*small voice*

I had already sent her the snort AND the PeeWee laugh.

I couldn't resist...I love those (I use very sparingly)

*snorts*

I would have definitely figured you for a non-snorter. :D

If you use voice in SL, using a head set with a microphone, you can also trigger gestures by the sound of your voice. These depend on the level/intensity of the sound, and there are 3 levels - low, medium and high.

Yes. That's exactly the script I had trouble implementing. If there's an explanation in the note cards you sent me, thank you in advance. Is there a detailed explanation on line as well? That would be much easier than reading in world.

Thanks so much. :)

Czari,

Bad speller, yes. Snorter, I hope not. ;) I deleted those scripts after using them once in chat. The person just stopped typing. I think they were in shock or something.

I think you can find most of it in the Knowledge Base on the Second Life website - see link I put in my previous post above.

You can create voice gestures in the same way as the other ones - open your inventory and create a new gesture. The only difference is the command you put in the Trigger line.
Just remember that you have to have full permissions on any sound file or animation you want to put in a gesture.

The voice triggers are restricted to just the 3 levels - low, medium and high - and it is just a volume level trigger.

It would be nice if there was specific word recognition - but that is not available.

I also think it can be very easy to overdo them - the low level ones seem enough to me and you do not have to have them all active.

If you look at the video in the SL blog with Cyn Linden, you can see the default voice gestures being used with lip syncing - I thought they were a bit distracting and I made a comment about it - but if you watch it, you will get the idea.

Hi, Hearttau :)

I was referring to Clarissa with my previous post, an attempt at humor since in my mind I see Clarissa as very ladylike.

I guess the old adage different strokes for different folks. *Someone* must think "Hooo!!" is hilarious as it is still widely used. lol

Thank you for bringing up this topic. Very interesting and one I want to explore. I had a conversation/interview with someone recently and their avatar gestured naturally during the conversation while mine just sat in the pose ball position. I'd been wondering how she did that.

I recently started making gestures (on request from some folks who know me and as a way to play around with audacity heh)

I am always looking for ideas for new phrases, would it be ok to use some of the ones mentioned here?

(I do mine is a chipmunkish type voice, ends up kinda cute. Not into making gestures in a big way, but fun as something to break up the day to day other stuff I do)

I have 6 or 7 different ones so far hehe

All gestures are done with my own voice, and audacity, no animations, just text and sound, all original, no sound clips from anywhere, and I only do phrases , names are especially popular, for greeting people, those I do as xfer so folks can share them with their friends, they would buy in packs of how ever many they wanted.

Hi Czari,

No problem. I'm glad that others are finding the topic interesting. I haven't set up the scripts yet myself. Too busy in RL the last few days that when I have SL time I just want to explore, looking for land to settle on ect.

Here's a question way off topic if folks don't mind. I signed up for the Premium $9.95 a month account yesterday. Now am I suppose to recieve a L$ with that or just the 512m of land? The page I read gave me that impression, but I can't seem to find the same info page again.

I'll be stopping by to rummage through your attic any day now Czari. Take care, chat with you soon. :)

You get a weekly stipend payment on Tuesdays. The land entitlement just allows you to hold up to 512 sq metres without paying any tier - I'm afraid you still have to buy the land, you just don't pay any monthly charges for the server hosting. It's like a free allowance of server hosting for premium members.

What was called "First Land" back before I joined SL no longer exists. Now you will receive a 300L/week stipend, generally paid on Tuesdays. You now have to purchase land *but* you can now purchase land on mainland and the first 512 sqm has no monthly tier fees attached. If you purchase 1024 sqm, you only have to pay the tier for 512, etc. That 512 is always deducted from however much land you own.

A chart I have found especially helpful re: land and tier (tier being payments you make to Linden Lab) is here:

http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.php

My attic still doesn't have a "lot" of items in it yet. (Did I ever mention that "procrastinate" is my middle name? Plus just a ton of other things I do in SL.) Would love to have you stop by anytime. The Main Shoppe in Mieville has two floors - the tp to the second floor is on the floor to the right as you enter. (Going to do something to make that more obvious soon.) There is a 3rd floor but that is currently where I am "living."

ETA: Deira beat me ;)

I think it took me about 6 months or so to get a handle on how mainland vs estate; tiers on mainland; the 512 sqm tier (and I haven't mentioned the 10% group bonus yet...that one always makes my head hurt); and how much tier will pay for how much land works, so you're doing well. :)

Muwahaha! I will.

You can deed land to a group. The group can own 10% more land than an individual without getting bumped up to the next tier level. So a group can own, say, 512m2 x 1.10 = 563m2 at the $6 per month tier level.

When a group owns land, the tier has to come from individual members...since a group cannot actually hold money. Only individuals can do that. So imagine the following situation...

You create a private little group. You do that by first making a second account, an "alt". You name the group H.E. Inc, pay the L$100 startup fee, and you log in your alt and have him join too.

Now you go buy a parcel of land. Let's say you find one that's 560m2 (you won't find a 563, since the smallest block of land is 16m2). You buy it for your group. (See the sticky at the top of the forum on how to buy and sell group land).

You also donate 512m2 worth of tier to your group.

Now LL will bill YOU (not your group) every month for that donated tier. But you are, in effect, the owner of a larger piece of land than your tier payment would allow you, if you owned it as an individual.

(Now do you see why Desmond said in another thread that the rules were arcane?) :)

Czari,

No problem! Just let me add a few more that I forgot. Like, "excuse me" and "please leave me alone." I'll send the folder to you later this afternoon.

Chat soon.

P.S.

I sent it through your profile. Sorry, I still have trouble boxing things, so I just dragged and dropped it to you. Will that work? Please forgive me if I missed a chat step or something. ;)

Hi Ingrid,

I sent you the gestures I made myself. It's not Kurt's HUD gestures, you'll have to ask him about those. ;)

At one month old I was still walking into walls.
