Not necessarily, though I find that I tend to mostly ignore those who are intolerant, rather than become intolerant of them. Life's too short.

Mind you, if we're talking about people who are taking it to greater levels, such as in Darfur or other, similar situations... that's different. The sort of stuff that comes up 'round SL by and large? Eh, there's more important things in the world.

The way you have framed the question the only answer is yes. :p

Pep (Perhaps you should think more before asking such questions? ;) )

eg change "does" for "should".

And if you change 'does' for 'should' then the answer, for me, is definitely not. I'm not patient enough for starters.

I agree; this tolerance thing is seriously over-rated.

Why not phrase your question as "Should we all be sheep baaing the same tune?"

Speaking strictly philosophically, the correct action is to tolerate the intolerant person (to the greatest extent possible) while calling them on their intolerant behavior.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were easier to live up to our ideals?

Only one possible answer to this. Tolerance demands that you tolerate the intolerant person, while absolutely not under any circumstances tolerating their intolerant attitudes that make them the intolerant person in the first place.

philosophically yes, realistically, not when it infringes on another persons ability to access/use public spaces.

"people that say mean things suck" =)

Yes, I think it should. I believe that intolerant people deserve the same kindness as anybody else because, after all, we are all flawed in some way. Tolerance of behavior that harms others is another matter entirely. I think that we all have the duty to speak up against harmful behavior no matter if the actor is a basically tolerant person or an intolerant person. And no, I don't always live up to this ideal. But being imperfect is part of our shared humanity.

I will tolerate an intolerant person. But, I believe I'm allowed to consider their behaviour intolerable and act accordingly. (^_^)y

The real question is; who's willing to tolerate Immy? =^-^=

If you cannot be tolerant of intolerant people, you yourself are intolerant and therefore should not be tolerated.

In theory, yes, of course. In practice that is another issue.

I do at times find that I have no tolerance for certain people, even if they aren't necessarily intolerant.

i believe it is because the option of voicing an intolerance for an intolerant person slides on a scale of diminishing returns.
