Isn't there like a newbie "cool spots" HUD available at NCI? I expect it wouldn't take much to replace its LMs with Bay City attractions. Perhaps we could find out who made that HUD and ask them about it.

ETA: On the other hand, perhaps it would be prudent to wait until all of Bay City is bought and built. You wouldn't want to release a HUD with some sites on it, only to have the REALLY cool stuff get built afterwards and not end up on the HUD.

I tink most of it is at least sold now, an some spaces are really shaping up. You might be right on waiting a little bit, but still would be good to move in that kinda direction. The hard part, I tink, is gonna be determining what is "cool." A toy store? A gesture shop? A diner or two? 7 Seas fishin? A club? All places I know of in Bay City owned by forum regulars, but that distinction might be lost on some who dun normally hang out here. Seems like something more general might be better, I dunno.

I would, however, definitely include Cubey Terra's store in Bay City. Really nicely done, and very much in theme. You see, dis is how I hoped Bay City would look like from the beginning:

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=283034

And while my store is not nearly as fanciful, it is still in theme an I tink will fit in well with them "theme." Maybe better than others in my general area. ;-)

I've been around Bay City a lot, but even I get turned around sometimes. I'm sure such a thign is possible, but I'm not sure if I'm all that good at building it.

Hmn.. I sense a project comin' on.

Mari
(Who also still wishes there was a specific Bay CIty board out there, but definitely would not have a clue to set one up)

Don't forget to include the store that sells official Bay City plywood box souvenir prims.

I'm not sure where it is, exactly. That place needs street signs. After all, it is a city.

I can't see how people get snarley about a few apostrophes.

New forum rule! Everyone must talk like Commander Data!

I think there is a high probability of this tactic not working. For example, if you look at the "please ignore and let this die" discussion, the forum regulars clearly went against the desires of the original poster, and have turned it into a long-running free-for-all-discussion. Likewise, at Wolf 359, in spite of Starfleet regulations requiring com channels to remain on only priority topics, it was clear that many senior members of Starfleet....

Oh yes. Complete with official marking on them, I saw those.

Did't get one. But I saw it. :-)

I have a small plot over in Moosehead. I have been thinking about creating a gift / souvenir shop. Selling funny things like "I Survived Bay City" t-shirts and mugs, keyrings, hats etc. Perhaps even some postcards with bay city skyline and other city views.

This is just an idea atm. I am even tossing around putting all the souvenirs in a vendor. Then everyone can have a souvenir vendor on their plot.

I am certainly not going to charge for these souvenirs, I just think a gift shop would be a fun addition to Bay City

Unfortunately My in-world time is limited. In the mean time I have plopped a satellite store there. Even that building is out of theme IMO, so I have some work to do...
.

If anyone has any other souvenir ideas, please pass them on and i will add them to my ever-growing list.

My friend who got several lots in different parts of Bay City has been doing micro tiny sims build/roleplay I am renting about 30 prims for 1L each but since I am the builder and texture artist and only renter he charged 3L for the month.
Only problem is I keep getting my builds returned which is slightly annoying but I deeded them to group so that happening less.
Nothing really stays for long. It would be nice to have more tiny rp in Thirdlifeville

Ya know, I've thought about do someting like dat too. I know I'm doing a souviner shirt for my store with it's (hoped to be iconic) neon sign. I'd love to work up a couple designs for souviners, though. I miss the cool, tacky souviner stand in Tableau.

In fact... I call dibs on doin' the snowglobe. ;-)

...I might have a grand opening party of some type at my store in Bay City - Imaginario dis weekend. Construction is nearly complete!
I also plan on having a Grand Opening of my satellite store in Bay City when it's done - which *won't* be this weekend since I have been getting distracted by making Father's Day stuff and obviously don't build as fast as Marianne ;)

I am also making a new lines of cards which will preview in this store. So it will be at least another week...

Sounds like there could be a few Bay City parties to come?

:)

It's a great idea Marianne.

The landscape is certainly shaping up in Bay City. I'm over in Moloch, but don't have anything actually "open" as yet.

I'm cheatin too, kinda. The real build is offsite and will be moved in within a day or two (it''s complete aside from a couple minor details), the construction site is jes because I hadda put *someting*, an it's been fun to sorta build it up as if it was real construction. Kinda educational too, cuz there's a lot of things I did't really know of.

Ya, there's some parts of town I really like. Cubey Terra's place, for one. Barnesworth Anubis' big skyscraper. Lexxi's diners an stuff. That block of buildings dat I can't recall the name of. Makes me wish I was over in those places, instead of behind the ugliest building in all of Bay City. Why do I always get the "fun" neighbors? ;-)

As to a visitor's center sort of thing...

I know of two landholders in Bay City who are at least interested in hosting such a thing. I'm starting to look at possible building styles (deco/streamline/moderne sorta look) for such a place.

I thought of someting else dat would really fit in, particularly up around the waterfront. A drive-in. Not dat I mind the Bayjou, but wouldn't dat be cool for those who wanna drive somewheres?

Mari

EDIT: Here's some handy weblinks dat could be useful f'r stuff in Bay City. I did my place a bit more modern (1950s) than these (1930s-40s), but might be useful f'r others.

Ooo, I have to find that store...anyone know the specific location please?

Mari - I think your idea of some kind of a Visitor's Bureau or an information desk, etc. is fantastic! I've strolled around several of the Bay City sims but am geographically-challenged, so I would LOVE something like that. I'm thinking of some RL cities I've been to that have "walking tour" maps with directions and places of interest along the way.

As per your speech - love it! Fits you perfectly.

It might be hard to manage on some levels -- stores can change hands purty quickly. But even if it jes hits the highlights an main (mole made) landmarks, it would be someting. I have started to tinker with structures, tryin to get a good Deco or Streamline look without using a bajillion prims.

BTW, an I seeing things, or is there only one place still for auction in all of Bay City?

My store will likely open tomorrow evening, barring SL outages an stuff. It's still a construction site down there, but it's getting real close to done now, an stock is on palettes in the building. ;-)

Look for a complete place friday, after 8 PM SLT. :-D

Soon as I finish getting my child av finished for SL5B, I'll get my building inspector outfit together, Mari. :-)

Seriously, though, I was thinking of something along the lines of your original post. I think it would be cool to have a guide to the best (thematic and otherwise) builds in Bay City.

Sadly, I don't own any land there since I'm one of those pesky freebie account holders that clutters up the grid on weekends.

Now that could be interesting, too. Some sort of expectation of "theme compliance" to be listed. I can tink of a few good ones!

She passed the erosion control inspection with full, established ground cover so I'd be surprised if she had probs with the structure. In fact, for all the construction going on in BC, there's remarkably little to no ground disturbance. I'm starting to wonder about that place...

My site had full inspection done throughout the build, including regular soil checks, concrete slump tests and cylinder breaks (though I dun tink it's had its 28 day breaks yet), framing and masonry inspection. Jes waiting on the final affidavit to go to the city.
