Ummm there are a few quite jaded and cynical reponses here since last I looked in on this thread. From: Stephen Wisent I've got to say I've never understood the whole "Rez Day" thing.
Ok, I know everyone can do what they want and if the day you first gave your anonymous hotmail email address and fake name to LL was a big deal for you then I guess you should celebrate it.
Although I'm thinking if you celebrate opening an account with LL, then you must have a very hectic life..
What with celebrating
Your "B Day".. that being the day you first opened your bank account.
Your "V Day".. the day you first opened your Visa account.
Your "D Day".. the day you passed your driving test.
Your "S Day".. the day you first logged into your Skype Account.
Also.. what about your alts.. do they get "Rezz Day" celebrations too?
Sorry.. I'm being a bit facetious.. but the question on my lips is .. WHY..?????? It seemed to me that unlike with VISA, Driving Tests, Skype etc... That my SL avatar account gives me the chance to virtually live a different life, to be a different person. My AV and the way she acts is definitely a large part of my nature but she is definitely not the same person I am in RL. That is mostly a different discussion however, the point is that she was "born" and her uniqueness did not exist before. She has given me much pleasure and fun, so it seemed appropriate to me that the day should be marked in some way. Yes, yes I am definitely an immersionist and not an extensionist - if you are the latter you will probably scoff at my sillyness but they do call it Second Life after all not Same Life

wow. What happened to make you so bitter? Are you OK? Life is what you make of it; and second life is no different. It's not the pixels or what they are doing, it's the stories and laughter and tears and simple human contact that make the party. Boring stories and old jokes and frustrated tears all played to the tune of low bandwidth music. It either touches your heart or might as well be watching Sienfield reruns on the idiot box. |

This is how I feel too Jacinda, I used to watch way too much television. Television is spoon fed content over which the only control you have is to choose a channel to be fed from. I hardly watch any television any longer, SL is so interactive and immersive in a way that television has never been for me.

omg this thread has made me so depressed :{ I had no idea anyone celebrated rez days; I came to SL with a group of people from another chat & have now been hanging around with the same people, who I consider family, for four of my RL birthdays. Each year, in chat & now SL, we have made a thing out of each others RL birthdays except NEVER mine :{ So, I dunno about rez days but it seems if 'friends' can't be asked to make an effort for a RL birthday they wouldn't for a rez day
