It's not gonna work. Here's why: Poster A: Makes a statement. Poster B: God, what an idiot. That's wrong and Against The Will of God and unAmerican. I will say so at once! Now...in Poster B's place, would you say, "Oh...but there's a flame thread for that. I shall go there and write, "Poster A is a dumbass".? No...you would immediately hit the Reply button in the offending thread and say "Poster A is a dumbass" right there and then. I do it, you do it, we all do it. It's human nature. Law of the Web. Something like that. IBTL. You forgot about poster C who points out that poster B is actually a "C". And then poster D (who is a close friend of B and always agrees with whatver she says) comes in to mindlessly disagree with poster C. |

There is this great brand new feature on message boards called ignore. Works wonders when you don't want to read someone's posts. I find it works much better than starting your own flaming thread that only encourages the very behavior you are complaining about. I'm going to second this. It's really a great feature. Of course, since I'm already on every one's ignore list, no one will see my post. _____________________

But yes: though a separate thread for the one-upmanship would be great, Lindal is quite correct about the unlikelihood of combatants choosing to leave the Field of Combat for some other thread. And they certainly wouldn't do so for a thread with a title that belittles the Battle. The title must NOT imply that what they are doing is less than Glorious and Right and Good. So if this idea is to have any hope of succeeding, the thread must have a title that flatters the vanity of the combatants. Something like "Thread For Showing You and Everyone Else Once And For All What An Idiot You Are." That one might just take off. |
