I started out playing a role, but Oryx has morphed into her own person. She's more like a part of my subconscious; she IS me, but she surprises me sometimes.

Nope. Max is 100% me, in terms of his personality. Obviously I'm nowhere near as devastatingly handsome, nor do I possess his breathtaking cheekbones, but then again, few mortals do. :)

I'm just me with a lot more cool clothes and hair options. Actually...I am more the little voice in my head that defected to SL.
I don't RP.... if you meet my avatar...you meet me, and often times my cat because she is usually on the desk in front of me blocking the screen.....and my avatar is named after my her. ;)

My avatar is pretty much me. Just bluer.

CX, my Av is essentially me. I think that her behavior is pretty much how I am in RL with the obvious exceptions you state. I sure can't dress up at will in costumes at my age or the kind of life I lead (people would think I'm insane!) and she sure does look a heck of a lot better than I do at this stage of my life but morally, ethically, mentally and in her interests we are very much the same.

Sure, she's run off course a few times - that's what SL is for; experimenting and exploration come with the territory but she always finds her way back to home base. I like to think the wilder side of her is who I was in my early 20's and truthfully, that part of me still exists so, why deny it?

As for my Alts - only one of them was really what I could call "different" (ok wait two, I forgot there is a male one, but I don't like running him at all, he's shelved). The others are just different faces because every now and then I enjoy having a different look and name, but I find I still behave the same in them.

Blot ia me, he sits in front of the same bar that I do in RL. The sods got more hair than me (except when he logs in,serves him right)and he can still smoke in the bar.I bloody envy him LOL

I haven't had a tush like Brann's since I was 18 but it's a nice memory.
Personality-wise, yes pretty much what you see/read is what you get.

I can vouch for Max's statement - I've actually heard him say "tosser", "wanker" and various statements that you have to read a few times before figuring that you are being yanked a bit, and to what degree.

:D

MoxZ is my mini-me. Except for some of the clothes that girl wears..dayum! I tried to stay true to my form when shaping and finding a good skin, but in my opinion, she's much much prettier than I could ever hope to be. I have been told by a couple of people that know me personally that she looks like me though. Meh...mostly just the hair I think.

But mentally I am Mox and Mox is me and we don't fake it.

Edited to say: But as you've already stated, I cannot be held responsible for my alt.

Edited again to say: No wait...I take some of that back..Mox has bigger boobies than me.

No. Im much, much prettier in RL..... LOL

Ok,sorry lol...
Its a hard question for me to answer...I guess I would go with saying that Claire is still me.

She looks nothing like me, and I don't have anywhere near the style she does in RL. Obviously I am not half cat in RL, so I spose that part would come under RP, and any purring etc would be RP. But to me it isn't RP as such.

Her personality is very close to my RL one...the only difference is the confidence she possesses seems to hide when it gets back to RL.

When I interact with others, it is me talking, not a made-up character.

Alts are the same, just different aspects of me...

What ever av I'm wearing, it's basically me. I might say 'Caw' once or twice while I'm a crow, I mean how can you not? Same me, though.

Just me all the time but probably less outgoing just because it is hard to talk to people with all the delays that IMing and typing cause. Much easier in voice enabled areas.

Nah. My avatar looks....somewhat younger than I am. But aside from that it's pretty much all me - even down to the kinda clothes I usually wear.

Sorcha is pretty much me - or at least, one aspect of me. Younger and prettier and thinner and able to fly, but still me. I suppose SL lets me be a little more outgoing, or showcase certain aspects of my personality at any given time - but nothing that isn't already there.

(Madhu, you mean you're not that blue in RL? Another illusion shattered...)

I'm probably more me in-world than I am on the forums.

Yet I think it doesn't really matter whether you're trying to be yourself or not. I don't believe it's possible to represent yourself realistically in a virtual world like Second Life. So you trying to be yourself is irrelevant. In other words - who you are and who people think you are will often not match up at all.

Another example:- It would be possible to have two people switch their accounts and we wouldn't even notice, provided they don't talk about their 1st life, despite them still being "themselves"!. In many ways our anonymous "friends" in SL exist only within our heads and aren't that much different from characters in a book.

Looks do matter and they can totally transform your perception of somebody in an instant. So being yourself in Second Life while hiding behind a avatar doesn't mean much at all. We're far more than a bunch of chat messages.

Depends on how well you've gotten to know them. Surely, if someone else got into your friend's account you'd at least have some suspicion.

Similarly, there are a people who actually believe that others can't figure out who their alts are. Some folks just can't play a 'role' even if they wanted to.

Since I don't interact with people in RL, I'm not sure how much of me comes out in the other me I have created for SL. I don't think I resemble my avatar or online persona in any way, even in IMs. (=_=)

I think that's the key reason I'm in SL and not any other form of online social gathering. I don't want the pressure of being me. I'm a little afraid of what I'm like. So, I make my avatar and persona the other me that's more "me" than me. I'm sure I break character here in the forums more than anywhere else. But, really, I'm having a blast with avatar-to-avatar interaction without involving the meatsack me in the equation. (^_^)

Lil is mostly me in most situations, like when I am dancing somewhere or chatting at the Hangout; though I haven't had that body in about 5-7 yrs. However, there are those School Girl times...............

Hi CX et al,

No - I'm not playing a role. I'm just me - playing around, having fun, and enjoying meeting new people. I probably wouldn't be very good at RP or having other av's.

I do look a little like my av - hair and body type, but way better clothes in the way of gowns and boots. Couldn't imagine wearing those teeny skirts and thigh high, red strapped boots to the office or grocery store!!

grins...

So tell me, are you playing a role? Are you really the person behind the avi? I may actually weigh 350lbs and have a huge wart on my nose. But you are getting me / my mind through the keyboard.
"CX"

Yes, depending on location, situation and people. Since I seldom leave my home micronation (Caledon), I am usually in a role. I can and will answer questions (unless the visitor is an obvious newbie that I would confuse) according to character background. This often leads to some very amusing comments from confused mainlanders! :)

However, when I am out shopping, I do not to stay in character...same when close friends (many I know RL) visit. I drop out of character for them. But puttering around in my store, or building something steam-driven on one on my various properties, I will tend to respond as if I were 'there' in that time/mindset.

I've done it. I still do it. Even with my alt and main standing side by side. (^_^)y

It is really me behind the avatar who is playing a role.

Only a few who know me very well and some people who I really enjoy talking with (like Lindal and Elora) get to experience the RL me when I let my guard down. I am actually very nice, honest, and very caring in RL which is a polar opposite to my over dramatic, vindictive, bitchy, Second Life™ self. And RL me doesn’t go around giving people cheek Muahs™ all day long!

I am in a role which has stayed constant since the beginning.

But, CX, I think when we hung out, you got to know the RL me more so than the SL me.

:)

Ok back to my role,
Muah™
