Funny how this topic keeps coming back to food...

Delicious, with butter and garlic.

But then, almost everything is, except maybe strawberry jam.

That probably would go by unnoticed. Try sleeping on your boss' desk.

And sleeping with your boss on the boss' desk will not only get you noticed, it will probably also get you promoted!

Could you pawn your bishop if you were low on $L?

Sure, so long as you had the right permissions on it! ;)

Ewww... my boss is like 65, fat, and wears suspenders. Nothing wrong with suspenders, mind you. They just look so wrong on a fat man. Of course, he's also a multimillionaire...

*considers wearing nothing under her skirt tomorrow*

And yet more and more people long for no voilence....

People also long for fast food, cigarettes and booze. People have a tendency to think things are good for them when they aren't.

As Sun Tzu points out; conflict is how we grow, peace leads only to stagnation.

*scraps the fast food and cigarettes*
No need for those (I don't smoke and as my partner is a chef cook, fast food is here a no go).

Only alcohol I drink is some wine :P.

But to your statement.... maybe you are right. But who says that aggression and conflict is the right way? As I surely do not agree that it leads to stagnation, only the available means are used other wise

Sun Tzu's advise is good to note but you have to remember who is saying it. Sun Tzu was a mercenary general. Mercenaries don't make money if there is no war. If he convinced people of the advantages of peace he would be out of a job.

According to the Wikipedia article Sun Tzu "always wanting a peaceful and quiet life" in this light "peace leads only to stagnation" sounds like the 'sour grapes' meme: He is denied living a peaceful life because of his profession and so he disdains peace.

One thing war in the past was good for was moderately increasing the fertility of the soil. These days the fertility gain is useless because of the land mines.

War also reduced the population a lot in the past; thousands of people died in each battle, let alone each war. Now our wars are so technological that very few people (comparatively) die. I know that it's a horrible thing to say, but war WAS good for population control...

Whilst I don't promote wars as a good evolutional tool for human advancement, it is true that if WWII had not happened, 'man' would still not have landed on the moon, computers the likes of todays machines, would not have evolved, flight would still be via propeller driven planes. Anaesthetics and 'modern' surgery techniques would not be where they are today. World economies would not have risen to the levels they are today, forget your mobile (cell) phones, DVD's, LCD/Plasma screens etc... The list goes on.

If history could be 'repeated' I wonder how many of us would give up all these things, to save the millions of lives lost, or would we be more clincial and just say, whats done is done'? The real answer to that, would probably be the greatest promotion to world peace.

Most technology finds it's way to us by way of the military. War is a awful thing, it should only be a final, option. It will never be eradicated as their will always be evil people, who will not abide by the rules of society. All that can be hoped is that use of military power is judisciously, and efficiently with as little collateral damage as possible. Soldiering is it's pure form is an honorable profession.

Never the less, the fact is we have loads of people to spare, so human life is cheap to the point of being almost worthless.

speaking of Gilroy, their Garlic Lovers Cookbook has a recipe for chocolate-covered garlic cloves.
