From: Trout Recreant Why am I your guinea pig!? /me eye's Gabriele suspiciously...there's lots of explosives in the Troutlab. If one thing goes wrong with this move, the nearest 18 regions could go black FOREVER. What are you up to mon petit undead amor? OK. Kidding. I'll move a few boxes first, then give 'er a go and see what happens. hahaha you will never know my secret plans muhahaha - actually why would I waste so much succulent blood by exploding it? Let us know what happens, I would glad to be wrong in this case because the other way is so tedious and I often wished it was that easy

Thanks so much Ann and Gabrielle for this advice. I have the same issue... too much stuff! When I built my platform the sky was empty. I get pretty annoyed with my neighbors, so many of whom chose to rez their sky dwellings just over mine. My other issue though, is how ugly the sky is up at the heights being discussed. It's not a pretty blue, and it fades into a line of black. Is it that way for everyone? Or just my graphics?

Very welcome I get a nice blue really high and lower down I get Windlight - it probably depends on your graphics drivers and what settings you use.

Have everything set on or close to max, I get windlight at all altitudes. Above 1000m there's only a cloudy void below me of course, but the sky is still the same pretty one.

Actually you are right - though there are times for some reason when this fails and shows just a light blue but only in daylight settings. I usually have midnight settings all the time. I do have all my settings near or at max too though.

From: Maya Remblai If I had a good porter that could go to max build height I'd move up, but I have yet to find one. Any suggestions? Use an LM to TP? (And attach yourself to a prim, repositioning yourself by the numbers from the build menu, in order to position your build initially?) This might or might not work for those using older viewer builds, though, as has been stated.

From: Conifer Dada I put on my jetpack, safety suit and crash helmet and went to check out the skies in my locality at around 1000m. I recently moved my sky platform up to 900m because a huge black box had appeared next to it when it was at 600m. I jetpacked across loads of sims but there were hardly any structures at 1000m. I also did a smaller fly-round at 3000m - same story. I wonder if residents in general are unaware (apart from us on the forum, of course!) that you can build at up to 4096m altitude. If people moved things up above 1000m they would not be visible from the ground even at maximum draw-distance. My sky platform was visible from the ground at altitude 600m at max DD, even though it was over 512m up and the ground level is only 20m above sea level! Shhhhh Conifer! Now they will all move those big black boxes higher!

From: Ponsonby Low But all I've ever seen (by coincidence? or because they are far more common?) are the big black box-types. They might be nice inside, but clearly the creators didn't care squat about the impact on the neighborhood. And do you know what the surroundings looked like when the build was originally made? My first guess on these builds is that they are mostly first building exercises by residents who got a "good deal" on land because their lot started out in the middle of an especially ugly ad farm. It stays that way because they probably stopped entering SL months and months ago and didn't think to either sell or abandon the land. Or, they got so sick of camming their external surroundings that they just stopped ever looking outside their own build's walls. The main time I spend in mainland is in a sim where I foolishly wound up becoming the main owner. The neighboring regions frequently have such builds though, and usually they're right in the middle of the worst of the ad farms. And most of these builds do not seem to have anyone visiting them on any kind of regular basis. Occasionally they do become maintenance land though.

From: Gabriele Graves Hmmm I was sure that was not the case - has it changed as some point? because there was definitely a time when this did not work like that. Due to that when I move unlinked items I am always careful to use the arrows and not type in the coords. Believe me that is a pain and I would not have learned to do it that way without good reason. I build stuff all the time too so its not like I hardly use the tools. Trout to be sure I would check, rez 4 boxes on the ground, select them all and change the height - if it works then great and I am wrong If not then you just avoided moving something out of place. Well, I just gave this a whirl using both 1.20.15 and 1.21.2. I rezed 4 cubes, selected them one at a time using shift+click and then used the Z position spinner to move them up 2 meters. By that method, only the last cube selected moved up while the other three remained where they were. So, as far as I can see, this hasn't changed from the way Gabriele described it. And it has been this way, for me, for as long as I've been building, nearly 2 years now.

I was just coming in to report the same thing. I rezzed a handful of cubes, selected them all without linking and then changed the Z value. Only one moved.

Often you cannot link everything for various reasons not least of which some items are no modify and you just cannot link them.

This might or might not work for those using older viewer builds, though, as has been stated. Ok, I tested this tonight: I'm using the 1.18.5.3 viewer with the Nicholaz BE-w. My home is 1000 m high. I set a lm there (normally went there using the HOME option), went to ground level, then clicked the lm and ~voila!~ was back home.

From: Czari Zenovka Ok, I tested this tonight:

I set a lm there (normally went there using the HOME option), went to ground level, then clicked the lm and ~voila!~ was back home. Despite using the older base build (1.18.5.3), Nicholaz BE-w *does* have a 'selling point' (inasmuch as a free thing can have a selling point!) of the following, taken from the site page itself: From: someone There were no reports of adverse effects with BE-xw, so I'm calling it a good release. It is based on an old Linden version and you can see the glorious details in the change log. Main point is that it allows building and teleporting to up to 4096m and separates settings from the Eye Candy versions (you may want to copy settings_nicholaz.xml to settings_nicholaz_BE.xml). So teleporting up to 4096m using BE-w would have worked anyway, whereas it wouldn't have been possible using the base build (1.18.5.3) alone. From: Maya Remblai My sky platforms (I have two) are below 768 because I use Omega teleporters, which can't go any higher. If I had a good porter that could go to max build height I'd move up, but I have yet to find one. Any suggestions?
the teleport built into my freebie AO goes all the way to 4096. Search for my name on onrez or SLX. Yes, it is preloaded with male anims, but it's easy to replace them with the content of your favorite AO. there's a free female-preloaded one on onrez and slx made by a friend of mine, search for "TPZHAO" to find it.
