EDIT: Where is the real world where the crooks have lost then? I think my world is more real than a hollywood movie.

So you just want to help them get the key to the vault, since there is no point in fighting them. C'mon? You wouldn't do that with your house, why do it with sotftware just because you imagine these are omnipotent crooks who are special. They aren't special crooks. They are just crooks.

Are you meaning a sim being crashed by real person's av going into the sim that is overtaxed by bots?

Yes! I've wondered many times how these bot farms stay up & running when others come visit.

I'm sure the bot farms keep some room for such an occassion.

I would guess, because it wouldn't do any good to have them if customers couldn't get in to their stores.

It is not the same thing at all - your argument is a straw man.

You might as well say that content creators are responsible for crime in SL - without paid content there could be no crime, why bring content in to a place to encourage crime? (Just to make it obvious, I don't beleive this at all - it is a statement that is equally as ridiculous as the locks and crooks)

Locks are an easy thing to install to stop your house becoming low hanging fruit to crooks. There are no locks in existance that *stop* all crooks or stop burglary being a profitable enterprise for crooks.
I have been burgled and i know what that feels like and yes we are vunerable despite the thousands we spent on locks and other security devices and so we install what makes us *feel* safe - not necessarily what is effective.

"As the advocates of open source draw new users into our community, we free software activists have to work even more to bring the issue of freedom to those new users' attention. We have to say, “It's free software and it gives you freedom!”—more and louder than ever. Every time you say “free software” rather than “open source,” you help our campaign."

Pleeeze. this is just getting silly.

Clearly Blizzard and other companies are not rolling over and playing dead. You want a Utopia? Okay good. You can go convert all the thiefs and hackers and scammers into being nice little boys. Save them from a life of crime.

You are right - it is getting silly and your arguments get sillier.
Who wants to even try to convert any "thiefs and hackers into nice little boys"? Certainly not me and I have never advocated that. If someone causes criminal problems by the use of software then they should face the consequences. Your arguments get weaker and weaker.

Open Source Helps Drive Revenue
Sun Posts 4Q Profit, Beats Analyst Expectations: "Sun Microsystems Inc. posted a fiscal fourth-quarter profit that beat Wall Street's expectations as the server and software maker benefited from lower expenses and increased adoption of its open-source operating system." -- Associated Press

BOSTON - Red Hat, the largest company focused on developing open source software, issued a profit outlook Thursday that topped Wall Street forecasts, sending its shares up more than 7%.

If they can do it reliably without impact on the rest of the user base then Yes. If Bots still exists despite all this effort and/or they introduce problems for the user base because of it then no.

SL is a different beast - we have to not only distinguish between humans and Bots but benign bots and harmful bots. Banning all bots is not the answer.

I for one would rather they concentrate on support and improving the grid than participating in a war with Bot makers.

EDIT: Just because someone deserves punishing for their actions does not automatically make it the right thing to do if the cost to everyone affected is too high. In my opinion.

And for every article about various companies using Open Source in various ways, there will be endless comments from the 'community" complaining that company is selling out.

Just as for every cartoon deriding Open Source there will be one doing the same for closed source.

EDIT: So who is actually right? Can you be sure? I cannot be sure either, but I do not come here to bad mouth the free software/open source movement either when I don't have facts.

Okay good so we are in agreement after all. Yes, Blizzard will be just fine and their user base we be just fine (that is relatively speaking since WOW addicts tend to be pretty hopeless in the RL department)

Yes I can heartily agree to that Rebecca :)

EDIT: It is just the open source stuff that I take issue with you over and I hope you know it is nothing personal.
