You're all so mean! You guys need to realize that these forums are running on special state of the art cutting edge Linden Lab technology. They're not your typical forums with that humdrum VBCode and stuff. You should give Linden Lab a break here. Meanies! That's right! It's a little known fact that these forums run on the top secret VCCode. Created by the North Vietnamese in the late 60's. It was known as "Project Charlie". Albert Einstein and several German physicists were involved...wait. No... Wrong war. That was the nuclear bomb, now known as the George W. Bush Commemorative Nukular Bomb Thingy. OK. VCCode is particularly nasty stuff. It's cutting edge comes mostly from fire hardened bamboo and bits of shrapnel from unexploded landmines carefully plucked from the ground by Princess Diana before al Quaeda offed her. At any rate, you can't expect perfection from VCCode. All you can expect is sneak midnight attacks and booby traps. I suggest if you're getting 503 errors, you should defoliate your keyboard with Loofa, since Agent Orange is no longer commercially available, and then pour lit sterno all over the cpu. Sterno is like napalm, only more jelly-er. Oh, and LL is amazingly innovative. Stunningly so. They desperately need a businessperson in charge of many aspects of their business. They are making desperately bad business decisions. _____________________

The fact that someone can *create* something doesn't mean they're very good at maintaining it. I'm saying that LL are *not* very good at running a day to day service, despite having come up with a great concept. I don't understand what you're not getting here. _____________________

Those of us who post here occasionally find ourselves in the position of play-by-play announcers. We think it’s important to let you know that we’re aware of a problem as quickly as possible, instead if letting it sit until we can blog a tidy post mortem. Because problems in a heavily distributed environment can be subtle and difficult to thoroughly trace, we sometimes have to relay unpleasant surprises (in the form of the infamous [RE-UN-RESOLVED] tags) as our tech team closes in iteratively on an operational glitch. Having said all that: These intermittent failures with our Website seem to be setting some kind of record for aggravation. Here’s what we know so far: It looks like a load balancer’s mostly to blame. A really stubborn load balancer. If you get a 500 Error, a 503 Error, or a redirect error, hitting ‘refresh’ in your browser will generally get you a good connection the second or third time around. Your irritation is thoroughly understandable, and we apologize for contributing to it with premature reports of resolution. Multiple Web-savvy Lindens are focused on this. Some of them, still on the road to work, don’t know that yet. They’ll find out very shortly. We’re not going to call this [RESOLVED] again until we’re sure the tag fits. –teeple But I must also add...I got to see the 503 error a total of 8 times while attempting to post this. yes, I have been counting each time...lol |

Play by play announcers?
They posted it as resolved at 10:00AM Sunday though it was not, no further word until 9:00AM Monday but that post does not really contain any useful information on what if anything we can expect. And now, 2:00PM Turesday and the problems continue and we have recieved no futher word. If this is an indication of what LL considers play by play announcing we need an LL to real world translator because their definitions of things like RESOLVED, IMPROVE STABILITY, NO SERVICE INTERUPTION does not seem to match anything that the rest of the world uses. _____________________

I think we both agree that LL is *not* doing a good job of running a day to day service. I just don't think that that makes them stupid - someone can be great at making things, but not good at maintaining them, and I think that's what's happening here. _____________________

They call second life the cutting edge. well it is when you have nightish issues like what we had during his week and for the 1 year. Growing pains? Well maybe but lets get some facts here right. If someone is paying for a service and it fails to work right people have a right to talk back in a high tone voice ( and not not the voice option on sl ). I don`t know how long you been on sl ( mind you the amount of people that have been here for years and now are in alts) But the history of how LLABS has dealt with problems and issues is less then cutting edge tech. I never use the word "stupid" unless it fixs. one a few times in my sl i used such terms. But these past weeks is unbareable.........LLABS need to learn to start scaling their own abilites and not that of the UI. because thes edays it seems The coders don`t know a think what they are doing. Just look no they do a rolling update. As so didnt they say a few days ago there would be no problems rolling out the new codes? what happened? Well they rolled the "CODE" back and re did it. Why? because they screwed up. Now is that clear enough.

Yeah, you can tell them about the problems you're having, and they will not listen. They really just want to get you off their back, a lot like any other company, or they will give you the run around each time you call. The reason is not because they don't care to help you, the reason is because they DON'T KNOW HOW to help you. What do you call that? If we can't call it stupid, we can at least call it ignorant...
But keep in mind, this is a company that takes your money for a service, that's the way they see it. If you spend hundreds of RL monies in SL on some creation by some other account holder, and while LL claims they cannot do a thing about such transactions, and you are ripped off, you CAN go to the BBB and file the report against LL. If you make that threat to them, they WILL start listening. We don't want to put them out of business, we just want them to start giving a shit. They're making a lot of mistakes, in the form of service, and the way they keep changing things that the ppl are happy with, and raising teir prices. But I think the biggest mistake of all is treating the majority of users like crap. They cannot succeed with only the concierge account holders alone. The concierge account holders cannot succeed unless they have us regular users to purchase land from them. This is not the days of survival of the fittest... Haven't we gotten past that? I may not have a huge balance on my account, but I do just as good as the ones who do, and I deserve the same treatment as concierge level account holders, because I'm spending as much money as they are, I just didn't buy an island. |
