From: Broccoli Curry It's roleplay, it can be whatever you want it to be Thanks. That explains it perfectly. I thought it meant I got to be an Australian Country Western singer who married that nutjob Scientology guy's pasty-white ex-wife. Wait. That's Keith Urban Roleplay. Seriously. Does anyone actually know what dark urban roleplay is? If not, do you know where it is? Maybe I can figure it out if I go there.

From: Bradley Bracken As impressive as I thought Felonhall was I wouldn't want to live there. Too depressing on a regular basis. That's just me, though. In general I think what you described may prove itself to be very popular. It might be feasible if the interior of the apartments wasn't quite as glum as the exterior, maybe a little lighter in color but not perfect. I mean, really, what are we looking at - houses with cracked walls and windows, paint peeling, urine in the stairwells.... but someone that lives there will likely pimp it out with leather furniture, elaborate sex toys, massive electronics... I wouldn't necessarily want to tout it as a BDSM community but it could certainly be a home to one, especially if marketed correctly.

Do not malign the fair of skin, or I may be forced to weep. (I do agree with the 'nutjob' assessment, however.)

Dark Urban Roleplay..I would assume crack den?..ColA?...How much darker do ya want?
Midian/Toxian City? Half those places (to me) have become cartoonish with vampires and demons and angels running around.
I recently have been to Crack den though and the gang owned parcels with graffiti and people actually using their respective places really adds to the realism for me. Also there are on site mods who make sure OOC is kept in IMs..which i REALLY like.
/me throws in her two pence.

From: Trout Recreant Seriously. Does anyone actually know what dark urban roleplay is? I think it has to do with a lawyer interviewing too many secretaries and them ultimately plotting his demise by a skydiving accident. ;P

Not sure it totally fits, but Deadend might be somewhat dark urbanish. And there's definitely RP there...

Its close to midnight and something evils lurking in the dark Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes, Youre paralyzed Chorus cause this is thriller, thriller night And no ones gonna save you from the beast about strike You know its thriller, thriller night Youre fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight You hear the door slam and realize theres nowhere left to run You feel the cold hand and wonder if youll ever see the sun You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination But all the while you hear the creature creepin up behind Youre out of time...... and thats as far as i go w/o backup breakdancing zombies

From: Colette Meiji Don't forget the Vincent Price bit! Darkness falls across the land The midnight hour is close at hand Creatures crawl in search of blood To terrorize yawl's neighborhood And whosoever shall be found Without the soul for getting down Must stand and face the hounds of hell And rot inside a corpse's shell The foulest stench is in the air The funk of forty thousand years And grizzly ghouls from every tomb Are closing in to seal your doom And though you fight to stay alive Your body starts to shiver For no mere mortal can resist The evil of the thriller

No more posts from the OP. I wonder if he has abandonned this thread.
Or perhaps it's hard to type in the dark.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=hMnk7lh9M3ohttp://youtube.com/watch?v=hMnk7lh9M3oThis one is even better - it has the word's worst transvestite and the lead zombie wipes his nose with his hand in the beginning. Prison in the Phillipines ROCKS. I want to be a criminal there!

Other than the thinning hair, I think the transvestite held her own, and her tube top, very well.

From: Chris Norse I don't know Trout, that Indian version does give hope to all us fat old guys who want to wear leather. I rather thought it was more of a warning to old fat guys NOT to wear leather. I wonder what the balding transvestite did to land in jail. I wonder where the zombie wiped his hand after he wiped his nose. I wonder why I wonder that. Actually, those prison shows on the Discovery Channel fascinate me - they always talk to some guy in a tiny concrete room who completely and matter-of-factly says something like, "Yeah, I'm here because I killed my mom with a pickaxe." Just like it's no biggie. Meh.. Pickaxe...whatever...she pissed me off...*shrugs*. Then he gets furious when he talks about how his toilet is in his cell and he doesn't have a separate bathroom in there for privacy. I feel like I'm getting some insight into an alien species whose minds are constructed very differently than most human minds.

What struck me was how in the Filipino prison, they all looked pretty much the same, kinda scrawny. Not the roided out freaks you would see in the yard in an American joint. I mean, I would look like a roided out freak in that Filipino prison.

That's because instead of spending all their time in the yard lifting weights and stabbing each other with sharpened toofbrushes they're putting together musical reprisals of Michael Jackson songs. Every Christmas, they do the Nutcracker, and their rendition of "The Music Man" got national acclaim.* *I completely made that up.

*I completely made that up. The Nutcracker is exceedingly popular. As is Grease.

This whole thread is highly amusing lol Anyway, to clear up ... Dark: usually something with an edge, goth often, horror elements, the potential of death and harm, threatening. Settings that are trashed, run down, or just old, and almost always with lots of black grey and dark brown. But there are endless interpretations of it. Urban: in a city, almost always modern or some close approximation. Even though the comment was meant in humor, the person who said "it's roleplay, that means it's whatever you want it to be" is in fact fairly correct. The point of roleplay (I'd like to believe, at any rate ) is to be given a few creative prompts (like the setting/theme) and use that as a starting point for your own creative stories. So really, you don't want the 'theme' to be too constrictive, or else you're not gonna get very many people that want to play.
