I've closed all those businesses now, to focus on my texture making and sim building.

Interesting thread.
I had a content creation company in SL from 2005 through 2008 called "West Trade Imports" ~ this was going to be the name of an actual offshore (to me) company I was looking to set up in Hong Kong.
In first life I have products made in China, which comes to the United States and then goes back out to whomever needs it. Well, it was stupid to fly stuff from Southern China to California and then back to Sydney for example, so I was thinking of a tiny company in Hong Kong just to stock/ship inventory, and also looking maybe to capture a bit more of the asian market with my stuff.
As it turned out, sales volumes weren't quite worth it, and I *still* inefficiently move stuff from China -> USA -> global. The name West Trade Imports was on my mind, so it got used for SL instead.
