What are the best ways that you know of to combat bots? Prevent them from entering your land, prevent them from camping at a location alongside your or taking up the spots that a real avatar may be trying to use?
Several Quick Facts about bots: Usually slow to rez. Will automatically resit on camping or other objects as they've been instructed to do. They never have voice support, no little voice dot over their heads. They can answer anti bot questions and can be taught to automatically answer them as well. Including the newer look at the object and press the number you see on the object. Will usually automatically accept or decline an item if given to them.

Occasionally they go rogue, looking for ways around their four year life span.

From: Ralphie Saeed Prevent them from entering your land Limit access to your parcel to something, be it group only, access list only, payment info on file, whatever. Also, you could have a bouncer that ejects them, or something like the bot-banner that the Arbor Project uses, which works off of an online database that is relatively up-to-date. From: someone prevent them from camping at a location alongside you
Not unless you have ban/eject priviledges, no. From: someone or taking up the spots that a real avatar may be trying to use?
Come up with some bot-proof scripting. Yes, it is possible to fool them, though bot owners will figure out how to defeat every new development over time.

Give them a brain-explodey kind of thing to ponder, like "I'm lying." Generally, they'll babble at an increasingly frantic pitch as they try to make sense of it, and start to smoke. Then give them a self-destruct order and teleport them to space.

You just described 99% of residents (except maybe the camping)

From: Love Hastings Occasionally they go rogue, looking for ways around their four year life span. Then we need a bot - that doesn't realise he is a bot - to retire them . . . Pep ( . . . while falling in love with another bot that has just realised she is a bot)

Talk to your visitors. Be in human contact with them. If you want fast traffic as xploder or camping be ready to pay 100 avatars and gain one real customer. I'm banning a lot, without any warrning or explaining so probably someone inocent will be banned too. Is hard to make difference between money collectors and others. I think we all started with camping and collecting money in all possible ways, so I'm trying to be tolerant as much i can.
Anyway, You can't beat bots and collectors. They are multipling much faster than we can ban them. Is because lots of people is fooled they can earn money here.

Pep ( . . . while falling in love with another bot that has just realised she is a bot) Only if you make a movie about it. (Otherwise, he was never a bot.)

Ironically there is a way to tell someone who's a bot from someone who's a human, but I can't freely give out that information. Feel Free to pm me in game if you want to know more on that one . Mainly I was attempting to see what everyone else knows, but am coming to find out that the majority of posters don't have anything constructive to say.

Heck, it's Saturday, and many of us are considering our classic SciFi DVD collections, pondering what to watch tonight. But in respect for your feelings, I won't mention that you can always stop a bot in its tracks with a firm "Klaatu Barada Nikto".

Yeah, I understand that people want to be sarcastic and have a good time and I appreciate they're usually in good spirits, however there are those places for that and this isn't really one of them, imo.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Yuiselle/187/136/81My current location, come find me if you don't believe I'm a human player, and a husky avatar, lol. I've kinda made it my job/a job to go and get rid of bots from locations that are willing to pay the membership fee, and sometimes others when I'm feeling really nice. I mean who would really take the time to program a script to go onto a forum and post things to a complexity such as this?

Are you being invaded by bots? I have never yet found the need to "combat" them...not on my islands or my mainland land. Just curious as to why you need to engage them in battle.

Love, that was a link to browse tests, not a specific test, even though it may be irrelevant. From: Jojogirl Bailey Are you being invaded by bots? I have never yet found the need to "combat" them...not on my islands or my mainland land. Just curious as to why you need to engage them in battle. Because bots take 50,000 usd out of the game a year for those that are used to manipulate camps. I'm smart enough to have done the research and have a way in which to distinguish the bots from the human avatars w/o running a bot or a broken script. I've seen cases where someone will announce a camping location to a group and I'll telaport there, within minutes the place is overrun with bots and decent human avatars can't camp there.

From: Jojogirl Bailey but arent the camping bots and the decent avatars all run by humans? just sayin... The camping bots take an unfair advantage over those who arn't smart enough or unwilling to run them, away from the average new player. If I can run 5 free bots on a 2.9ghz single core processor while running firefox and second life, and be able to make 144+ a day, whats to say that someone else, or several other someone else can. Whats to guarantee that these people are going to amass the lindens they get from manipulating the system and use them solely in game, or pay the 9.95 for premium for a month and cash everything out?

just seems like regulating exactly how people camp is pretty much impossible and really not the decision of the one offering the camping. im not saying i agree with someone just filling every spot, but i also know that as a new person, having one av sitting all day did not contribute anything good to my experience of sl. I have always told new folks to just buy lindens and have a good time rather than sit in one spot for hours. seems like those who offer camping for cash are wanting the inflated traffic numbers but not the stigma of using bots and now they want to regulate who can and how they can camp. interesting.
