One of the sexiest things I can think of is a woman in the tub shaving her legs.

If she is using a lawn mower, she must have some upper body strength.

I'm sure I can simulate that if called into duty; :D

The human race is saddled with all kinds of impulses that were once useful for survival but which, now, create strife. This particular notion stands in the way of an appreciation for the variety and richness possible in how people appear. One day perhaps we'll wake up.

One of the most amusing happened yesterday. I went to a historical sim where you are required to look the part or risk being ejected. I was appropriately dressed. The problem is that in RL history in the place this sim seeks to recreate, Black people would not have been welcomed. So when I entered a diner where everyone was previously chatting and enjoying themselves, all fell silent. I was there for about five minutes looking around before leaving, and not a word was spoken

Reminds me of RL. lol

I expect it was because they were role playing and you threw them OOC.

Tell you what - drop me a LM and I'll go there as a little pallomino pony and see what happens. Then I'll go away and come back as a little black pony and see if it is any different.

You would have to be a typical animal that was on those streets at that time. Don't know if people walked dogs in that city then. Maybe you could be a horse, but someone would have to riding you or at least leading you, and you would have to be the right type of horse with appropriate paraphernalia. Of course, you would not be permitted in the diner. lol

I dont mind answering. My matrilineal line is Jamaican-English (tracing Sephardic bloodlines to Yemeni/Moroccan). My patrilineal(?) grandparents were Italian/English/Dutch and were Hassidic and Reform Jewish. Also in my genetics is a North American First Nation and I ended up being raised by my grandmother for the first four years as my Mum was really making a career and I was a hard baby to love - tempestuous and very scratchy. I grew up in music and arts scene in punk and progressive art.
In me, the Jamaican genes are evident and my "colour" is evidence. But I was blond-haired when I was a kid. I practise my faith privately but am also drawn to High Anglican evensong. My route for a sense of balance is using a sweatlodge or simply aloneness.
That dark Ebony skin was gone long before I was born. The ages of the slave trade took taht away. But I embrace my anglo-saxon genes also. I like being a river with many streams and tributaries.
My only problem are the genetic illnesses that go along with such a mix - so I am now aware that glaucoma may be in my future from my African genes. Since I will not bear children, my mix dies out with me.
I'll just add that being Jewish ofcourse is not delineating a race or citizenship. I could be Inuit and Jewish if the bloodline were such although conversion is frowned upon. I was interested in teh poster stating that peopel who arent ebony but are black - a rainbow of shades - can find suitable skins.

thank you for explaining..I guess i am just curious in nature with such things..i find it interesting ..why i don't know..i guess it's just nice to see the crossing over of nations..well i call them nations anyways..I don't usually like to medal in things like that but my curiosity takes over at times hehehe thanks again :)

Did YOU talk to anyone? Announce yourself? Say hello? Ask questions about what happens there? Ask about joining the group? Did you do anything to dispel the notion you presupposed these people had? Or did you just hang back and expect everyone else to make the effort?

It sounds to me like you visited this place as a test. Perhaps the locals there picked up on that.

Happens to me all the time. But it's because I'm damn good looking, and has nothing to do with race. Reminds me of RL.

Perhaps that was the case.

Some classic sources of black skins which are not just white skins darkened:

CMFF (Chip Midnight): very realistic african-style
Second Skin Labs: excellent photoreal skins
Skin Within: specializes in ethnic skins of all types, painted
Cake: Most skins are model-style, lots of makeup, lots of gloss

And here is mine :)
that's a lovely tone, Brann, and pretty unusual in SL. I think it could be used for American Indian as well, what do you say?

This reminds me of an updated version of this classic from Billy Joel:

I found it interesting that vaccines were shown in both of those.

(Not to get too far off track, but I recall the first year I was married there was a swine flu going around and apparently serious enough that free vaccines were being given in malls. My former husband and I went one evening after he got off work and the lines were incredibly long, even with many stations set up. We finally decided to return the following Wednesday which my husband had off.

However...before Wednesday...it broke on the news that some side effects from the vaccine were being reported, called the Guillain-Barré syndrome. We never took the vaccine.)

I actually think this is an interesting subject and don't think bringing it up is trying to cause a problem. I guess though that lots of people are not ready to have an open discussion on prejudice and race. Even the one step removed discussion about portrayals of different races in SL.

I enjoy spending time with many different people in SL and enjoy having friends with a wide variety of looks. I have friends with different racial characteristics and also friends that have little or no RL reference like animorphic or fantasy avatars. I think the rarest avatars I have seen are ones that portray older humans. I think skins and shapes that realistically portray middle aged or older people are more rare then those that portray different races.

I also have a wide variety of SL looks. I have dealt with prejudice often in my child alt. I have only dealt with it once in my darker skin. Although, It was very shocking to me to be called out for flirting with someone while I was in a darker skin. I had never expected to have rude racial comments directed at me. They had very strong feelings about relations between races and got very nasty over a casual flirty remark. It makes me sad when we can be whoever or whatever we want, but still fall back on some old worn pattern.

Thank goodness I have had far more positive and uplifting experiences then these few bad ones. Being a child in SL helped me get in touch with some lost joy and each avatar I have chosen to wear has brought me new insights about myself and the world. To me that is what makes SL beautiful.

I read this last postingand I agree with Whimsy. It's not common to experience prejudice here. Very uncommon, in fact. But when it does happen it's still a shock. This is NOT a reality, but I do know from comments from decent people in sl directed to Hal and I that the issue of age is less important to them than the issue of colour. Hal presents as definitely older but my colour (light coffee even) can detemine how we are "seen".

I will expand on my opening statement.

After being alive for 40 years, I have come to the conclusion that "western civilisation" (SL) is a white world made in the image of its creators and reflecting their cultural perspectives and prejudices. How else could it be?

"There is a fact: White men consider themselves superior to black men. // There is another fact: Black men want to prove to white men, at all costs, the richness of their thought, the equal value of their intellect." - Frantz Fanon, Black Skin, White Masks

Wow those are some very sweeping statements! I disagree with your quote. In fact I disagree with any thought that assigns a whole race any attributes. I think that considering all blacks.. all whites.. all of anyone to fit in any certain limits is the very basis of prejudice.

You have obviously lived a very different life then I have. It is not up to me to judge your motives. I doesn't sound to me like you have a very open mind on the issue though.

What made you think that? As far as your diner experience...there could be a dozen different reasons why chat stopped. What else did you experience here?

How else could it be? Entirely different!

In all fairness, Mecha's 2 'sweeping statements' were a quote, not necessarily an opinion. I agree with the quote, only to a certain extent, not in a general sort of way, but specifically, there are people out there who believe, just that. White people prove every day by their actions, that they are, or they are not, that way.

Re 'the creators of SL', again in all fairness, the first time I ever saw Phillip Rosedale-Linden, he was a guest on the Paisley Beebe show. He was wearing a full African avatar with beautiful dreadlocks. Not a brown colored caucasian featured avatar, but an avatar that actually looked African. I think I fell in love with him a little at that moment, and my close-mindedness regarding racial issues in SL opened up a little.
