Skies still empty above 768m.

I put on my jetpack, safety suit and crash helmet and went to check out the skies in my locality at around 1000m. I recently moved my sky platform up to 900m because a huge black box had appeared next to it when it was at 600m. I jetpacked across loads of sims but there were hardly any structures at 1000m. I also did a smaller fly-round at 3000m - same story. I wonder if residents in general are unaware (apart from us on the forum, of course!) that you can build at up to 4096m altitude. If people moved things up above 1000m they would not be visible from the ground even at maximum draw-distance. My sky platform was visible from the ground at altitude 600m at max DD, even though it was over 512m up and the ground level is only 20m above sea level!

Great to hear...it's grown quite crowded around my skybox and I'm planning to head upwards. Just don't want *all* the neighbours reading this and knowing they can go higher too.

I think a lot of folks also have teleporters that don't go above 768 or 1048 (most limited the number of Warppos jumps to keep from blowing the script stack, and didn't use the nested-loop structure that is now common). .

Hmmmm............you should come to my neck of the woods. Also, the reason I think a lot of people don't put skyboxes and builds about 768 meters is that they are still using the 1.19 viewer.............I know that's why I haven't done so.

My sky platforms (I have two) are below 768 because I use Omega teleporters, which can't go any higher. If I had a good porter that could go to max build height I'd move up, but I have yet to find one. Any suggestions? Though to be honest, I'd probably still keep the stack order...it's kind of funny to jump off the edge of my floating island and land on Jupiter.

I had a skybox up at the max height for a while just after the new build height was introduced. It was nice and empty, but after a while I found that I missed the "grounding" effect of being able to see ground/ocean beneath me (however fuzzily) - above 1000m, any hint of ground goes away and you're just floating in an endless sky. Which is pretty in its way, but I like being able to see the glints of sunlight reflecting off the distant ocean, so I moved down to around 400m. There are a few other builds around at that height but not a lot, and no passing traffic at all. So it still feels nicely private, but not totally remote from the rest of the world.

Nicholaz retrofitted his viewers for this back to the 1.18.5.3 version.

Gosh, I've got stuff all over the sky. I think my small platform is at 500 and my lot-sized building platform at 1000. My actual home is higher still, around 3000, and while my draw distance is pathetically low I'm not seeing neighbors at any of those heights.
Truth be told, I like it that way.

Lack of a decent TP system to get up that high is the main barrier. I played around with a little building up there, but since the only way I had to get up to the high builds was to use a rather slow sit-elevator, I put off other development until a decent long-range TP that can reach 4096 reliably is on the market.
Anyone know of a decent and fast TP system for getting to 4096 M from anywhere in a sim?

I know it's a tad more risky, since it involves actual teleporting (black screen and 'whoosh') rather than scripted (sit on something and whiz through the air) teleporting, but I just have multiple LMs set for my various heights of build, with an exclamation mark and a couple of spaces at the start to throw them to the top of the LM list in map view. Example:
! Home (Parcel1Name) - Store ! Home (Parcel1Name) - Building Platform ! Home (Parcel2Name) - Stardome
Etc etc.

My sky platform/home is at 4000m. I've another platform at about 1000m. I almost never see my ground anymore. If I need to go down there in a hurry, I rez a block, sit on it and set the Z-coord. Not elegant, but does the job.

I got my Lounge's rooms up at about 1200+ =) Keeps it fairly quiet and calm.. lol. Just don't fall! I use a Local Teleporter that goes by SLurl so the height doesn't affect it, and is just as easy to use.

What I'd love to know is: what's the psychology behind wanting a floating build that's only 30m or so up?
Clearly these people are not after privacy---anyone can cam in.
So...why are there so many of these ugly things littering the Mainland?

From: Ceera Murakami Anyone know of a decent and fast TP system for getting to 4096 M from anywhere in a sim? I love my Fnordian Multiporter, which nicely handles my 2500 altitude. Was 1200 until recently, but then a neighbor showed up within 250m, in a box very suspiciously resembling my own, and I decided to move up a bit.

Well, I don't mean to cast aspersions on those who are enjoying what they are enjoying, because that's the essence of Mainland, after all.
I just don't see the appeal of the really low floating builds, though.
If I make a skybox I'd want it to be low enough to be able to see land and water, sure. It would feel more 'real' that way, I guess. So maybe that's part of what's behind the extremely low-lying skyboxes.
But personally, I wouldn't get any joy out of knowing I was impacting the ordinary-line-of-sight of people walking around on the land. And I guess that if that particular aspect was the MAIN motivation of some particular person, I'd tend to suspect that that person was sort of jerk-like, to some extent.
Though I could be wrong.

If a sky build is done well it adds to the overall fantasy feel of mainland I think. Crap would be crap whereever you place it in my opinion.

Tali gave two scrpits for tping to a higher altitude. I think the first one got broken by an RC update but the other one still works. /327/ee/273982/1.htmlI bought a different one on slex and it teleports you quickly too. I don't remember what the name was though. I think there are several available.

For the record (relating to my original post), I actually live at ground level in an apartment upstairs at the Egotherapy Centre. I have my platform, for making stuff and testing, up at 900m. Suspended beneath the sky platform is my chillout clubhouse!

I have a sky platform up at 2500m I have no issues building up this high. When I go to check other sims, I can hover at 2501m and do my sim scans if people are having issues. FPS are always a plus! No laggy textures to drag you down Plus I am using Second Life 1.20.15
