I love SL shopping because I can AVOID sales people.. o.o I have met only one so far in SL, and thank God, she left me alone when I said I was just browsing..

I would totally prefer the "welcome, have any questions, ask" approach from a sales assistant. I have come across a lot lately, i think store owners prefer a 'real' person to a bot to meet and greet. But what i hate more than an assistant hounding is when store owners are there and tell, not ask, tell you to vote for the store when you have only just arrived. I have had to leave 3 stores because of this. I will vote if I think its a place everyone should be aware of and not because you tell me to, I really find that worse

Ohhh there's a chain of electronic stores here and their salesmen are prowling the entrance like hawks. This mall reminds me of them. They'd do better business if these commission starved buzzards wouldn't descend on their prospective customers. It's majorly intimidating.
While in RL it may also be a tactic to watch for shoplifters, SL stores have no excuse.

Wow, I think the first time some yokel "told" me to do something, I'd "tell" them to eat my shorts and shop elsewhere. Don't these people realize that we remember where we shop, and return where the experience is positive?

Not having totally to do with this, but sort of. Just went into my bank to put some cash back into my account that I didn't use this weekend. Line was long and surprise of all suprises, a representative says to me "come with me if you just have a deposit", and whisks me to a private veal-fattening pen (as Doug Coupland loves to call them) where another rep takes my cash, and does the transaction for me. Sounds nice, right? Well. This guy starts looking at all of my accounts and hounding me about where my money is, what am I doing with it? Do I need a loan? Do I have a mortgage on my home? What about investments? Does my company have direct checking? Why not? Do I use my ATM card to make purchases? Etc. on and on and on. I was pissed as can be. I just wanted to put the damn cash back in the bank so I wouldn't be tempted to spend it things I don't need, leave and p/u my lunch and this pain in the ass is sucking away my lunch hour. I finally very directly told him I wasn't interested in anything he had to sell me, I'm set perfectly fine and please, I really need to LEAVE! This thread, did not help matters

From: Cheree Bury I do not understand those Vote boxes, and I never will. If you like what I sell in my store, please tell me, or better yet, tell your friends. If you don't like something in my store, please tell me. Well, the vote boxes go towards bringing more traffic to a store - or any location, Ive seen Vote boxes in lots of spots besides retail establishments. If I think a place is nice, or the store has good products, I'll click the box, and with products I'm really happy with, I'll put them in my pics for a while, as well as refer friends when the conversation goes that way. I know I've sent my landlord a crapload of people since May.

This thread also gets me to wondering why people come to SL and take these mundane jobs? I love to build, write scripts, and make poses, so that's what I do. Do these people get the same enjoyment out of tyring to sell stuff for someone else? If not, why are they doing it?

From: Ghosty Kips ... and I finally had to pipe up and tell her that I wasn't the least bit interested in sexy, that I wasn't in the market for a shape, and that I'd likely just grab a couple of demos and try them all on at home.
I understand your annoyance at the continued gabbing, but why on earth did you wait so long before saying this? Just because many of us would not like this sales approach doesn't mean that everyone would. And sales people have no desire to waste time with people if their efforts won't help close a sale. But sales people are people too, with feelings like everyone. All you needed to do, when she continued chatting after you entered the store, was to say "Thanks for trying to help, but I really find it distracting, and would prefer to do shop on my own, without help." Do this before you getting all worked up, and you save reduce stress all around.

OK, as usual I am a few threads behind....I just replaced my greeter with a "info" notecard giving box.
It does make sense, I guess I just grew so used to greeters that they started to feel required.
Thanks to all that pointed me the right direction. =)
and yep the Linden vote things used to effect traffic in some mysterious way. There are other Vote things that tally on 3rd party websites. I can't remember the name atm.

But as far as I can tell, there is no advantage to having that Vote box.

A sales girl came outside and invited me into the store. I told her, I was just waiting for things to res enough to matter ... and then went inside anyway - I mean, it's what i was there to do. She continues about what sort of skin I'm looking for, and how their shapes compliment the skins, and how this or that one is sexy ...
... and I finally had to pipe up and tell her that I wasn't the least bit interested in sexy, that I wasn't in the market for a shape, and that I'd likely just grab a couple of demos and try them all on at home.
I leave the store, and she IMs me to say "Have a nice day"!
Ugh. Stupid twit.

From: Kidd Krasner I understand your annoyance at the continued gabbing, but why on earth did you wait so long before saying this? I'm not sure. I think I was just hoping she would go away after the first five minutes of being ignored. From: Kidd Krasner All you needed to do, when she continued chatting after you entered the store, was to say "Thanks for trying to help, but I really find it distracting, and would prefer to do shop on my own, without help." Do this before you getting all worked up, and you save reduce stress all around. No, I shouldn't have to tell someone they're being a pain in the ass. I should expect a sales associate, who is (hopefully) an adult in SL, to know when she's being a pain in the ass. The IM after I left was the icing on the cake, however - had she not done that I would have forgotten all about it. Instead, she got muted, and an entire thread dedicated to her and her ilk. I can't wait to return to the store to have her hover behind me, typing away madly, and me not hearing a word of it.

From: Elora Lunasea That was quite the hard sell. I've never experienced anything quite like that inworld. I probably would have walked right out and not even have answered her at all. I HATE being bothered by sales help, unless I need it. A polite greeting is one thing, but being hounded is another. Had it been RL? OMG. Don't even get me started I don't enjoy shopping to begin with. Having someone follow me, chatting me up is a surefire way to get me NOT make a purchase. Wanna go to a mall and see who has less patience with the help? Could be a dead heat. Hehe I'm exactly the same!!! I want to shop (when I do) in peace. I particularly detest being in a dressing room and having the salesperson constantly knocking on the door saying, "How are you doing, dear?" How I'm doing is trying to take my clothes off in a usually too small dressing room, finding a place to put my purse, undressing, dressing...none of which I can do in the milliseconds I'm being queried...and...anyway... Yeah, don't get me going on that one! ~ ~ ~ In SL, I've had this happen once at a large furniture complex (I say complex because each type of furnishing had its own 2-level store). My partner and I entered one of the stores and were greeted by a sales woman. Ok, that was nice. We returned the greeting and continued on. We paused by an item and were discussing it in IM when this woman asked if we needed any help. My partner politely said "We're just looking, thank you." That should have been the end of it. Nooooooo...she continued to follow us around, making "selling point" comments on whatever we stopped in front of. Sometimes the place we stopped was simply so we could type a comment to each other, not that we were interested in that item at all. After about 5 minutes and it being obvious this woman wasn't going to leave...we simply tp'd out, never to return.

From: Ann Launay Ha, I was refused a promotion when I worked in retail, despite having increased sales in my department by 75% and decreased losses by 50%, precisely because I refused to stalk my customers. I would greet them and ask them to let me know if they needed any help, then go back to what I was doing...regional management told me I wasn't 'bubbly' enough. Of course, they then offered to send me to the absolute worst store in the city (old, falling apart, crap employees, bad sales) and said they'd reconsider my promotion in a year or so if I managed to turn that department around the way I had the one I was in at the time. I quit and went to grad school instead. OMG! You are exactly the type of salesperson I would like. They did you a favor - good move on grad school.

From: Skell Dagger If I see sales people homing in on me when I'm in an SL store, unless I'm *desperate* to buy something from that store, I'll TP right the hell out. For me that ranks only just below being randomly squirted with perfumes and aftershaves by eager female student Saturday workers as I walk through a RL department store. Miss, I buy my own smelly stuff, thank you. I don't wish to leave your place of employment smelling like a whore's handbag... I haven't spewed Pepsi on the screen for at least a week! /laughing so hard as I wipe it off
