I've searched. Maybe I'm using the wrong keywords to find my answer. How does one add their business to be able to be part of the search function in world?

Hi Lestat.
When standing on your property, look up at the toolbar and choose world, then about land. Then pick the options tab and check the show in search box. It will cost about L$30 a week. _____________________

Get your friend to section off a small parcel of land under your attic store. You can then name that plot, add an image to advertise the plot and set a landing point...and of course add it to 'search'

Standard practice seems to be fill your parcel up with bots, pay people for listings in their picks and have lots of keywords that bear no relationship to what is on the parcel at all.
However you probably want to go with the advice given above I would think, or not ymmv. _____________________

There is a toggle on the land parcel settings once you check it you will show up in places and "all" searches
It costs $30L a week. If you don't own your parcel the land owner will need to do it. Don't be surprised if you have to really hunt for your parcel after you turn it on though, it will probably be all the way at the end of the list. |

After arranging the "Show in Search", that thread gives a lot of info about how to optimize for Search. _____________________

Your best bet is the classifieds, but yes you need to set your parcel to show in search as well. I am not sure why nobody mentioned that yet, a bit odd really. But yes generally when people search for an item to buy, they use keywords. You can either look at similar adverts for keywords and their functions, or just dig up one off the million wiki pages.

One thing to consider is listing your products with SLX and OnRez, due to the general crappity of inworld search atm some people are searching for items there and either buying them there or going to inworld to do the actual purchase.

I wish it was Marcel, but we both know different. Besides why rise to respond if it is? Your response is not even a well reasoned rebuttal. Just let it lie, you don't have to respond to everytime I make a throw away comment on this subject. Neither do you have to ventilate your jaded view on a serious question from a resident. You surely can't think your posting did contribute anything to the question did you? As for me, I rather point someone with a question in the right direction. _____________________

Stuff the bickering you three. This isn't helping the OP.
If you did click the list in directory, it might take a day for it to show up. Usually it takes less, but I always err on the side of 24 hours. Next step is a classified ad, which I don't usually spend more than 50L on. And by all means, take advantage of SLEx and Onrez to list your items there! All it costs is a bit of effort, two prims and time. A lot of people use them to browse before even going shopping in world. _____________________

Ignore Gabriele, Lestat. The others have given good advice. It was every bit as reasoned as your initial piece of bull*** was. I.e. you made a statement and Marcel made a statement. No written reasoning from either. I hope that helps. Neither do you have to ventilate your jaded view on a serious question from a resident. You surely can't think your posting did contribute anything to the question did you? As for me, I rather point someone with a question in the right direction. Intimidation is really all you guys are good at really hmmm? Or don't you want someone knowing all the options available? Whilst my post was supposed to be quite tongue in cheek which you both failed to appreciate, the advice is actually valid if you subscribe to the way you both see running an SL business. So now its bull****? Well I did have my suspicions. I will have my opinions, I will post when I feel the need and neither of you will intimidate me into doing otherwise however much you attempt to bully. _____________________

What if i am using a friends attic... and it shows as her business.. is there a way to get my little shop legit? You could still do a classified. If you friend lets you she could list the parcel and set the landing point in the attic. |

Intimidation is really all you guys are good at really hmmm? No we are good at creating and selling low prim furniture as well ![]() The only thing I wonder about is where I tried to intimidate you? Never mind, to wrap it up for the OP: - Make sure your parcel is listed in search, by setting the "Show in Search" option, costs 30 linden per week. If you rent your shop, the land owner might be able to do it for you. - Put up one or more classifieds - Use SLX and OnRez as well to get noticed. Good luck! _____________________

ANYWAY no it doesnt work in a day or two. I added Holodoc's 7Seas Fishing weeks ago at 30 per and holodoc, 7seas, or the exact name will not show up in places search, only the all search. No, that isn't acceptable.

Bots are a problem, and so are picks campers. But that doesn't ruin the search feature entirely.
I use no such thing but the new search has been good to me for my house sales, because, amazingly, people can finally find me. My little shop gets about 30-40 visitors a day, using nothing but a 50L ad and a well written parcel description in search. If this were the only thing that I did, I would call it very successful, as it more than pays for its tier. And a search for any of the usual items ("hair" "skin" etc.) will typically deliver many of the top recommendations that people give anyway because people take the time to put them in their picks. The extreme cynicism is unwarranted. Some cynicism, yes, but planting the tongue too deep in the cheek without further context is not particularly helpful. _____________________

The extreme cynicism is unwarranted. Some cynicism, yes, but planting the tongue too deep in the cheek without further context is not particularly helpful. I will say this though, I think that there is a measure of benefit to the OP to know how some use or abuse search depending on your point of view. Especially if they are entering that arena for the first time. Of course critising my comment is not particularly helpful either nor warranted. However you, Phil and Marcel feel the need to do that. Pot meet Kettle. If you were not referring to me then of course none of this applies to you. _____________________

If you are referring to me, then my original comment was not meant to be particularly helpful. The question had already had some good answers and I later followed up my "not really that serious comment" with some proper advice to provide some help to the OP. I'm not attacking you, Gabriele, so don't get defensive. I have nothing against you and have no desire to get into a pissing contest over this stuff, so you can relax. If you just want to smart off, that's your business, but all I offered was a different point of view that isn't meant to be critical of you personally. I *do* wish to be helpful to the OP, because I think the extreme position goes too far, to the point where it discourages people from optimizing their parcels at all. I wanted to show that it is possible to experience relative success without using bots or picks campers. _____________________

I have nor had any desire to get into a "pissing contest" with anyone the fault lies with what came after my comment. I take exception to your suggestion that I might want to "smart off" for defending myself against unwarranted criticisms. For someone who does not want to get personal you are using extremely charged words there. I was not sure whether you were criticizing me hence why I said you can ignore it if your weren't. However just from the reading it could have been taken either way. Everything I wrote up till the last sentence really had nothing to do with you personally and was a matter of perspective for the OP. My last sentence was aimed mainly at the original comment and then slightly moderated by what you said afterward. I am well aware of your bitter history with Phil and Marcel on this subject and I want no part of it. My post is solely to put things into perspective and to give the OP the understanding that it isn't all broken. _____________________
