That makes sense. Almost everyday I see people leaving in less than a second after arriving. I use the word camping in my keywords but dont offer camping. Is 1 second long enough for a bot to scan the contents of a plot to determine if there are camping seats there?

I would guess yes.

Yesterday I had 217 avatars visit my plot and 9 of them left within 0.9 seconds.

Why didn't your friend write back? This shop could've had the awesomest stuff in SL; but after an IM like that, I wouldn't be able to resist retorting.

Sure, if the bot isn't smart enough to take into account that those messages aren't always reliable on the first try =) Connections with sims do last for a short while after you teleport away, so waiting for the responses may not even really be necessary.

There are all sorts of bots on the grid these days looking for different things, but that one did stick out as a hot button. You might try leaving it out for a few days to see if it changes the activity.


I'd expect that kind of thing as normal for a club-like place (because people may be looking for dots on the minimap before hanging around), but it is a little strange for a shop.

Most places will rez adequately for me in 30-60 seconds, but if *nothing* has rezzed by them I'm not going to stick around, I'll just move on and maybe come back later.

If there's too many dots on the minimap, if the sim is lagging or has stuck pending downloads/uploads, if the store is using vendors, if it's a mall, etc would all just have me tp away as soon as I arrive.

A friend could have sent a tp, I could have used a random landmark as an in-between stop cause tp's were acting up, tp could have gone wrong and I need a relog, etc.

There's far too many reasons, some of which aren't even about the store to obsess about why some who aren't bots don't stick around to even window shop .

I kinda reminds me of when I was reviewing my "freebie malls" folder that I hand out. I went down the list, TPed to each one, and made sure that freebies were still offered.... Then.....

I am against camping, I used to have 3 'camping' chairs set up, they looked lke camping chairs, they smelled like camping chairs but when a camper sits on one they are propelled into orbit and away from my plot. It was more of a statement against the camping groups but after a while I think they black listed me so the only people who would sit on them were poor/nooby potential customers and ejecting your customers into sky at high velocity isnt the wisest business move so I removed them

Well my analogy involves flies and s**t, but yep, thats what they are like. Due to having far too much time on my hands I once created an alt and joined a camping group to see what goes on there. I was getting endless group notifications of empty camping chairs and new campsites that members had discivered, and group chat was constantly going with people bickering over the best paid chairs. It was all so petty and rediculous considering even a full days camping would only ever bring in a couple of USD per avatar.

There are so many people I know who crash upon TP'ing...i would never get upset about someone tp'ing in and leaving. Too bad the person bans them because if they crash just as they tp, they normally come back in a min or two....what a great way to totally destroy a business and a reputation all by himself. That kind of foolishness has no business in business...

I agree completely. There are many places that I TP to and have enough rezzed within a minute for me to determine that I do not need to stay. It is my decision how long I want to stay somewhere and if a merchant wants to ban me because they think I stayed too short of a time, then I don't want anything to do with them anyway.

I haven't been here but a few months, and I've already TP'd to one place that wasn't what it used to be when I first got the LM. It was a strip club, but it was only in the middle of being built so there were no patrons or employees there, ha...

Also, I've bought stuff from places like SLX, and when they give notecards and LMs, sometimes those links are way out of date if the item is old. I tried to visit like a vehicle store, and found myself in the middle of a womens' skin shop. That was interesting.

I once decided that I should go through my old LMs, starting from the oldest and workin' my way to the latest, a project that took a couple of weeks as I was constantly innerupted (THANX JEBUS!) and one tiime landed in a place that I didn't 'member what it had been, but had become a fairly nice lookin' yard, with trees, fountains, chirpy birds n' SUDDENLY BAM! YOU ARE BANNORATED!
