Alt personnas (Part 2)

I hope no one minds me keeping this seperate from my other alt thread but I wanted to ask...

7 I can think of...only 2 of which I may use more than once every couple of months - most, if not all, of the others are forgotten and likely deleted.

For an Alt Orgy
To keep a group in place without having to rely on another person
Needed a willing participant for testing poses - someone who would not get bored
To explore other possibilities in behavior
I was bored with my current name and wanted to try another (a couple of times)
Wanted to see if girl AV's really do get hit on as much as ladies complain about

...and that's what I'm willing to admit to.

I have 5 accounts, if you count my main. So there's Me...and 4 alts.

Alt one was made for business purposes originally, but quickly devolved into a way for me to mess with my kids.

Alt two was made strictly for role playing purposes, as I didn't want my in world hobby to affect and intermix with my in world life. Plus, his name is much more suited to the character than mine.

Alt three was made because a certain last name became available and in a fit of sleep deprivation and boredom I convinced myself that I had to make an account based off a character with that last name.

Alt four was created because in a fit of sleep deprivation and boredom, I misspelled Alt Three's first name.

My alt was initially created to help me learn poseball setup and how to set permissions on items for different purposes. Since then I sometimes use my alt to check out different types of role playing that I have an interest in.

I have 7 accounts! My second account was this one, and I created it when I decided to take expand my zoned communities in early 2005 - the plan was to use this to sort out land related stuffs, and keep my main account for everything else. However, the communities really took off, took up all my time, and so Hiro soon became my main. The next two I created simply to make up numbers for land-holding groups, and were used for nothing else. Last year I created two more accounts simply because surnames came up that I liked - these have barely been used, except to test perms, etc. I recently created another account - a kind of hermit avatar so that I can build with out any distractions - this is the one I now use the most.

I've never used accounts to deceive anyone (and all but my building av are 'out there' as being my alts for anyone who really wanted to know); I've either used them for practical purposes, such as group holding, or to be able to build without distractions.

I have three accounts, one main (me) and two alts, all premium. The two alts are used for:

Being different people:
Ava is the real me, so goes barefoot and wears her ratty jeans and tie dye shirt most of the time. One alt is a supermodel (in the RP sense, not actually a working SL model), whose main purpose is to be the dress-up barbie doll. Bad-ass barbie doll, for that matter. The other alt is a shapeshifter goddess who contains many souls within her... basically so I don't have to keep creating new alts for each new personality.

Testing:
For those times when you need another account's perspective. Testing permissions, SL bugs, and so on.

Group stability:
Groups are dissolved automatically if they don't have at least two people. Like many people I keep my land deeded to a land group, which includes my alts so I never have to worry about the group disbanding and forfeiting my land.

Tier balancing:
When I own a large amount of land, but that is just a little over a tier level, I use an alt to contribute a smaller and cheaper amount of tier. So if I own just 1m over the 1/2 sim tier, I would normally pay the full sim price, which is $70 more than a 1/2 sim. But if have an alt contribute a 512 tier, then my extra cost is only $5.

Incognito:
On occasions where I want to slip into SL quickly without having to deal with IMs I know are waiting for me or people who might be looking for me, I just send an alt in. I do this a lot when helping people here on the forums... it never fails if I send Ava in to check the exact wording of a menu item, suddenly a friend I haven't heard from in a while wants to get all caught up.

I think that's pretty much it. All in all they have been very useful.

I only have one alt. The purpose of the alt is to back up my inventory of personally created builds and textures as suggested by LL. It has suited other purposes as well. The occassional ability to log on when my premium account won't so I can communicate my whereabouts with my SL friends. Pose stand model for creation of wearable prim items, which sometimes require shape changes I personally would find tedious to shift between. This allows me to tp away if needed and leave it standing there in wait for my return at leisure so I'm not stuck on a pose stand.

As it stands in my home it acts as a third eye to eject the constant string of intruders who seem to use my home while I'm away (a previous renter added a landmark in his picks that teleports visitors directly into my home and though I've lived there since the creation of my primary account, 3 months, has failed to remove the pick as requested several times). I know nothing can be stolen, but my privacy is nonexistent.

The role may soon be extended after reading others replies, I had planned to open a shop sometime and it does make since to be able to seperate business and personal ventures. It'd become quite annoying to log onto capped IM's and miss messages from close friends.

The alt orgy is out of the question, but Mr.Abel may be onto something there, afterall, you can't love someone else until you love yourself ;p

There was me. The me explored being other-gender-me, so eventually I got an alt, and tried that for awhile, but hardly ever do anymore. Then I went to a halloween party in SL, and made an alt for that. I started using that one a lot when I was feeling grumpy and wanted to hide out.

Me is premium, one alt I paid 10 bucks for, and the other is a freebie.

In my back pocket, I have one I made for a friend, but she didn't like SL.

In SL, almost all my friends are female avatars. Not sure why.

I don't have an alt - I didn't realise so many people had them!

Can you log them both in at the same time?

Yes - as long as your computer can handle running the client twice -- heck of a load. I don't log both myself and my alt in together very often. SL is slow enough without my help.

I have one alt, who has no friends!! I basically use my alt account when i want to get away from all the dramas surrounding my first account, and all the conversations, when i want to go incognito and just wander!! When I'm not in a chatty mood, but still want to browse SL

ahh, you see that never really crossed my mind but that's a nice idea; I have a friend who always want to TP me to her when I come online and sometimes I'm just not in the mood, so I might give an alt some thought!

I had three paid accounts that dwindled down to zero. I just downgraded them instead of deleting them because they have inventory that I am too stingy to let go. I only use my main avatar (Tana) but still ended up with two alts I dont use. I downgraded because of the monopolies controlling land prices.

By the way, You might say this post is an alt to the first thread. *smile*

I have one alt that I created primarily for keeping a group open. It also has only my very closest friends in its list so I can focus on whatever work I may be doing without the steady stream of IMs my main gets.

I also use it for testing permissions. It has both male and female shapes for sizing furniture and such though I have not built very much of that. For the most part, I rarely log on with it anymore.

I have three premium alts.

Anderson Albion- my male alt, used purely for creating love poses. The poor dear lives only to serve, hehe.

Tamiasciurus Kipling - also created for pose creating, also so I could increse my tier a little bit. As she is premium, paid by the year, and gets the old L$500 a week stipend, she was the cheapest option to get the extra 400m of land I needed at the time.

Elgyfu Fujin - at the time I created her I owned 95% of the Fujin sim - so I wanted the surname! I was going to use her as a business alt, but never really did.

These three now only ever get logged on every few weeks so I can mug them for their stipend.

I also have two free ones...
FuFu Fujin- again, I wanted the name. She is a furry- a fennec fox.
Another who has my real life name - because I just HAD to have that.

I don't play any of them but use them now and again for testing perms etc.

Two are other versions of Ceera, with different surnames. My Partner and I couldn't change either of our surnames to match, but when "Kitsune" became available, we both got alts that had the "Kitsune" surname. Later, when "Ninetails" became available, we did it again, since she already *is* a nine-tailed Kitsune, and so our household name could easily be "Ninetails" - and I will eventually gain more tails myself (having three now).

Unfortunately, since non-transferrable assets can't be given to one's alts, it has been impractical to switch over entirely to the matching accounts. So we only use them for roleplay, where the matching names might matter more.

Two of my alts serve to help secure groups, and give me a 'second perspective' when building. I can have one set of eyes on the ground and another in the sky, for example, looking at the same project. They also are used to test permissions on items that I sell.

The rest are just roleplaying. Retainers and "family members" that can show up to flesh out a roileplaying scenario.

Besides me, there's Rhian Jenkins, the alt that I just had to create as this particular last name became available (an old RPG character of mine...and a proud Welsh girl), who, apart from that, looks like a stick insect. She is also used for testing purposes, whatever comes up...she's premium, too , and has her own plot of land. I also have a basic alt, called Samira Saeed (like the singer) who is a dark-skinned Middle Eastern alternate me. I wish I could have my RL name, but as my last name is very rare even in Germany, I don't see a chance for that. I also sometimes borrow my mom's account, as she rarely plays-called Majan Maktoum. When played by my mom, it's a rotund little lady, when I (ab)use him, he's a moody emo goth guy....
