I think for many of us the unique shape is part of what helps us identify with our avatars. I have had to reject animations for my AO that I might otherwise have liked, because they made my hands sink into my hips or had similar issues. It's too bad that not all animations work for all people, but the overwhelming response on this thread so far seems to show we'd rather have our personal shapes and forego some of the animations.

I have a hug and kiss HUD that includes 5 different animations for each avatar for each hug and kiss inside of it. It automatically detects the heights of the avatars involved in the embrace and selects from those 5 animations. The result is really very nice. It's a lot more work for the creator - both creating the additional animations and writing in the additional scripting - but it yields a more immersive result.

oooh, Madhu...*waves* where did you get that HUD?

Would I choose only to be the "Ruth" Shape? Heck no. I have 80+ different forms, ranging in height from Tiny's to a huge dragon. It would make SL worthless to me if everyone had to be one shape for males, and one for females, and everyone was the same height and shape for their gender. May as well scrap the 3D completely and go back to text RP.

Would you change your shape and size if all animations were made for it? If all furniture and vehicles, and houses, and clothes, shoes, hair, were made for it? If you could hold hands or kiss lips? Would it be worth it to be all the same shape? One shape for females and one for males?
If I wanted to look like everyone else in the game... well, I know where to find there.com.

This is one of the most common errors in proportion; too short arms. So if an animation is made for that, somebody with realistic arm length will see this a lot.
It is so common that I think short arms is actually the standard in SL, which makes it a bit of dilemma for an animator. Should s/he support the large customer base, or make something "correct", as per actual human proportions.

*nods* It's partly because of my arm length; partly because both my shapes have wider hips and more body fat than the typical avatar. Lots and lots of female avatars with more realistic, less idealized body shapes have this problem.

*sigh* If I could have remembered the name, I'd have said so in my post, because I knew someone would ask. :) I will look it up when I get in world tonight - expect an IM from Carter. *grins*

This!

I really like the combo of shape/skin/overall look I have and would not change it.

I have 2 other alts. One has the same shape as Czari but slightly different skin (and ears since she's an elf *grins*) and the other is a very petite Japanese AV who looks VERY different from Czari but I enjoy taking her out in Japanese sims every so often. So if I ever want a slightly different "look" I have the alts. The funny thing is, though, I rarely do so. The elven alt has become my backup inventory "mule" (a term from EQ) and the Japanese alt my banker to help keep Czari on a budget. *grins*

Even though many things don't work in a realistic way or don't fit without tweaks, I can't think of anything that would make me change my shape. Aside from my own desire to *look* different.

It's probably LL's next great idea.

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Nope, never changing my shape permanently. I do wear different avatars sometimes, but I always go back to my shape, it's who I am. :)

Considering that most of those things are NOT the right size/shape for my avatar, I guess the answer is "no".

Wow I didn't expect such a resounding 'no' response! I really don't have any underlying purpose for this question. Just curious. Though when you think about it, since there's such opposition to it, the Lindens are sure to implement a 'one shape' policy in the future!

I've made major changes to my shape 3 times in SL:

1st - During my first week in SL [THAT YEAR THAT I CAN'T MENTION WITHOUT A THREAD BEING MADE ABOUT IT TO SLAM ME FOR IT] when i went from 6'11" to 5''6" (but the ruler said 5'10";)

2nd - February 04 when Mistress Midnight and Torrid Midnight fixed my head shape (wow was my head funky shaped) because i could not wear prim hair because of it. Seems i had done some radically weird manipulation of the sliders in a very wrong way.

3rd - February 2008 when I switched from Agent to Prim height to match my RL height of 5'6" (which is still taller than the average woman in the U.S. and around the world surprisingly so).

I am not too keen on changing my shape for ANY REASON - definitely not for prim clothes or for a skin - if the skin does not compliment my shape without my adjusting, i do not use it.).

My shape is me - i will not be changing it unless i want the change to be for the rest of my SL/OpenSim grid existence.

I wondered too. It sounded like the person is designing a game or something.

But I figured if they wanted to tell us they would've so I didn't bother asking. But, yeah.

Let me put it this way... hell NO! SL is the only place I can look this good! I don't get cellulite, I don’t get wrinkles, I don’t get grey and I don’t have to spend an hour putting make-up on and another hour figuring out what to wear... well scratch that last one. :p Seriously though... I spent hours making my shape to resemble sort of how I looked when I was 25 (or how I wished I’d have looked) and like others here, if cloths or an animation don’t “fit” I just don’t wear or use it. I did my avi to please me, not clothing manufactures or pose ball makers.
