From: blog Planned Outage - Oct. 31st - CANCELLED Thursday, October 25th, 2007 at 3:21 PM PDT by: Joshua Linden UPDATE (2007-10-26): The planned service outage has been canceled. More time is needed to prepare the updates, and it may prove to be possible to do so without downtime for all of Second Life.

i never ever defend Lindens lol ive been bitter towards them for years with a personal grudge. Even when i date Lindens, i secretly despise them lol. But . .COME ON guys . . simple mistake that could happen to anyone not paying attention to the holiday . . and says in the blog that the outcry was a big reason it was cancelled. Props to Linden Labs for listening.

yah i know but why assume the worse for the sake of it? No one enjoys apologizing when they mess up, especially when they are in a position of authority because many people think apologies are a sign of weakness. well not me - i see it as a strength and im not here to point and mock people when they stumble. Besides, i have serious complaints about Linden Labs, im not gonna get worked up over a small infraction like this. And its positive reinforcement when you praise sl for doing something right. Id like to see more of this behavior not less of it. and if all we do is act suspicious and never cut them any slack they may just give up even trying.

And yes, you're right that I got worked up very fast. Not over the mistake in the first place; I was sure they would rectify that. But it was seeing the cancellation as if it had NOTHING to do with any of us, or their customers' needs, that made me fly off the handle. I don't normally assume the worst, and figured they would fix this. But that business about not even mentioning the problem did get me going, at least until he added that part! But they have fixed it, so no worries. coco

If they had to worry about every special day in every country, they'd never get the grid updated ever. Halloween isn't even a public holiday in any country I can think of.

Oh come on Daisy, Halloween is big business. Trick or treating is plain annoying and I prefer the days when good honest begging like "penny for the guy" was the order of the day.
However a lot of people made their voice heard on this issue. There have been plenty of religious days and holidays between Halloween and Christmas and in this case they decided that the maintenance could wait. The fact that it wasn't super essential maintenance did help in this case.

Halloween has nothing to do with 'penny for the guy' ... that's Bonfire Night - 5th November here in the UK - which is on a monday this year. I too agree with trick or treat being annoying... I mean, what responsible parent would send their kids out knocking on stranger's doors any other night of the year? Broccoli

However a lot of people made their voice heard on this issue. There have been plenty of religious days and holidays between Halloween and Christmas and in this case they decided that the maintenance could wait. The fact that it wasn't super essential maintenance did help in this case. That is the important. Evidently Halloween is a big SL Day, and the Lindens should know that. No matter. People spoke up and The Providers listened. let's hope this is the beginning of a trend. I'm not a big fan of Trick or Treating myself. The fun aspects of Halloween, wearing costumes, scary stuff, The Greenwich Village Parade are great. My parents did away with Trick or Treating when I was a kid, instead helping with neighborhood parties and events, at the firehouse school etc, where candy consumption could be controlled. It's sad that the day gives so many anexcuse to be little more than hoodlums. Every Holiday is now big business, and while that may make it easy to lose sight of the orifginal meanings as HolyDays, it's still good that pepl can use these days as a means to get together, have fun, and try to be nice to each other. There is never too much of that.
