So I just logged into my SL-related email account to find this: From: someone Dear Ann Launay,
Greetings from Second Life. Occasionally, Linden Lab needs to determine
the cause of bugs, simulator slowdowns, and various other occurrences
that you may have experienced while in Second Life.
While fixing a bug, we were able to trace it to something that your
avatar may have been doing, or something they may have seen. For this
reason, we have disabled your ability to log in to Second Life while we
examine your logs and try to determine the cause.
Your account will be returned shortly (usually within a 1/2 hour), and
no changes will be made to your character or account other than those
required to resolve the problem.
Your account will be restored as soon as we resolve the specific issue,
and we will notify you via email when that happens. We apologize
for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us if you have
further questions.
Best Wishes,
Linden Lab From: someone Dear Ann Launay,
Thank you for your patience while we worked on your Second Life account.
It has been re-enabled.
We hope that this did not impact your Second Life too severely, and
apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused. As always, if
you have any questions, feel free to contact us by emailing
support@lindenlab.com
Best Wishes, have fun,
Linden Lab The messages are 5 minutes apart, from 'support@secondlife.com,' rather than the autoresponse type generated by the Support Portal, and I haven't reported any problems recently. I can log in and my account seems fine, nothing missing that I can tell, but it still seems a little peculiar. Should I be concerned?

From: someone Dear Ann Launay, Argh, argh, you broke SL! OMG! RUN! From: someone Dear Ann Launay, Um, sorry about that. In fact, nothing happened. Don't know what you're talking about. Oh look, a monkey! Lots of love, LL No, I don't think there's anything to worry about if they say they've fixed it. Wonder what it was about though? Never seen that before.

From: Erin Talamasca Oh look, a monkey! Grid monkey, or the other type? From: Oryx Tempel How bizarre! Yeah...the email address threw me in particular, since if you attempt to write to it, it tells you it's disabled and to use the Support Portal.

I'd look at the detailed view of the message headers and see if it looks like it really came from LL.

Maybe it was the first stages of "Sky's Syndrome" and they, uh, quarantined you? But that sounds reeeally scary....."Don't move, you broke something!" Weird.

You must be some powerful kitty! Just call me Kitten o' Doom! =^.^= It was just strange that it happened on Sunday morning, when I hadn't reported or even experienced any significantly buggy behavior recently, and it came from an email address that I'm relatively certain is supposed to be disabled. Of course, they still have the 'webmaster@secondlife.com' on their 'File Not Found' page, and it's disabled too...they do seem to overlook minor details like that. Also, the 5 minutes between emails doesn't really seem like enough time for them to have actually done anything either. So it was odd all around. I haven't heard back from my ticket, but at least Sensual could confirm that I'm not the only person to have had these messages dropped on me. Thanks. *carefully hides the dessert cart from the Lindens*

That other people have received a similar message does not mean that it is legitimate. I'm sure other people have received the spam I get; it's still spam.

Nope, I'm still waiting for my ticket response to stop fretting over it entirely. And the email details say it was mailed by 'wayne.secondlife.com'...do we know Wayne?

you seem to be in the clear, so that's good. but yeah, wierd. I haven't even SEEN any griefing, let alone participated in it. And I haven't been on much with my main account recently anyway. I spent most of last week running an alt...I'm not sure I even logged Ann in until Saturday. That day, I went to the ETD reopening and then hung with a couple friends on a very quiet island where they rent. Nothing big.

Sounds like they were investigating something - crash, inventory loss, who knows what - and ran into a reference to your account. Maybe something in your inventory. They sent you a note, locked down your account so nothing would change then dug deeper for whatever clues they were looking for. Once they were done, they unlocked you and sent you another note.
/me is enouraged by this.

OK, I guess it actually was LL, but this response still doesn't really tell me anything. It does sort of make me laugh, though... From: someone Greetings,
Linden Lab has hijacked your account to inspect your Avatar see if there was any bugs or any evidence of problem causes. Since your Account has been re-enabled again, you do not have to worry about anything. You may have not reported anything but it could be someone else reported you to have you inspected for any problems or incidents. We apologize for the inconvenience and please let us know if you find anything impacted your account severly.
Thank you
Linden Research Inc. They hijacked my account! Mwahahahaha!

I'm surprised it's taken griefers this long to pickup on the idea of object recycling for the purpose of character assassination. It's something that has always worried me. It's why using the creator to identify an item is flawed. It's one of the reasons why I apposed an LSL function to read the creator field on arbitrary objects, it's to easily gamed. When it comes to recyclable assets, there should be a last modifier field.

Strife, the only part of that I understood was 'character assassination.' lol
I can't imagine why anyone would try to set me up for something though, unless it was a random choice. I don't go out of my way to antagonize people and actually keep to myself a lot. *shrug*

I believe Strife is commenting on what bad people have started doing with full-perm objects and scripts... modding them to do bad things, like steal people's money, and then releasing them on the world. The objects do the bad things, and when people investigate, they can only see who created the object originally... NOT the bad person who modded it to do bad things. The end result is that the nice person who released a full-perm item (probably a freebie) will get constantly harassed by the victims of the bad modded item, victims who have no idea they are harassing the wrong person. Even worse, it could destroy the reputation of a nice person. Strife suggests a 'last modifier' field, something that will tell us who the bad person who made the changes was. Good idea, in my opinion.
