Well, find me in game sometime, take me to a location that your under the impression i've never been, and I'll be more then happy to prove the system works. I've done my research and spoken to the people who know what to look for and even contacted linden labs to acquire the information needed to see bots in game. Phil, I treat sl as a game, I'm here to have fun. I have several members of the mpl, and several camp locations that both don't want there to be any type of bots camping on their land. They're not there to increase traffic, they're there to drum up extra business and give new members a little linden. NO there is nothing wrong with money leaving sl, however I do have a problem with the way it leaves sl sometimes. If you've got a shop and you make enough to pay the bills off of it, congrats, your providing a service or a useful resource. Camping bots, especially those in groves, don't do such a thing. I only stated once, up until now that I knew something that the majority doesn't, or chooses not to share. IF members wish to seek out the service that I provide, so be it, however this thread's intended purpose is not, nor ever was a business junction on my part. Everything is everyone's to shape within the means they see fit, its the matter of choice and the logic of reason. If I believe something to be one way, i will do as I see fit to help to meet those means. Void, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop putting thought processes into my head and believing that the way you see things is the way they actually are within the minds of others. I personally want to see all non-graphical viewers eliminated from second life, be it traffic or camping bots. While traffic bots don't take linden away from people, they take away possible sl jobs for such things as models. While I do want to see the bots eliminated completely I can't just go and give out the two bits of information keeping everyone from being able to see bots bc then I would be out of a job, and would have to resort to putting more real world money into this game for basic things such as land and spending money then I already have/ deem necessary for my goals and endevors. I don't have an anti bot detection device on any land that I support that can't be gotten around so far, and the only one i know thats fool proof is elitedata's new mouse look sitter. Myself and another friend, took bots (metabolt and pikku) to what was supposed to be a new bot ejector and the only thing it manged to get rid of was the pikku bots, leaving the metabolt standing there for over an hour. Cortex NO, I mean the ones that want you to look at a hover text that has a number or word on it. The koha (fast camps) and the Alica Stella 3.5's for example. Both the meta bolts and the pikku's can easily overcome this new anti bot device. Littleme, Most of the camp owners that I do know care about bots. Places shouldn't have to have it look like people are there unless there actually are people there. Its not a super secret way, more and more people are finding out about how to do it, and it works. We've got the support of Spankme on this one, and I don't think she'd throw her name behind anything that is solid. I'm not the one for advertising though, I'm just the tech. Jojogirl, It would be very easy to just give out the secret, and put me out of business, but in by doing so I'd also be cutting my own throat on the ability to run bots of my own. I don't know the community well enough to just tell all, and to protect something this valuable, is my right. Elitedata, Does that mean your method is now comprimisable? // Yes I know my spelling isn't the best, but I'm not here to win any awards on it, and I don't use it as a way to judge someone, and therefore expect not to be judged based on it. |

Void, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop putting thought processes into my head and believing that the way you see things is the way they actually are within the minds of others. see... I don't have to put thought processes in your head, just make logical deductions from the following statements =) I know how to detect bots, but its not profitable to just give out the information to everyone,[...] I want to help completely eliminate bots from sl, but why should I do it for free, when it means that if I wanted to I could no longer run bots to make the profits for the mp3 player or the pair of shoes. 1) you want to eliminate all bots "I want to help completely eliminate bots from sl" 2) except yours... "but why should I do it for free, when it means that if I wanted to I could no longer run bots to make the profits for the mp3 player or the pair of shoes" 3) you want to profit off the elimination "I know how to detect bots, but its not profitable to just give out the information to everyone" and "why should I do it for free" which conclusion should I draw, exactly? as for modeling? I see that being harmed more by alts, but a restrained life viewer has the same potential (since you can force poses and clothing externally) no simple scheme will be foolproof, not even yours as elitedata pointed out, and all a bot builder has to do to find the current method is witness it themselves, or join the group that uses that method, and build around it. I'm not questioning the motive of bot removal from SL (I think they needlessly chew up resources that could be devoted to live people, and allocate a ridiculous amount to a very few), just your motive for wanting it. based on the above, I can only surmise greed and exclusion. not that there's anything inherently wrong with those, I just choose not to support them. _____________________

Several Quick Facts about bots:
Usually slow to rez. Will automatically resit on camping or other objects as they've been instructed to do. They never have voice support, no little voice dot over their heads. They can answer anti bot questions and can be taught to automatically answer them as well. Including the newer look at the object and press the number you see on the object. Will usually automatically accept or decline an item if given to them. 1. Oh boy...God help me if my typically not great internet prevents me from rezzing quickly...or worse, YOUR's! 2. Hm...can real avatars resit? How would you know whether it was me or a bot? 3. Oh hell, guess I better get on voice asap....I know my computer doesn't like it, but I should don't want to be mistaken for a bot!! 4. /me makes note to quit answering questions...but, if I don't answer, then I'll look like a bot and if I do answer, I'll look like a bot...I'm so confused!!! 5. Will accept or decline an item...errrr _____________________

I know how to detect bots, but its not profitable to just give out the information to everyone, there's other people here that know how to do so as well, and anyone who's paid for a membership to the merchant's protective league knows the way as well. I want to help completely eliminate bots from sl, but why should I do it for free, when it means that if I wanted to I could no longer run bots to make the profits for the mp3 player or the pair of shoes. 58% myself on the test Oh...so, not here to help the community battle bots, but rather, to rustle up business to the merchant's protective league? _____________________

Once you've detected the bots then what?
You usually can't do anything about bots on other people's land. Besides, I don't think many people actually bother to hide their bots. Most of the traffic bots just sit in cubes miles in the sky. It couldn't be more obvious. _____________________

I find that you contradict yourself as well.
You want to eliminate all bots from SL. Yet you dont wanna tell how cause it will put you out of a job. Ehm, eliminating all bots from SL (Including your own, I suppose) will put you out of a job too eventually. You already know that you and/or your group cannot eliminate every bot in SL, therefor you have found a constant source of income, and I seriously doubt if you even WANT to eliminate all bots, considering the fact that that would make you need to upload RL money in SL. As mentioned before in maybe not the exact same words: This got SCAM written all over it. _____________________

Ironically there is a way to tell someone who's a bot from someone who's a human, but I can't freely give out that information. Feel Free to pm me in game if you want to know more on that one .I'll be happy to give out that information "freely"....you simply IM them and say "Hey, Baby....you are looking Hot today!....sizzling hot!" 49 times out of 50, you will get "some kind" of response within a few hours, that will give you every indication that a human is operating the av. Curious about the 3000L fee to join the Merchant's Protective League....does that fee cover anything else besides teaching someone to say "Hey, Baby...." to a bot? Although your header on the Merchant's Protective League...sounds quite fine....one would never be able to pull that off in a mechanical venue, with the anonymity factor ruling, and a variety of ethical issues and nuances, among other things.....lofty goal....but impossible..... .....and offering to charge a fee for a common sense application such as saying "Hey, Baby...."....in a forum where a wealth of information, much more valuable than that, is given "freely" on an ongoing basis.....well....proves the point in the paragraph above, quite well. Scary. I wouldn't feel "Protected" at all....quite the contrary. Also wouldn't want to be "yiffed" when attending business group meetings....no offense to yiffers....just suggest that you might want to put that particular tid bit on your alt's profile, or stick it in your picks somewhere, if you are running a business group.....unless it's the Yiffer's Protective League, then by all means. |

kind of makes me think about, oh, i dunno... perhaps creating both the supply AND the demand. for example, (not that this could EVER have happened
) running a SL security service and, at the same time, giving full on support as a silent partner to some (hypothetical, of course) large scale griefer operation.of course, this could never happen. it's only theoretical. or theorhetorical. |

Isn't the most common way to present them with a paradox so that they overheat trying to understand it? I would try that.

I'm sick of all these 'No Entry' grid lines. The thing I like most about Second Life is exploring.
Enjoying the amazing work other people have created. What's the point of blocking anyone? It's not the Real World after all. We should have a right to freedom to roam. |

Sedgemoor.
Kinda off topic, aren't you? Well, that's OK, it's never stopped me before. Welcome to the Forums. And, Will Rogers once put it this way: "Your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins". My own property is open to all...but I understand those who want a little privacy. You will, too, the first time you're making out with your sweetheart and someone pops into your bedroom to watch. _____________________
