i'd venture to guess that 65%+ of the SL population has a few screws loose

According to Philip Linden, 35% of the SL population are female. According to 3 Ring, 65% of the SL population are sociopaths. Interesting how it equals 100% I wonder which gender dominates the 65%? ;) :D

100% of the women plus whatever percentage of men are actually being played by women.

Women in SL all psychos?

/me tackles Trout to the ground and ties him up like a calf, drags him to her hidden room behind the floor-to-ceiling bookcase, and props him up against the wall - which is covered in newspaper clippings on great fishing spots for trout.

Her eyes take on a reddish glow from the one light bulb hanging low.

Certainly not you! You're perfectly normal, the picture of mental health.

(I think I'll call you "Exhibit A" from now on.)

well had two owners i did work for on sl that become this.........The worse case being he have lost all common sence toally fall out of the human race. Seems like what a he just went crazy and hurt everyone and broke ever part of a very healthy and business we had going. It was sad, because everyone work so hard building and creating a wonderful and social setting on sl. So people just don`t can`t handle pressure and or can`t contol their role play.....

I'm glad you mentioned this. I was getting bamfoozled (permission granted for Claire to add that to her dictionary *grins) about all this class talk.

/waves from the US middle class

yey! another word i can use instead of confuzzled - im getting tired of that one. Thankyou oh knowledgebly one. ;)

Im not even going to attempt to reply on topic, I would just end up getting all het up over some of the comments and giggling at some of the others. Some of the talk is very personal to me, and I dont really want to get involved without going all spiritual nutcase on you lol.

In Real Life, women who are too quick to jump into bed are called sluts, or easy, or loose, or Hos, often by other women to discourage this behavior, possibly out of concern over the ultimate fidelity of their RL partner. Rarely less judgmental terms will be used like "Free-spirit".

Online, women who are too quick to jump into bed are called men. While surely some are, I think the real motivation of women being quick to call attention to this is the same as the reason they are quick to call women "sluts" or "loose" in Real Life.

It certainly would never be possible in a world where pregnancy and disease isn't an issue, people might be more willing to try sex with relative strangers.

I guess the summer of love never really happened.

Heehee :) Trout's 'Free Spirit' ratings...

Maybe I'm a little naive when it comes to these things, but I just can't believe there are that many men out there pretending to be women. I'm sure it must happen - just not as often as people think. I guess we'll never really know for sure.

I am sure they are a fair number. Though probably less than many would claim.

I was just pointing out what I see as an extension of a RL behavioral trait - Women quick to judge other women they see as being too easy or promiscuous.

Which has carried over into an online world.

Its a competitive trait. I know some women who in fact DO sometimes sleep with men the night they meet them in REAL LIFE who will be quick to call other women "skanks" and "sluts" for being too quick to jump into bed.

Online its more effective to use the "they must be men" approach so you see that often.

Certainly in the minds of some (if not many) there is a battle of the sexes... but I an not wanting to take that road, nor get caught up in any debate.

We can (honestly) say that basic HUMAN nature is survival and self preservation. We live in a society where those basic instincts are provided for the most part. Yet we still feel the need to preserve our self existence in the face of this. It stands to reason this instinct carries over into our inter-personal relationships in the form of 'fear of rejection'.

The need to procreate and fill the Earth with little versions of ourselves is innate, a part of our core being. One tactic we ALL use to perpetuate this self preservation is deception.
Lets be 'honest' with ourselves, we all lie, some to more of a degree than others, but we all lie.

My question to you is why not accept the fact, and move on with our lives, instead of being thought police?

i am sure someone here would take issue to what i am saying, someone always does.

From my experiences online chatting over 10 years...

-------------------

Often women lie about their weight and their age.

Many tend to exaggerate how good their marriage is.

-----------------------------

Often men lie about their marital status or how bad their marriage is.

And for some reason, nearly every man claims to be 8 inches - even the ones who had no reason at all to give you that information.

I am married, my marriage is rather average, (I am not happy with it though) and I never really measured my 'member', nor even compared it to other men's members, but I would say it is 'probably of average length.

I hope that is honest enough for some (but surely not all).

Obviously there are lots of exceptions - but when they finally get around to putting an FDA black-box warning on SL, it will almost certainly include something like: "Persons you meet in this setting may, and probably do bear very little actual resemblance to their outward appearance. You should be aware that emotional vulnerabilities can be easily manipulated by persons who are skilled in projecting certain attributes which you may find attractive. Caveat subscriber."

I didn't take that to imply that we should all be suspicious of each other. I certainly seems to me to be good advice to anyone who is a bit innocent and vulnerable.
We don't really know who or what we are dealing with. Most of us will probably pick up vibes and deal with them in our own ways.
Some people seem ready to enter very quickly into sexually-charged online relationships. I think that this is not a wise thing to do.

I find the element of doubt very handy and I use it as a defence.
If I'm hassled by either male or female avatars for pixel sex and polite refusals don't work, then I tell them that I'm a guy in RL. Then maybe they stop and think a bit and check my RL in profile - and then they would find that cartoon which should increase feelings of doubt. Even if doubt/insecurity doesn't stop them, then at least the cartoon is an indication that I'm not likely to be impressed by the "material/physical" aspects of other avatars (other than as 3D graphic design work).

I think that a lot of this is very true. I spent a lot of time in chat rooms for some time before I met my husband. Not everyone falls under this generalization, of course, but there are many who do.

(um, the 8" thing is very true for a lot of men, also. I never understood that one either. IM's used to start off a lot of times with things like "Do you think 8" is big?". The ones that started that stupidly never got answered by me. They were immediately put on ignore)
