From: Ava Glasgow I know some people don't appreciate the value of meaningful thread titles, but I cannot understand why someone would actively fight against them. This forum exists for the sharing of information. Using a descriptive thread title helps in many ways. It helps people browsing the forum quickly identify topics that interest them. It helps the OP by increasing the chance a knowledeable person will see their question and answer it. It helps other residents with the same question find relevant threads, which in turn helps everyone by consolidating information and reducing duplicate threads. These are all valid reasons to use a meaningful thread title, and to politely ask others to do the same. This forum has a specific function, and we simply want it to work better. For those who feel that thread titles are NOT about good communication, but are only about teasers and taglines and getting you attention, I can only say that we strongly disagree about the purpose of this forum. I think it's about helping each other. Apparently you think it's about all about you. So good luck with that. In the meantime, I'm going to keep trying to make this forum a better and more useful place. ETA: And I apologize for derailing the whole grits groove. I havent actively fought against anything I simply feel people should be able to do so and to complain about the way people choose to title their threads is nitpicking. As for thinking the thread is about me I thought it was to get questions that interested me and possibly other people answered. How I chose to get those answers is up to me. Whether you chose to read and give answers is up to you.

I search the forums for answers to my questions, and frequently find them. I very often search just titles, which is not only quicker but vastly cuts down on the number of hits.
So, if you are starting a thread that might eventually get some info in it that other people want, please do put something descriptive in the title.

Ah thats a reasonable request I hadn't thought of that and it didnt come in the form of a nitpicking personal attack either...just for you I will ammend my titling policy from now on

At its best the forum works like this. : 1. Concise question. 2. Replies 2 to 7, honest and often succesful attempts to answer the question. 3 Replies 8 to 308, total fucking bullshit. Wiseass comments, Flights of hilarity, social chit-chat, aimless flirting, and the obligatory Hitler post. I dont believe the question is the place to start engaging in the madness. Save it for later.there will be plenty of oppurtunity.

Hey, chill folks, except for those you are covered in cold grits, which is a horrible thought. It would be cool to have fewer threads that give no clue as to their subject, but it is occasionally fun to threads like the Skin Oasis thread. That WAS a fun thread that was meant as fun. But to have so many threads saying "Is it just me" or whatever is a bit annoying. Oh, and perhaps Sandy and Lexxi could take this to PM, IM, or share some cold grits in SL

From: Sally Silvera I reckon Ava should serve as an example to all Except for trying to destroy the universe. On a serious note, I would like to note that my comments were not directed toward Maelstrom. I posted gentle reminders about thread titles on two threads this morning, and someone took offense and smacked me down for it on both threads. Rather than further derailing those threads, I came here to explain my position and make it clear I'm not going to stop trying to make this forum a better place just because someone thinks it is his MySpace page. I will now return to trying to crash the branes.

From: Trout Recreant I'm not sure even the wiki can adequately explain grits to someone in the UK. Heck, it's hard to explain them to someone who isn't from the southern US (for our UK friends, the South is usually the SE. The southwestern US is referred to as the South West, but it isn't part of the THE SOUTH. It's arguable whether Florida, our most South Eastern State is part of the South for cultural reasons. And yes, we are a bunch of incoherent idiots). Trust me, it almost makes sense if you live here. Grits are sort of like cream of wheat, except they're gritty. They can be served with greasy meaty stuff, like cheese and bacon, or greasy sweet stuff like butter and sugar. Cream of wheat is like oatmeal, only not lumpy and more wheaty. Most people who are not from the South look at them suspiciously and want very little to do with them. I happen to like them, but my mom was from rural Virginia (in the South), so I'm half Southern...sigh...lets not start a discussion on collard greens and ham hocks. This is sort of like asking a Norwegian to explain lutefisk. Ooooo... Grits, Bisquits and Gravy, Collards and Ham Hocks, Red Beans and Rice, Jambalaya, Seafood Gumbo... Food for the Gods.
