The phrasing of the KB entry seems to indicate that they want it in ADDITION to the ID. I can see asking if your address has changed and they're looking for proof of that, but a government issued ID should be sufficient proof of age.

The state I live in uses utility bills with further ID for obtaining a drivers license. I thought that rather silly myself, but the utility companies do check you out before turning your power on here.

I agree, it's kind of silly to request a utility bill along with the government issued ID for age. I mean, a utility bill doesn't have any form of date of birth on it. And I'm pretty sure that you can put the phone bill in your dog's name, if the dog has a credit card....

Of course, I don't know why the heck LL is accepting an SMS enabled phone for the teen grid. Every teen and adult seems to have one of the things, so that's not very helpful for verifying a teen, now is? Or maybe LL has a meter for how fast the text was typed and judge by that?

If I was the OP, I'd go ahead and see if the passport is enough for verification. If that didn't work, then I'd go find a friend in the UK and ask to use their connection to log into SL on the non-banned accounts.

Who leaves their IDs at home anyway when traveling out of the country? Don't you have to have an ID to enter an air plane? along with Pass port?

Seems like a simple resolve to supply the info they requested.
And they are not going to back down just because you are not at home.

Any time I wanted a new IP I just went into my Router and changed 1 number or letter in the MAC Address. Then release IP and renew IP and viola! New IP But that wont get you around an account/name ban.

I had written a long post about how angry I would be if I were you. Instead i'll say two things :

First, to the people who say "Its only 3 weeks, enjoy the time off, go read a book..." - I hope YOU dont need to be falsely accused and banned to learn some sympathy. To the people suggesting this thread should be locked since it's complaining about a ban - you miss the point entirely.

The point here is that it seems ANYONE can be falsely reported and banned without a fair process or proof of any kind. If IP bans are used, the ban would include your family and possibly other families on your street. This is a major flaw and this thread brings that to light. I'm not prepared to support any company that feels it needs to silence valid criticism by locking a thread such as this.

Second, Jacama, you said the girl who falsely reported your daughter admitted that to you. I'd be surprised if Linden Labs dont have a log of that conversation. But it begs the question : How did you chat with the girl while being blocked from SL?

But then it might stop changing my IP address. What would happen to my wikipedia adventures then?

Just turn it off and on again - that seems to do the trick for me.

thankyou for your reply and ty for understanding what I am trying to say here. Now to answer your question about how I spoke with the girl that put in the complaint on my daughter. We was on two different pcs at the time, My daughter crashed out and when she tried to get back in the message appeared, you cannot access second life from this computer... I was still on my pc , my account wasnt crashed out so as long as I was logged in I was ok. I had been chatting with this girl and with my daughter about what was going on with this girls sl partner to do with my daughter. I had said it looks like you are both being played etc and wanted the girls to both act as adults instead of children and that is what was happening. THe girl said to me if her sl partner chose to be with my daughter she would respect and move on and my daughter said the same. The guy came on line and we was talking , he knows I am her mom in real life as we have spoken before , things were going ok when my daughters computer crashed out. I asked her if she had put in a complaint on her and she said no of course not , then she went quiet, a few minutes later her guy sent me a copy of there private message where she admitted to doing this so again I questioned her and she admitted it to me. I signed off Second life at that point as I was so very angry that she was acting like a child and didnt want to get into a pissing match with her over it. THats when I found out that I also couldnt get into sl again as I recieved the same message on my screen when I tried to log in. I have always saved my messages but for some reason when I went to look on my pc for the saved logs I havent had any saved for over a month . I looked on my daughters saved logs and they are there but no regular chat history saved grrr.

That information will for sure be stored on some server. As soon as you are back in-world you could raise an AR against that girl, citing the names and (as well as you know it) the time of that conversation.

Moreover, it's a good idea to *always* log any type of chat and IM. The amount of data is negligible, it does not slow down things and you never know when you need the transcript again.

The SL client sometimes seems to reset the logging flags upon installation, so it's also a good idea to check them from time to time.
