My second theory is that, if a stomach has been stretched into being a bigger bag already, it can be shriveled back into being a smaller bag too, by training it with small meals.

This is a myth. The only way to reduce the size of the stomach is surgery (stomach stapling).

The smart part is never eating enough to stretch your stomach. It never shrinks.

my step mom puts peanuts in her pepsi..right in the bottle or class..
has anyone heard of this before?she says lots of people do it or did it..i don't know what it would do but hold peanuts and save on cleaning a peanut dish hehehe

Pepsi, no but in the American south, roadside stands sell bottles of Coca Cola with peanuts in them. It's apparently a regional thing.

Peanut M & M's seem to go well (separate containers!) with Cherry Pepsi, in a junk food kind of way, is all I know. I'd feel grossed out by anything solid coming up to my mouth while drinking a beverage though. But then I'm fairly fussy and not used to peanut Coca Cola (I wish I could remember its name).

Am I going to hurt myself nutritionally? Is this diet safe?

See a doctor or nutritionist. Seriously. The internet is not the place to go for health matters. Even people who may have a lot of knowledge and/or be trained in those fields - there is no way for you to know their credentials are actual, if everyone is conversing on the internet.

That said - telling you some sources of protein isn't harmful. I would just simply never tell anyone what to eat, or not to eat, or that their diet was alright for them. A doctor and/or nutritionist would hopefully, check you out thoroughly, run tests and see your basic health picture before beginning to advise you how to proceed. Even sham tv ads say consult a doctor before beginning a new diet or exercise program. :P

Non meat sources of protein include soy, seitan (wheat 'meat' basically hardened bread), certain beans, grains, nuts, and dairy. Also I notice some recipes include chicken or fish in a 'vegetarian' recipe but to me those are animals, therefore those are meat. But if you see fish as a non meat item, then, okay, fish. :)

Lots of great vegetarian recipes online and in book stores by the way.

I would only see a nutritionist if it is covered by insurance, and if you plan on doing an Atkins style of diet.

Other than that, you are pretty safe and any deficiencies you will figure out over time like the majority of people who diet.

Thankfully, the internet has brought together so many volumes of information and studies that you can almost guarantee that anything you read online will be repeated by a dietitian or nutritionist, with maybe some amplifying information. But be careful, i have noticed a trend in doctors bringing up the most remote possibility of something occurring and wanting to test you for that remote chance that something may happen. Better safe than sorry is always prudent but doctors these days are little more than salesmen or mechanics, trying to fill a bill quota or curry favor with other medical friends by sending them referrals and requesting unnecessary lab work simply because the person they sit next to at Sunday Church is the doctor that owns said lab where they send all their blood work.

Free range, organic, it is all scams to get more money from you. Gelsons in L.A. charges like $14 bucks for an organic chicken, $22 bucks for it rotisserie style.

Whole Foods is much cheaper than that, I am pretty sure, and their chicken also is supposedly 'healthy'.

Having looked into the topic of chicken/egg farming a fair amount at one point due to allergies to some of the things farmers tend to give them on a routine basis - I found out that there are a fair amount of loopholes. Chicken labeled "no antibiotics" - well I've reacted to those badly. And it turns out the farmer CAN give antibiotics to chickens in their care "if they seem to need it" - well by whose criteria? See what I mean.

Also "free range" does not necessarily mean roaming the fields freely as in days of old. It usually just means a big outdoor pen, still overcrowded, and still filthy - but it's outdoors. You're right a lot of this is a scam. There's more but I'll stop there for space/forum context.

From: someone
I do not understand how letting a chicken free range and not giving it hormones and chemicals makes it more expensive.

Because they can get away with charging more, by consumers trying to be healthy agreeing to pay it. And supposedly because being 'free range' takes more room, and because it's more labor intensive supposedly to actually take care of the animals rather than simply force feed them antibiotics (which also serve to fatten them quicker - something people might think about) and hormones and other assorted idiocy.

I think about every place is less expensive than Gelsons, but it is my mom's grocery store so when I am in L.A. that is where i have to go.

Yea, Ceka mentioned that antibiotic thing, and though her family only uses them when needed, i would not be surprised if others used them more liberally and unnecessarily for various superstition or illogical reasons.

The only true free range animal i have ever seen are these particular turkey's my mother buys for Thanksgiving. The farm has web cams that you can use to view the facilities and property and the turkey's have soooo much space. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the turkey place, but they are pretty well known among cuisine places and a $20lb turkey runs around $180-$220 USD. The meat of the turkey is also a deep red color when raw.

That's really interesting about the turkeys. I'd be interested to know the name of the farm if you can find it out later or remember it, and wish to PM me here or in-world. I have to carefully avoid certain things due to reacting badly to a certain class of antibiotics and just in general having an allergic type of metabolism. In general I find turkey to be safer than chicken though, since chickens seem to be raised much more in factory-farm style and are smaller and can't burn off the crap before slaughter like a bigger animal might. They also seem to be overfed, and led to slaughter much quicker - overall not a great food for me. So I haven't had anything but a microscopic taste of chicken in years now. :(

Before that I was a lacto ovo vegetarian most of my adult life. I had a couple years where I ate pretty much what others did without worry, then that massive bad (antibiotics) reaction that led to avoiding the traces even in food. Yep I know it's odd sounding but it's true.

I never liked beef so I still don't eat it, and also mad cow disease is scary to think about - 25 yrs later someone can evince symptoms? Nuh-uh. Also venison can carry the same thing. Dad hunts deer once a year legally but after reading that I won't be eating venison. Typical American I have never eaten lamb at all.

I mostly get by on tuna and (certain brands of) ground turkey. There is one place I will eat chicken and it's a place they raise them the REALLY old fashioned and humane way - and it's such a relief to not worry about a thing. For the life of me I can't figure out why farmers began treating animals like factory products, or why they began to think pumping them full of crap was a GOOD thing for ANYone in ANY way. The chemical runoff alone...

Your mom owns Gelsons? Cool. It's my favorite grocery. It's always so clean and I love that I don't have to load the conveyer belt myself. And their deli - yum. Whole Foods has some good stuff too but really - sort of a misnomer. They carry many brands with MSG.

i am very leery of marketed chicken myself..so much that if it has a major brand name on it i won't even think about getting it..like the Purdue chickens.. those chickens were huge..then came to find out they were doing something to them to make them that big..

we live pretty close to the Tysons chicken plant in Shelbyville Tennesseea..in fact where i went to get my puppy last night was right by the new barns they are putting up..
those barns are so huge and long..i could not imagine how many chickens they could put in those things..
myself i have 6 nests for 4 hens and one rooster..each has their own name..
my rooster is Foghorn from looney toons then there is Gretta Hazel Milly and Martha..
all hatched by me..hehehehe the fun thing about hatching them is they do look at you as their mother if you are there when they hatch..you cannot hide from them once they know you are outside lol

when my jeep pulls into the driveway i have to get out and walk through two dogs and 5 chickens at my jeep door..then i walk down feed my two horses Motown Midnight and Motown Express..the chickens follow me every step of the way..then feed the chickens and do an egg count..the feeding usually stops them from following me..then me and the two dogs Jed and Sadie go inside..i feed them and sit down for a breather..

our ranch which the whole family lives on now in each of their own houses..mine my fathers house and my sisters house..it goes from one end to the other for about 5 miles long..then i believe it's about 3 miles deep .maybe 4 .i forget..

our cattle and horses have so much room to graze that sometimes you won't see the cattle for a few days if they get into a favorite grazing spot..the horses you could set your watch to..8:00 on the dot they are in their spots ready to eat lol

my main job on the ranch is to make sure all the animals are doing well and all the fences are fine and no other cattle from the next farm over have gotten into our range..
i do the worming which is two times a year so they don't get tape worms.which that has to be done or they will get it..mainly i just run around on a 4 wheeler most of the day or take one of my horses..all this is after i do the morning routine office work for the construction company our family owns..thats the part of the day i try to get out of as soon as possible lol

but all in all we are really hands on with any live stock we have..our bull that we sold off..i used to be able to walk up to him scratch him behind the ears and get a big burst of breath out of him then his eyes would close..then i knew he was in heaven..now we have this new one and i have to get to know him and his personality..

i would never want to live on a big mass producing farm..i love getting to know all the animals..i think it is mean the way they so mass produced that they have to use chemicals to make them bigger..i figure they are in such a hurry to get them to the stores that they can't even wait for them to grow..thats sad i think

Hi Jaysin!
The only thing i can recomend you as ex heavy person is, do exercice , eat much green stuff (you know what i mean) less meat, and less coke drink styles.

In the past i was with 135 kg (i dont knowit in pounds so do the maths :p ). In one point of my life when i was 18 years old i decide to get better (my healt was not the best in that moment) , so i change all my life style to get better.
For example i was eating meat 2 times per week and a lot of vegetables , some less fat products (cheese, yougurt etc) fruits etc.
Its take 1 years to reduce 48 kg .... (with help of my nutritionist)
Since that time 14 years ago (do the maths again :P ...) i have 87 to 93 kg (when i was competitions . yep i go the gym 2 times per week now, but in that time was first 3 times and then 5 times when i saw the results ;) ).
Even more i was able to get into some bodybuilder contest, i dont win by the way, but hey! i even think on get so far in that moment.
Talk with your doctor he know the best for you,and make a change in your life, of course you can doit!

You wont like this but if I have to crash down a pound to do what I do in real I eat only one meal a day, I drink water and coffee, and I eat NOTHING white - no bread, potatoes, milk, etc etc.
Works for me but I feel like shit for a few days afterwards.

Very. :(

Lovely reading your story about your ranch. That's the way it SHOULD be. Somehow all the people got fed back when people did it that way...(probably more actually, cos people's diets were more sustainable.)

Briana - Oh! Lol. :D Tell her TJ's is really good, too (though people told me that for years before I finally listened.)

Here you go Clarissa and Ceka, turkey time is coming up and found the address of the place i get our turkey from (well actually, my mom buys it for us because we could never afford a turkey of this price range).

And here is where you should go to read about it: http://heritageturkeyfoundation.org/

What a great thread! A lot of useful info.

I finally moved my exercise bike into my computer room and get on it (at least I try to..) at least once a day.

I also moved my computer screen and keyboard so I have to work standing up at the computer. I find sitting a long time really makes me feel blah after a while. I do have a stool that I can sit on when my feet get tired from the standing but most of the time I'm on my feet and moving around.

As to what to eat, I'm with Dave on the allergies. I found out there are a bunch of foods the make me feel bad, some types of wheat and oatmeal as well as almost any preservative. MSG makes me feel really bad. I never thought of myself as physically sensitive as I'm physically robust and grow muscle well but I react to the mold that is usually on most nuts (especially peanuts)! The fermentation in cheaper wine, and any aged cheese.

So I find my reactions to what I eat my real guide cause I can sure crave what I'm allergic too...I hear that is not uncommon.

Its a drag really cause I love food and the social aspect of it...going out to dinner with friends is one of my fav things to do but I'm really limited now by how I react to foods.

I found the Blood Type diet seemed to explain some but not all of my reactions...anyone else have some experience with it?

I have revised my diet to only fruits, vegetables, eggs, yogurt, water and tea. I'm totally cutting out bread and meat or carbohydrates like pasta.

I would throw some legumes and nuts in there... maybe soy protein powder which you can make into a smoothie... other than that, assuming you're eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, I would think you would be doing fine with that. But yeah, not a doctor (though smarter than your average one :P). I have thought of doing a similar diet myself.

speaking of allergies and stuff..here is a tip for hay fever and outside allergies..
if you can find someone that makes honey from your area it is like a vaccine against the local pollen and whatever else clogs you up..it has to be local..

also i don't think that is mold on the nuts but probably fungus..mold is black and shoots our spores when it is disturbed..mostly found on like drywall and brick that is exposed to a lot of moisture in say a basement or crawlspace....
they are mistaken for each other a lot..
kind of like everyone calls the stuff in their tubs mold ..thats fungus as well ;)
