From: Argent Stonecutter Constructive Solid Geometry. Unlikely to happen, they're more into out-of-world building tools these days. nothing for people who enjoy building... megaprims have to be the top of the list, being able to hollow to 99%, being able to hollow the tetrahedral prim properly, decent triangles which are the size you expect em to be, polyhedra.... doesn't anyone in charge of lindens ever do any building ?

The tetrahedral prim is just a tapered cube.

Regarding From: someone Experience improvements:
• We built a new Secondlife.com, localized for our major markets around the world (with help from many Second Life Residents) and began our effort to enable more of the Second Life experience to be accessible via the web. I visit secondlife.com, excluding these forums, much less than I use to. The new web site doesn't fit properly on my 1024 wide monitor. The blogs are structured in a bizarre way. I'm not sure how to word my objection properly. The advanced search page for Second Life answers isn't just a plain old page, it requires clicking on a link to cause the additional options to appear. It can't be made into a bookmark; you can't just give an url for an advanced search page. The advanced options go away when you search, so you have to keep clicking the more options button . So far as I can tell, you can't search the Knowledge Base anymore. It's mixed in with the wiki in such a way that you can't get just Knowledge Base results. I don't necessarily want to see everything all the users have written. Sometimes I want to see what Linden Lab has to say on a topic. I find the site confusing and unintuitive. There's not anything about the new web site that I cam think of offhand that I prefer or find more useful than the old site.

From: Maelstrom Janus the ability to pay fixed rates in our own currency independent of the value of the dollar and without the need to go through three parties to do it... if they move into the card re-up market (likely via one of the generics) that may be an option... depending on how they set it's trade value when redeemed. I suppose that would be nice in that aspect.. normally I consider those re-up cards to be a plague

I believe these new payment options M alluded to will be offered through Dragonfish 888 - in what form will be interesting. http://www.dragonfishtech.com/dragonfish-signs-major-e-payments-processing-agreement-with-linden-lab%C2%AE-the-creator-of-the-virtual-world-second-life%C2%AE-diversifying-its-business-beyond-the-gaming-industryI started a thread about it a few months back: /327/78/350965/1.html

From: Joshooah Lovenkraft This is really interesting, as M Linden "sets his draw distance 10 years into the future" as well as giving us a glimpse of what is in store for Second Life in 2010: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/features/blog/2010/01/03/happy-new-year-looking-backlooking-aheadThese are just a few things of note that are coming up this year: - viewer 2.0 is coming in Q1 2010 - additional payment options - new "social tools" - The ability to choose either real names or fantasy names in Second Life- Content management and protection tools, including a viewer and seller directory - rebranded and redesigned e-commerce experience, simplified for shoppers and merchants, segmented for play/work, supported by filtered search and giving merchants new tools to manage their product lines and businesses. - A renewed focus on opensource development - more functionality (like HTTP-IN) and new API to the developer community as fuel for new innovative, user-generated content and tools. - allowing content creators to use a much richer language for scripting (C#) that will open up Second Life to a larger community of developers -Extension of our data center and network infrastructure to Europe More details in the offical blog posting above. So what do you think? - viewer 2.0 is coming in Q1 2010 Can I cross a sim border? - additional payment options Doesn't affect me. - new "social tools" Philip Lindens new business. - The ability to choose either real names or fantasy names in Second LifeSo what. Ppl can do that on social websites now. - Content management and protection tools, including a viewer and seller directory - rebranded and redesigned e-commerce experience, simplified for shoppers and merchants, segmented for play/work, supported by filtered search and giving merchants new tools to manage their product lines and businesses. New costs to use xstreet - A renewed focus on opensource development Did you lose interest before? - more functionality (like HTTP-IN) and new API to the developer community as fuel for new innovative, user-generated content and tools. - allowing content creators to use a much richer language for scripting (C#) that will open up Second Life to a larger community of developers Scripters will have a field day with that one. -Extension of our data center and network infrastructure to Europe Well thats a plus for the Europeans

Did you lose interest before? I read this as a little bit of reassurance that it isn't leaving along with Rob. Really, it does look like Merov is hustling to keep the ball rolling.

From: Argent Stonecutter The tetrahedral prim is just a tapered cube. The tapered cube is a pyramid, not a tetrahedron. The tetrahedron is a tapered "prism", which is quite different than the cube (though, technically, it is basically tapered along another axis, but the actual size measurements are different than cubes, too).

From: Argent Stonecutter Regardless, it's already correctly hollowed. yep but at 95% hollowing argent the prism doesnt 'appear' correctly hollowed and Im sure as a more experienced builder than me that youd agree its pretty useless - when hollowed to the current maximum - in any sort of habitational capacity... the point being anyway that new building techniques and features are needed to enhance , improve and advance the experience for sl builders. Not the sort of airy fairy nonsense that lindens are talking about. I have the feeling sociologist wannabes are in charge at lindens rather than technicians and engineers.

It's a strange prim in several ways, but of course they can't really "fix" it now because lots of content uses it (somehow) in its current state. Looking on the bright side, meshes will let us define the shape you want, I think. On the downside, however, it'll still be just a mesh: like sculpties, there's not going to be much a script can do with that prim type. (E.g., if it's hollow, it will stay hollow, unless it's given a different mesh / sculptmap.) I wholeheartedly agree with Argent on this: some kind of constrained CSG using in-world building tools--with corresponding scripted operations--would play to SL's strengths; sculpties and meshes are fun and all, but much more to placate the tribe of Pretty Prim People and refugees of old-school game development, certainly not building as a recreational or social activity.

I must admit I've never wanted to inhabit a tetrahedron. A tesseract, yes, but not a tetrahedron. I really wish LL wouldn't present things like the tetrahedron, pyramid, and cone as if they were separate primitives. Add the hemisphere to that list as well. It makes them seem "weird" instead of just being degenerate cases of other prims.

M has been taking some time to flesh out and respond to comments in his blog post about his 2010 objectives. Whether they are just platitudes or something he will take to heart and make actionable, only time will tell. Worthy reading though, imho.

Yes, M continues to add responses, one quite lengthy. Here's one interesting one: From: M Linden Hi Mitzy. Thank you for making this point: From: Mitzy Shino Possibly LL's biggest mistake is that of saying "We're listening" and then doing what you intended anyway without an adequate and truthful explanation. IMHO you would be far better explaining why your doing what your doing, with complete honesty (except where certain information should be kept confidential).
We can do a much better job communicating with Residents, getting early feedback on our major changes then explaining our rationale when the final decision is made. The last part is particularly important, I think. We listen, take in feedback, decide and communicate but don't necessarily close the loop in a thoughtful way. I am taking this to heart. Thank you. He also made reference to often being dumped in Ahern, in a bush, without hair. Why do I think a bot will show up at ahern with a scanner, ready to take photos?

Right. If by "new social tools," he means the ability to chat with people inside SL without having to log the avatar in world, then I can get behind that.
But he didn't address things like improving the avatar appearance or adding things like new attachment points, but that might come under the 2.0 viewer.
The rest is just feel good fluff, more to impress the press than to actually encourage the users.

Honestly, I'd like to see them seriously clean up JIRA. There are loads of open-source patches already there that haven't been used, and dozens of issues that are at least two-to-three years old. It's frustrating that LL starts all these massive projects, then doesn't follow through on any of them.

From: Oryx Tempel It's frustrating that LL starts all these massive projects, then doesn't follow through on any of them. Like so many companies these days, LL is trying to get by without actually employing very many people. Which is particularly disastrous for the type of business LL is trying to successfully run. ...one Linden assured me recently that they really, truly ARE going to hire someone to work on Search. The way he said it, it was clear that this was a pretty revolutionary move for LL (that is, actually hiring a full-time worker). But clearing up all the stuff in the JIRA that you mentioned, as well as all other unfinished projects, will certainly take more than one new hire.

There are some extremely intelligent and pertinent suggestions for improving both LL's bottom line and our SL experience, in that thread. M deserves credit for reading and responding, but I hope he doesn't just check it off as 'job done' and never let those ideas enter his mind again. As you say, time will tell.

From: Maelstrom Janus lord that sounds complex ...cant I just pay a fixed rate in pounds stirling through pay pal please there's a european office so far all its meant to me is vat.. possibly, some of those services operate web based systems as well. unfortunately I don't think LL is allowed to offer fixed pricing directly, as that would be currency speculation on top of their service, which there may be some rules against either at governmental levels, or at the level of the credit bureaus. it could also hurt them potentially as people would seek to convert whenever another currency lost value, or in bad press as they were accused of "gouging" customers whose currency gained value. From: Joshooah Lovenkraft Void, what's a "re-up card"? I've never heard of it before. Is it like a pre-paid gaming card? yes, same concept as a prepaid minutes card for a cell phone... I can't remember any of the generic cards, but PlayNC is an example of one that covers multiple titles (although all from the same company...). they're sold in point values or time values, and the price is set by the seller.
