I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish here. If you want to play the role of copyright cop, then by all means, go ahead and do so. Search out the copyright thieves, assemble your evidence and then alert the legitimate copyright holders. That is all you can constructively do unless you have a vested interest. Cluttering up threads on the this forum and slexchange's forum with your ungrounded accusations can accomplish nothing and casts you in a less than favorable light.

I am being vocal against the defenders of this behavior. Not the person in question. She has admitted doing wrong....fine...i was ok with that......her defenders jump on this strange band wagon and try to justify her doing something that is wrong. I just dont get that.
She can easily put this whole thing to rest by telling everyone that she did take some images and sell them as her own, and has since removed them. That will lay everything to rest....I have the conversation i had with her privately last night...but it is against TOS to post that convo up. Plus it would be better if she wrote it herself, that way no one can come back on me and say "oh you just made that conversation up"....lol. |

By going after her "defenders" you are most likely causing her a lot of heartache and upset, that hardly seems fair ![]() Believe me there are lots of places in SL that make you click 300 notecards before getting their textures..only to find that same image on Google images..AS IS.. I can also bet any amount of money that they wont be so quick to work with you. If that is whats happened here. _____________________

I agree with you...i hate drama...actually I totally aplogized to her the day someone told me about her taking textures. I thought i acted too hastily because i belived my friends claim instead of giving her the benefit of the doubt... so I sent her a message apologizing for my action and contacted SLX to remove my posts.
I then had my friend send me the direct evidence that he had....and i was shocked, appauled, and felt very very stupid. I contacted her in-game, and we had a lengthy discussion....she said she was taking care of it and the issue was gone. Fine...matter resolved. her partner and her friends start posting back on the threads without even knowing the conversation that i had with her. That makes me look foolish, when all she had to do is contact these people and tell them "look, i did take some textures, its all settled now"...instead she lets them believe that I am in the wrong, when that is not the case. At this point i dont care anymore...I am just going to do what i said I was going to do and that is to post the textures and screenshots on SLX and on here for you to judge for yourself. |

Are you going to be giving her textures away in a box as a freebie? Because those metals do look handmade using gradient filters and the such and I cant see whats wrong with that? _____________________

Interesting discussion for me. I Know of someone* selling a texture that took me many hours to make and that is taken from a website where it carries a legal copyright notice (this is provable). I got as far as writing a DMCA takedown request to send to LL so they could expunge it from the asset servers and thus from anywhere any unfortunate purchasers might have used it. Then I thought .... what exactly would that achieve? It probably wouldn't even assuage the very considerable rage that I feel that someone claims authorship of my work and tries to profit from it. Those who don't respect intellectual property are not going to be converted by being held to account for its violation. I'm afraid it is a truism that if you don't want people to steal your work, you should not put it on the internet (unless you can afford expensive lawyers). Maybe I should give him/her a copy with me as the creator and let him/her sell that instead? What are the chances of that?
*NOT the same person, by the way, and I imply nothing about the merits of either side in the case under discussion. |

what I really have a problem with is that people take this copyright stuff waaayyy to serious. To me SL is a game and I
admit that t I have no idea how much of real $ are involved in a SL buiseness that is considered successful but how far can we take copyright's ? I mean look at your own RL . We all are copycats the whole world's progress is based on copying other peoples ideas, lifestyles, looks .....you name it and I truly believe if we where so concerned about copying other peoples stuff from the beginning of mankind we would still live on threes and couldn't speak even the most basic language ![]() I make clothes in SL which I haven't sold yet and they are entirely made from scratch .... well there we go cause what I think is made from scratch does not mean the same to other's. Do I have to ask the fabric designer of my RL clothes for permission to scan it and use it in SL to make some peanut SL cash ? I would use common sense and value the work that someone put into a product. If you find yourself that somebody elses work is worth the price they are asking for it then buy it and if you don't and you still need it then make it on your own from " scratch " whatever that means to you . |

You don't have to look for prominent content like disney to get a clue that you can basically shut down SL as just one major copyright's violation case .......waiting for it ......still running ..........it must be a game then LOL |

I make hand painted textures.
There is rare occasion I look for shapes and ideas from google. Yet when on rare occasion I borrow I try to make the image as different as I can. than the original image. But that be side the point, I guess only way any one at this point can get textures from me is they locate my inventory, the one's out on public display and steal them via video card. Any way the sad truth about the nature of textures is regardless of who you are you can't stop others from giving away copies or stealing, etc. Majority of business in SL are very rarely unique most of are using stolen textures it seems. If anyone comes up with some thing unique, I bet the day after ten people will start up similar business doing the same thing. I love making textures. I have flip-flopped about sharing them with others. I don't know the solution but right now I am very torn about putting out the good stuff in my gallery or even Second Life be it to sell or for free whom ever to steal but who knows I am not sure if its good enough steal. _____________________

All of this has started me wondering about something I was contemplating doing.
I know how to use GIMP to make tileable textures. It is actually quite easy (I'd post to my online tutorial but then people would think I was trying to promote myself ... so google is your friend if you want to know how). I was thinking about putting the more useful textures up in SL for an Upload Fee purchase price. I was also going to offer them on my google-indexed website free for personal use (either pay me 10 L or pay the Lindens 10 L). Now, if I'm selling textures that I made that can also be found on google's image search (because I posted them on the net), will I find myself in a predicament such as this where I'm accused of having stolen my own textures off of the net to put on SL? Should I just not bother? |

I am trying to understand, but I just dont get it..when so many other texture creators would not of entertained you..but this one seems she was willing to work with you..yet still this? ![]() _____________________

Several posters here asked Scarlet for proof. Well, there it is.Obviously the creator did not take the textures off SLX - so maybe her supporters convinced her not to comply. I see this done all the time in SL. People take something that is free and sells it. SO someone takes the same item and sells it for free to undermine the underhanded. Tit for tat. The op said that the creator said in chat she will remove those that she used in that way..how do we know she has not removed them? Also is it possible that the creator brought a licence to use these textures and redistribute them? I am trying to see both sides and be fair about it.... I know some of the big textures stores in SL sell textures that they have lifted off Google images..but I have never seen them gone for in this way.. _____________________

i always try to make sure that textures i google are free domain textures and check the copyright details of the pics before downloading.
Alot of stuff thats googlable isn't for resale or redistribution as a stand alone or for use in logos or on websites "as is" but can be used as resource material as a small part in a larger presentation. Always good to read to creators notes and permissioons and alot of times they welcome emails and requests for use. ~Lana Tomba _____________________

I've also lifted that one for myself, yet my intention is to use it as a template to drop my own designed wallpaper into the torn effect and even then I was a little worried, Filterforge conditions of use do not allow you to resell images from it's site, the copyright for your own non profit usage only, she's been one bad puppy

If she has admitted the mistake and has taken them down and its something she did long ago, you shouldn't drag her name through the mud just because her "friends" are having an agument with you.
Go after them, but not her if she has done the right thing. From what Ive heard, In the early days of SL, BEFORE L$ WAS REAL MONEY, it was common practice to uploaded textures from the internet to be bought with the play money used in SL. Later the successfull texture shops then made their own textures and (to their knowledge) removed all the downloads. Nowadays L$ is real money so its completely unacceptable, but we shouldnt victimise people for a mistake of missing one when they removed the downloads. The big texture shops even ask people to tell them if any texturers they sell are stolen so they can remove them. |

I am curious to know what you all think about an individual taking a texture off the internet and selling it full perms saying "this is my work, i made it, dont resell or redistribute". if they got it off the internet, then it is neither their work nor is it controllable for redistribution. let them say what they will, bullying changes nothing. _____________________
